Would you capitalize diplegic cerebral palsy in a sentence? - Unsure

Posted: Nov 11, 2009

I have a client that is telling me that certain things should be capitalized in sentences that I have never capitilized before and I have been doing this for years. Now I am questioning everything that I do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

No capitals needed...sm - babs

unless the disease is named after/for a person...Bell's palsy, diplegic cerebral palsy. Diplegic means only affecting the legs. There is no reason to capitalize this disorder.

Thanks, that is what I thought. - Unsure

That is what I thought too and that is the way I have been doing it for years, but as I stated I am questioning everything I do now. I may be posting some more later for clarification, if you happen to be on and don't mind assuring me. Thanks so much again.

Not a problem..sm :) - babs

S/l "Yeoman's 7th Cranial Nerve Palsy."
Oct 21, 2009

I have a doc who sounds like he is saying "YEOMAN'S 7th cranial nerve palsy."  He has used it before.  I cannot figure it out or find it (all I come up with is Bell's, and that is not what he is saying) and it has never been corrected on feedback, so apparently the editors don't know it, either.  He has a strong middle eastern accent so this may be throwing me off.  Any suggestions  would be much appreciated.  Thank you. ...

When do you capitalize departments?  I have been in the biz for 10 years, and my current QA staff is giving me conflicting feedback on my capitalization.  One QA manager is giving me errors for not capitalizing, the other is giving me errors when I do!  I was always taught that you didn't capitalize the department unless it was preceded by the proper name of the hospital (XYZ Hospital Emergency Department, etc). Also, as far as specialties, how do you handle those?  For ...
