autocorrect and Instant text - MT

Hello,

Can anyone tell me how to convert the glo file in Instant Text to autocorrect? I have asked for help from Instant Text with no response. I do not want to/can't afford with the wages today to upgrade, and quite frankly getting sick and tired of what appears to be constant glitches in programs (which IMO are on purpose) to more or less force people into buying newer and better versions. As an MT, I am already in the poor house. When I bought it years ago, I was told "works with ANY windows" Now from what I am understanding on forums, I have to buy version 7 of IT for Windows 7. I have been on Windows 7 now for over a year but until just this week I didn't have the problem of ES not staying linked. Each time I hit enter while in ES/Word, I have to go out and relink IT back to ES, which could be anywhere from 5-20 times during each report :( I appreciate any help. Thank you.

I don't think you can convert an IT glossary over to autocorrect in Word. Your problem is most likely not with Windows, but the version of Word you are using that is tied to EditScript. I know when I was switched from Word 2003 to Word 2010, IT V did not work and we had to purchase IT VII. Unfortunately, there is probably no work-around for this issue. :-( I'm sorry.

Thank you for taking the time to answer. I haven't changed Word. All I changed was over a year ago was the upgrade from XP to Windows. Nothing else. I have had glitches that they couldn't figure out for years, but never came up with a solution and I have found ways to work around them, except this one. Each time I hit enter, IT stops working and has to be relinked. There was an auto update on my PC last week and part of it was Java. I am going to look in to that. Thank you again.

You bought IT V Pro years ago (seeing as IT7 was released back in 2010) and it worked with all the versions of Windows that were available at the time.

But you're not happy because they didn't make Microsoft keep new versions of Windows compatible with ITV? Or perhaps when they wrote ITV (I'm guessing 10 or so years ago as I bought it in 2008 and it had been out for quite a while) Textware should have used their crystal ball to foresee all those changes MS were going to make many years in the future and made sure ITV would still be compatible?

Oh hang on - they've made sure IT7 is compatible with existing versions of Windows. Companies don't support obsolete and superseded software forever.

If you're too cheap to upgrade a product you've no doubt well and truly gotten your money's worth from many times over, that's not their fault. Just because you don't like the choices (pay to upgrade (one-off or subscription), find a job that allows an obsolete version of Windows or stop using IT) doesn't mean they're out to get you.

Personallly, the extra features in IV7 have been worth the investment for me.

First, nothing else has changed. Second, there has been a glitch with V on average every few months since I have had it, and what is wrong with something working beyond an upgrade? I guess I am not materialist. Third, I am glad you are happy with yours and that you make enough money that you are not "cheap" enough to purchase it. IMO I'll bet you don't have many friends. To speak to someone you don't know in that manner and assume the worst of that person in the situation speaks of your character. I understand now why most people don't come to this board for anything, because there are so many like you, who do not know how to speak to another individual you don't even know the circumstances too. I will say a prayer for you. And before someone tries to tell me to leave religion out of it, I will not. It is MY choice and right, and no one will take that away from me. He is 24/7, and no where is it written one will not be held accountable for their behavior and actions just because they are on on this board, or at work! Have a good day!

The poster didn't say anyone was out to get them, you did. And I agree with the poster. With the wages one makes at this job, one can hardly afford to put food on the table, let alone nearly 200 more dollars for software that will obviously need to be upgraded every time we turn around. I have IT too, and 2 years after I purchased pro, they were emailing me to upgrade immediately. Hogwash! How hard is it to make updates to keep software updated? Five years is not that long. It is done all the time. Oh wait, I guess it is easier to change one or two things that people demand and say it is new and the best, and people buy into it, until the next time it is new, and improved, and the best.......I won't buy it either, even IF I could afford it, and it has nothing to do with being cheap!

I followed the instructions of a poster below for importing my .acl autocorrect to Instant Text V via the importer. It seemed to go. The question I have now is when I open Instant Text on the bottom right I see glossaries, the first glossary is for the transcription department of the company I will be working for. Anyone have any good websites for Instant text tutorial or questions? I did read through productivity talk and did find what I needed. I have not used this software in years. I use autotext, but I would like to use the line counting software that comes wtih IT. Just wondered about what you all think is the best expander to use with VR. I used to use Shorthand up to a couple of years ago and now work with Instant Text. It seems to me that Shorthand is very very popular with the VR crowd. Does anyone use Instant Text successfully with VR? I am looking for Instant Text users who may be able to get me headed in the right direction in regards to compilations.
