Post contrast or Postcontrast - MsKeyboard

Posted: Feb 09, 2012

I get a lot of "CT Head pre and post contrast" as the name of study.  I've seen it both ways.  Does anyone know which is the officially correct version, "Precontrast" "Postcontrast"      or space in between pre and post?

Thx!

Only preop and postop were 1 word, all other pre and post were 2 words, so pre contrast would be 2 words.

That is what my QA person told me.

Then you need to get another QA person. - CMT/QA

"Pre" and "post" are merely prefixes. They are not stand-alone words, ever.

Lord knows how else she has led you astray.

that is exactly what I told her - sm

and she said the meaning is before and after, so if you said after dinner, it would be 2 words, therefore post dinner is 2 words.

Then I gave the example of hypo and hyper and they are prefixes also and do not stand alone.

She told me pre and post are in Book of Style that way and I have yet to find it, but maybe she is looking in a different one than me.

Anyway, that is what I was told. Go figure I work for MModal (MQ) and I get bad feedback. Would ya expect anything else?

tell her to check out page 134 (6.5.8) in the BOS 3rd edition - pretty simply explains that she is incorrect.

my preference - sm

I favor: pre- and post-contrast.
Grammatically, this is the correct way to do it. Of course, this does not trump account specifics/QA for your account.

In my book, (and every other book besides the BOS) pre and post are not stand-alone words, but rather prefixes, which are attached to the word directly (i.e. precontrast), or with hyphens (as above).

You are CORRECT! - BOS3STINKS

The patient is postpartum.

Clearly, it is one word and sans hyphen.

The patient had a post-contrast CT scan.

Hyphenation needed.

This follows the same rules as "followup" versus "follow-up."

?? Contrast T1
Jan 13, 2011

Hello! :) I'm working on a radiology report, and the sentence in question is this: "TECHNICAL FACTORS: Sagittal T1, axial FLAIR, PD and T2, as well as (brief) contrast T1." My question is the word in parentheses. The Dr.  barely enunciates the word in question. The best I can make out sounds like either "free" or "brief." Does anyone know a word that would make sense combined with contrast T1?  Thanks in advance! ~Lotte  ...

How Would You Contrast MT And Coding?
May 02, 2011

What illustration might you use to contrast the difference between transcription and coding? They both are the medical field, they both involve patient documentation; yet, they are very different jobs. I am only an MT at the moment, but I have been following coding forums for quite a long time. This subject has come up recently about MTs also performing coding duties. I think it is ridiculous, but I want to hear from those of you who have done both, or even from you who have been an MT and now ...

I've always wondered (and can never find the correct answer) what do you all use in these cases - precontrast/pre contrast, postcontrast/post contrast, well maintained, etc.  I've been told both ways by fellow MT's and would like your input.  I think everyone does it differently. ?? ...

From The Post Below, About MTs
Aug 17, 2012

http://hdstoday.com/?tag=mmodal Below are highlights of the news article In light of the One Equity Partners purchase of M*Modal, I predicted that within the next 12 to 18 months we may see OEP turn around and sell off M*Modal’s speech recognition technology to the likes of Microsoft, especially if Apple spends some of its cache of cash on Nuance. A $12 billion buyout of Nuance by Apple would dwarf the $1.2 billion M*Modal acquisition, and it would also put control of a huge chunk o ...

Saw A Post And Can't Find It Now About
Feb 17, 2010

I know exactly the company you are talking about and have wondered the same thing. The person who wrote the rules must not have a full understanding of the VR program. At this company, we are supposed to adhere to the account specifics to a T if we type on the account, but if we get a VR job on that same account we are supposed to ignore the account specifics and leave it as VR puts it unless there are blatant errors. That makes NO SENSE. Why not train VR correctly in the first place so the repo ...
