audio players - MT22

Any opinions about audio players. What are the good ones, cost effective etc. Bytescribe versus ExpressScribe? Any info is appreciated. Thank you!

I prefer Bytescribe, but it is expensive and you need - a Bytescribe foot pedal

I was lucky that the office I contracted with was willing to send me the software and the foot pedal. Later I found a Bytescribe foot pedal on eBay for $9 plus shipping and snapped it up. The software, though, would have cost several hundred dollars (about $370) if I had to purchase it.

I really do like the Bytescribe software though. Anything I could put through Express Scribe, I can put through Bytescribe and the sound quality is dramatically better. The sound files from the doctor's office comes to me encrypted to meet HIPAA compliance, too.

If you can afford it, I really recommend Bytescribe over Express Scribe.

I love my Bytescribe player. So far it has worked with every online test I have taken and the clarity of the audio is usually top-notch. I think I paid $99 for mine and well worth every penny.

I use DigiScribe by DigiTel software, and then I have a SoundBlaster 5.1 external sound card with Media Toolbox 6 audio-enhancing software and Dictaphone Stereo Deluxe headset. The dictation is so clear with these that it sounds as thought the doctors are right in front of you. I am hearing impaired and yet filling in blanks from other MTs. That is how good it works.

I have used Bytescribe, Express Scribe, and GearPlayer and out of all of them, I LOVE GearPlayer. I used to be loyal to Bytescribe and used WavPlayer for over ten years, but when I had to purchase new software, I had been referred to GearPlayer and now that is my #1 player that I use...for many reasons. It has great volume control on it, great settings for the foot pedal, etc. It also has a counter on it that starts counting as soon as you open your file, but you can click it to pause it if you take breaks so you can "time yourself" if you want to see how you are doing for lines vs. hour.

I am currently using Olympus which is not controlled by a foot pedal so it is taking quite a long time to get through these files. I am currently using a Mac for work, which mostly consists of proofreading and editing rather than straight transcription, and use Express Scribe for Mac. The sound quality is awful. I'm pretty sure it's related to ES because I can pull up the same files in other audio programs (Wave Pad, for example) and the sound quality is much, much better. Does anyone have a suggestion on an application to use instead of Express Scribe that can be controlled by the keyboard with hotkeys rathe ...

I am a "newbie." I have tested for 2 small companies and the audio was so bad I just couldn't hear enough to transcribe. Are all dictations this bad, or is it just some of them? The parts I could understand were fairly simple, but the audio sounded like a tape recorder when you are holding down rewind and play at the same time. I am just curious. Maybe my hearing is just not what it should be. Appreciate any response, ...

I put this on wrong board before. Here it is Sun/Mon and I am getting DQS to load jobs, but can get NO AUDIO on them at all. Thought it was the headphones MQ sent us as a gift last year, so changed to my Bose stereo headphones. I can get audio on anything else, just not DQS. in contacting a general transcription company for work, I was told "a one-on-one interview, 60 - 90 minute tapes, generally generates $40-$45 per tape." does this seem like a low figure?? I don't know much about these types of dictations. They said most transcriptionists complete one 60 to 90 minute tape per day. so how long do you think it would take to complete 90 minutes of two people interview and is $45 too low for that type of work?? just asking. ...

I'm looking at a job that pays 50-55 dollars per recorded hour of audio. This is interview or straight dictation transcription. Does this sound okay? I'm thinking if it takes me 2 hours to transcribe an hour, that wouldn't be such a bad deal. I'm just not sure how long it would take me. How long does it take to transcribe 1 audio hour of dictation? When I started, I was told we should average it as 10 minutes per every hour, but 10 minutes seems low to me now. It would probably take me about 20 minutes to do a 10 minute job today, with proofing and looking up words, etc. Then again, if you are learning something new, that might not be so unrealistic. I have been having exceptionally bad audio lately from normally good dictators and wonder why. Could this be another cost cutting measure somehow, or maybe they okayed docs to dictate under water or in their car or wherever on old crappy cell phones or something? It's bad enough to have to face the daily FIESA attack, but to take double the time to get through a report because of horrific audio is just the icing on the cake. Anybody else find this?
