Hello,
I am becoming disenchanted with the medical transcription profession and how it has become less lucrative (although some may disagree).
I wanted to look into medical coding as an alternative at-home (remote) or in-office job. I was hoping someone could recommend a few good websites that discuss the profession, how to prepare for it, how long training typically takes before you can "launch yourself", how lucrative it could be if you really apply yourself, and so on.

I simply do not have the money for steds, nor do I want to give them my business. I'm wondering if anyone found or uses a different medical word spelllcheck program, and do you like it, is it helpful or accurate? Thanks much. ...
Hi all
Can someone recommend me a good program to get for microsoft word 2010 that will allow Word to check the spelling of medical words? Any help is appreciated, thanks ...
I always had this through work, and now I need to buy my own. Are you allowed to borrow, or people share a license? I don't know how this works, I've never done it.
Is there another program similar to it, maybe a bit less in price?
I definitely do NOT want to spend $100 on it, let alone have to pay to renew any licensing or get upgrades every year. I'd really like to buy it once and be done with it, is that possible?
What happens if you ...
Can anybody recommend a good set of headphones, over the ear style? I do have a slight hearing impairment and really need a good set. Thank you in advance for the suggestions. ...
I often transcribe while nursing and my baby keeps breaking my headphones by tugging on the cord very hard. I'm thinking cordless headphones are the way to go so he has nothing to grab on to. Can any of you recommend a good brand of cordless headphones? Thanks! ...
We are going to start a small business (nothing to do with MT) and eventually have employees. I am completely fuddle-headed with math functions, even simple addition and subtraction.
I was thinking about a small bookkeeping class at a local tech school, or possibly an on-line course. I hate to put a lot of money into a class for any type of degree or certificate, with a lot of things to learn that I don't really need or want.
I would like to find a simple (... For Dummies) accounti ...
Can anyone recommend a good digital voice recorder for the office I work in? We are still using tapes and it drives me crazy. They are looking into switching to a digital recorder and I need suggestions for a good one.

I was trained as a Medical Transcriptionist at a two-year college from 1990 to 1992. I worked at a hospital for a couple of years doing radiology, non-invasive cardiology, and neurology transcription, then I got married and moved. Soon thereafter, I started work at a mental health clinic as a Medical Transcriptionist with 12 other transcriptionists. This was in late 1993 and I am still there as of right now. The 12 transcriptionists have either left or been laid off over ...
is it 100% VR all the time? It seems that way from their ads. Is the VR system decent?? I see the required LPH for VR is 250. I know a VR system I have worked on was decent but not the best so just curious. For instance, I'd still have to number things b/c they would come in paragraph format and that takes a bunch of time. ...
Healthcare for profit has got to go.
How many of us have typed reports indicating a patient was refused treatment/medication/procedures/etc., due to their insurance not covering it?
This is BS of the highest kind. I hate being a cog in this wheel anymore. ...
I got an email from them asking if I was still interest in part-time work. Funny thing is, I don't remember applying to them. But then again, I applied to so many places, I just can't recall them specifically. ...

I recently got a new computer & have had quite a time getting all my transcription software transferred over; the only thing I am unable to transfer is my medical spellcheck. I have used Stedmann's for sometime now but went on their site and it is $100 to purchase it. The version I have on a disc is not supported by Vista :( Does anyone know of any other good medical spell checkers out there that are free?? ...
I know this has been discussed in the past, but my search did not bring up any current threads so I'm asking again, just in case anything has changed, etc., since the old posts.
I am looking for a good medical dictionary/spell checker. What is your preference?
THANKS!! ...
I miss the lively atmosphere of a transcription room filled with other transcriptionists, with doctors strolling in and out, joking, grabbing from the tray of homemade goodies someone had brought in to share. I miss the laughing and sharing of stories or the mutual griping about the doctors' dictations. I miss the holiday pot luck dinners and decorations and bonuses. I miss the formal dictating style that doctors used to go by. I miss having a job that was in demand ...
