Please Help! What is the username for Editscript? - Anon

Posted: Feb 25, 2012

My work PC crashed and I am trying to contact supervisors, but the email bounces back and my supervisor is off today and not returning my calls. I just need to know what the username is in Escription. I thought it was first name.last name, but that is not working. Can anyone help? I need to get the number for technical support, so if anyone can help me and just give me that, I would appreciate it. Thanks. I'm trying to download editscript on my home PC.

first, you have to - sm

put in your institution name on the ES website, then it will pop up a username/pwd box (which is the same as you use when you log into the actual program. Hope that helps a little.

My brain is much from crying so much SM - op

I can't for the life of me remember my username. I know my password because I enter it every day, but I can't think what the username is....Thanks for trying.

sorry I couldn't help more - sm

The usernames are different for each facility/company using that platform. Since your company is not getting back to you, maybe see if you scribbled it in your notes somewhere? Wish I could help more. Perhaps if you posted the company name you work for someone could give you the naming scheme?

Next time, write critical information down - sm

Crying does not help in any way. When you allow yourself to become upset, you cannot think clearly. Go do something else and think about something else for a while. Then maybe you will remember.

You should be writing this kind of information down instead of expecting to remember. Write the phone numbers down, too.
You may mean well, but - sm

that really doesn't help her right at the moment. Have a little compassion.
I thought her response was - exactly what was needed

The OP needs to pull herself together and do something to control her emotions. If she falls apart over something this minor, what would a real emergency do to her?
What about that response did NOT help her? - sm

Did you actually read her response? What about it didn't help her?

Someone already told her one thing to do. She still cannot remember her username or find the phone number for support. She is crying and too upset to remember.

The suggestion was to go do something else to calm down. That helps to clear the mind so you have a chance of remembering. The next suggestion was to start writing down necessary information.

What about that did you feel was not helpful? I really want to know, because I do a lot of tech support and most people find that exact respons VERY useful.

Some people are told not to write down passwords and usernames. Others don't realize that you will forget your username if you let your computer supply it for you. Many more are unaware that upset will lock up your brain faster than anything, and once it happens they don't know how to unlock it again.

There is a difference between sympathy and assistance. You seem to think she should have withheld the assistance and just given sympathy. I disagree because the advice WAS something helpful and necessary. Offering only sympathy when she clearly saw the root of the problem and how to fix it would have been catty -- exactly the kind of response a girlfriends clique would give while snickering behind her back.

I second the advice. Get a small journal book and write down everything you need to remember. There is nothing wrong with that if you store it away from your computer.

As each facility/institution has a different way of setting up their passwords, I really can't help there; however, I did want to tell you not to beat yourself up too badly over this. I had ALL of my user names and passwords in a notepad document (eScription, another platform on which I work, Ebay, various forums, EIN number, etc), and a lot of my extended family members' phone numbers. It was so convenient to pull up for whatever I needed...Until my computer crashed.

When my new computer arrived and I went to log in to work, I realized I hadn't written these numbers down anywhere else (major OOPS). I was mortified when I had to call my manager(s) and request my own user name. I had the password memorized because, like you, I used it every day, but the user name was auto-populated and, after a couple of years, I had ceased looking at it long before.

One of my managers passed along a great idea, which was to email myself to my personal email a copy of the notepad document anytime I made a revision or addition to it, so I'd be able to look it up from any PC just by accessing my email.

Like I said, don't beat yourself up too badly. We've all done goofy, embarrassing things like this and, if we haven't, we eventually will!

Your manager's idea is dreadful! - Privacy and Security Training

That sounds like a great idea, but there are several things sriously wrong with it.

One of the prime rules is never to store passwords in a computer document and never email them unencrypted.

First, if you download your email to your computer, it might not be retained on the server. When you lose the computer, you will still lose the email containing the passwords.

Second, when your computer died, how did you dispose of it? Did you remove the hard drive and destroy it? The fact that a computer no longer works does not mean the drive is gone. It can still be accessed and information retrieved, and people actually do that for a living. Unless you employ special techniques, even deleted documents are still there. Even written over documents may still be there.

Third, email is absolutely not secure in any way. Anything transmitted over the internet and not encrypted using certain standards is very easy to access if you know how. Email sitting in google, yahoo, and similar accounts on the net are easy pickings for snoops. How do you think the people who are screening for te***rist communicatins do it? It is easy enough to look at everything going through a gateway or into a server.

If you worked for the federal government, what your manager suggested would be a security violation. That is how bad it is. By keeping a ducument on your computer containing passwords, you leave yourself open to spy software that seeks out that information. Emailing it to yourself makes getting hold of it even easier.

That suggestion compromised your company's server. If your company has any federal contracts, it violated the terms. It also left you open to a HIPAA violation that would destroy you financially and put your employer out of business.

You should change every one of your passwords immediately. Do not store them on your computer or email them. Do not even create a document to print. There is software that well encrypt them, but that might not be safe either.

Just write them in a notebook and keep it safe away from your computer. Learn how to create a "strong password" and change them regularly. Never use any word that is in a dictionary in any language, never use only letters or numbers, never use birthdates or names of family or pets or hobbies. Never keep using a password that was assigned by a computer when you reset it. Never write them on notes kept near the computer.

Use both upper and lowercase letters, numerals, and special caracters like #$%!. Both upper and lower case always.

Poor passwords . . . hello, student, password, letmein, peace, susan, macrame.

Still poor passwords . . . password1, Susan, 3dogs.

OK passwords . . . Id12!mtw#5 (I drive 12 miles to work # 5)

not so - anonyn

The email idea is right on. You can access your email from any computer as long as it is one that can be accessed that way (not outlook express). But, I have all my passwords, user names written down. There is no way I could remember all of them. I have 10 different accounts, 3 different computers. Just put the book or (I use a rolodex, which is easy to flip through) away from the computer or in a locked drawer when not in use.

Any Difference In EditScript MT 9 And EditScript MT 9.12?
Dec 29, 2011

Does anyone know if there is any difference in EditScript MT 9 and EditScript MT 9.12?  If there is, how can we update this? It seems that my new place of employments line counting is not the same as my old place of employment.  New employer has EditScript 9, while my old work had EditScript 9.12, and my line count was much more at my previous employer.  Now it seems I can put out tons of work and see not much for lines...  Very frustrating. I am going to be going to ES VR.  I have been working on Dictaphone Extext straight typing and a little VR.  I did not find VR in Dictaphone to be good.  I have done ES before, and I believe it is better.  Considering the chump change we make to do VR, do you think you are paid enough to proof your work after you have edited the report, or do you do a once over and go on to the next one?  I mean, really, with what we make, we really have to do a once over to make anythi ...

Epic/Editscript
Dec 04, 2011

The hospital I work for changed over the Editscript last year.  Changeover went relatively smoothly, and we still had plenty of work to keep all the transcriptionists busy (after we stopped outsourcing the overflow we used to have).  Recently, the hospital switched to Epic electronic medical record system, and within a week the transcription workload plumeted to probably 40% of our former workload --not enough to keep our transcription staff busy.  It seems the doctors/nurses/etc ...
