Where can I find a GREAT (but cheap) ergo keyboard? - Chickadee

Posted: Jun 22, 2011

I know they have sales from time to time...do any of you know of a great sale that you can share with me?  I really would love to have an ergonomic keyboard again.  I used to have a Microsoft one that I loved years ago...but sadly my son spilled pop on it and I never replaced it.

Thank for letting me know!

I prefer the Microsoft Natural--not the newer generations of the natural, but the first one. I get mine at Amazon.com. They have various dealers listed on there and they are not to pricy!

Microsoft Natural "Elite" keyboard is messed up in my opinion. The arrow keys are placed in a really bad configuration, not in the usual natural position. I tried this, just as a break from monotony of typing all day long, but gave it away promptly! I found it quite impossible to work on. The Natural "Pro" (with the blue media buttons at the top, found one with gray buttons once) is the top of the line, the arrow keys are in the perfect place for easy navigation. I have found some new ones on Ebay as well. I would never use anything but this keyboard since it first came out!

Amazingly, I've bought about 5 or 6 at thrift stores. Usually about 2 bucks. All near-new and in really great shape. I figure people buy them, don't take the time to get used to the ergo of it, and then donate them. Every time I run across one, I snatch it right up.

Did you know that the average key board is built to withstand 10 million key strokes. I believe we go way beyond that number in this occupation!

I have a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse combo that I found at Amazon.com. I absolutely LOVE them both. The combo was somewhere around $60. Worth twice that much to me!! :)

Remember you will get what you pay for. I use only MS natural keyboards and have gotten almost all of my keyboards from either Amazon or Ebay. I have gotten some excellent deals on Ebay. I made the mistake of buying obviously used ones once and they didn't hold up to my daily typing. Make sure they are new or nearly new (you should be able to tell by the picture). Patience is the key there.

Found A Great Cheap Word Expander
Nov 16, 2014

I just wanted to share.  I was looking for a good word expander that would let me copy my Word autocorrect words over into it and would be running in the background on other programs, not just Word.  I didn't have a lot of $ to spend. I found Breevy and it has worked great and is $34.95 to purchase.  You get a 30-day free trial though.  I just wanted to let you gals know.  Best wishes to all and Happy Thanksgiving ahead of time!!   ...

Great Goodwill Find
Feb 05, 2010

Just had to share my Goodwill find.  Yesterday I found a split-key clackety key ergonomic keyboard for $1.65!!  I love it.  It is made by Belkin (I didn't know they made keyboards).  I think it's older because it has the PS/2 connector.  I cleaned it up, and it works just beautifully.  Just had to share.  ...

Great Line Counts Require Great Dictators.
Feb 11, 2015

I'm always over 200 until I get Mr. Mumblemouth who knows he is not forming actual words when he hums through the PE, as my counts plummet to as loiw as 75 LPH.   Then I get a long report from an excellent fast-talking dictator and my LPH jumps to 340.   Question:  Why is it that the MTSO does not comprehend the fact that our production depends on the capability of the provider to dictate correctly?   The horrid dictators are never told they are doing anything wrong as ...

Has Anyone Ever Used Ergo Bead Wrist Supports
Jun 26, 2011

Found this on transcrpitiongear.com (I have ordered equipment from them before and been happy with all purchases) and was wondering if it worked well but no reviews on it yet.  The descriptions says:  "ergoBeads™ are like no other wrist rests or stress balls. Ergonomically designed by an orthopedic surgeon, ergoBeads™ provide optimal comfort for your wrists and hands. Made of cotton Lycra, they are soft and cool against your skin. Carpal Tunnel & Ergo Keyboards
Nov 12, 2011

I was wondering if anyone has tried either the Kinesis contoured, Kinesis Freestyle, Goldtouch, or SafeType keyboards. I am using a Microsoft ergo split keyboard now, but I am having more and more pain and numb/weird feelings in my arms and hands. It's getting to the point where I am having a lot of difficulty typing. I definitely need to invest in a more high-end ergo keyboard, but they are quite expensive and I am not sure which one would be best. Just looking for any experiences and pro ...

Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro...need A New Keyboard, Any Recommendations?
Apr 03, 2010

Microsoft has discontinued these great keyboards and I need a new one.  Anybody aware of a split keyboard that has a really nice touch (remember those old IBM keyboards?) for transcription work by Microsoft or another brand that you really like? I'm open for suggestions please ; 0  My only complaint with this one is the keys are a bit clunky to press down (especially the space bar).  Thanks! ...

Mmodal--cheap
May 29, 2012

Too bad MModal is too cheap to send us out hard copies of everything we need to know rather than having us use our own ink to print everything.  And why should we have to watch a video to learn how to use Remedy?  Who has time for that?  If we watch the video, then we get criticized for the time spent not working!  We just can't win. ...

Why Don't They Pay Training Pay For Learning A New Acct, So Cheap
May 29, 2013

I got switched to another acct (not my idea) and it has 24 pages of rules and I don't get paid training pay to learn this new acct. So I went from making 450 lines per hour to 160 lines per hour so in essence, making around $6.00 an hour and the QA's gripe when you don't spend your time looking up something through the 24 pages of new acct rules.  Hey MM if you want us to spend hours looking up something before we learn the acct well then PAY US TO DO IT! Cheap (or Free) Expansion Program?
Apr 25, 2014

I work full time for a company where I am on a platform with a built in expander program, but I recently started picking up jobs for a friend's company when she gets too busy and her staff can't keep up with it. All of the work there is done on Word and would be so much easier if I had an expansion program. The problem is, I don't want to pay $150 for a program that I only will use once or twice a month at most. Does anyone know of a program that is really cheap or free?  ...

FTP Server On The Cheap? Anyone Use Core FTP Server?
Dec 14, 2010

I'm starting to pick up some local MDs on my own and was wondering how to set up a FTP server.  I have used Core FTP in the past to access files on a server for another company I worked for, but now I want to set up a server for myself and my clients' use.  I've googled until my eyes bleed but it's all a bit over my head (and I'm usually pretty tech savvy).  Right now I only have 1 client so I would like to do this using something rather inexpensive (free ...

Oh Just Great! NOT No OT Pay For Me.
Mar 03, 2011

I was just informed that, even though I worked OT in my time zone (PST) and before my shift (second shift), their day is in CST, so anything after their midnight (CST) goes to the next day - that days and hours count in CST. Geez, maybe I should be working my shift in CST hours. That could be nice. I would get to start 2 hours earlier and stop at a more decent hour. This stinks like week-old fish, and I'm thinking the Calif EED might look at it a different way! ...
