New to expander programs...Which works best with Bayscribe? - Any help or advice appreciated!

Just got a new account that uses Bayscribe and am totally new to expander programs. I understand there are a couple of good ones that have free trial offers which I'd like to try to make sure I'm able to figure it out and use it, lol!

Does anyone know which expander program works best with Bayscribe?

I also noticed several typos in their demo (the lack of a capital "T" in "Thank you" at the beginning of each of the emails they demo'd).

Also, perhaps I'm paranoid and no offense, but your post reads like a sales pitch and copipasta from the site.

Do you legitimately use this PhraseExpress program? TBH, I'm rather apprehensive about it.

They have a 30-day free trial. I tried IT, which is fantastic, but takes so long to get used to. With Smartype, I was up and running that day with no long learning curve.

Okay, so I have the free 30-day trial downloaded but...well, does it work like Shorthand, where it's picking up everything I type as I go along? It looks like Word, actually, so I'm not sure what (if anything) I need to do on my end other than download it and transcribe as usual and it will its thing...Is it that easy? Thanks so much for your help!

Basically you have the idea. ST follows along with you and gives you expansions with a space or punctuation. The words and phrases are preloaded, but you can add your own too.

when you can use the built-in expander of your transcription platform?

Most likely because you want a more powerful expander program that does a lot more for you to get the typing and/or editing done in less time with the highest rate of accuracy. Using a more powerful program implies definitely learning how to use that speeding power.

Another reason to use an outside expander is that you want a program that works with every transcription platform, with Bayscribe as well as with others, so that when changing jobs you can carry with you the expander list(s) you spend so much time building or money buying.

To compare the programs that are available you need to do some reading and searching on the Internet before you decide which one you want to download and spend time trying. Search for Instant Text - Shorthand - Smartype and find out which one is the Ferrari. :-)

What I can tell you is Instant Text works with Bayscribe.

I was going to sign up for the free trial with IntelliType but the rep said it's compatible with only Word programs and I don't believe Bayscribe is word-based (if it is, please feel free to correct me on that!). Hope everyone is having a good Thursday. I was wondering if anyone knew any way of converting an IT glossary to make it work in shorthand. Unfortunately, I had to upgrade my computer to Windows 7, and IT V Pro will not work with Windows 7. I get a different answer each time I ask someone about expander programs. Does anyone use them? Does everyone use them? Are they compatible with the BIG MTSOs and their platforms? I have Word 2010 and that's what I use to work in but the autotext is awful. I used to be able to type my shortcut and it would automatically pop up when I pressed the spacebar but now with 2010 I have to hit enter which just slows me way down. Also they used to be able to be captilized or not depending on what I typed it in but now, whatever case I save it in is what it comes up as. It's just a pain and I am slowed way down. Anyone out there in MT land know of a way to put my Bayscribe expander onto a different computer. I thought it was supposed to just automatically download or something if you were switching computers but mine does not. I tried upgrading the tools and that did not help and neither did taking the tools off and putting them back on. Any ideas? I have a bad feeling I can't do it at all and I sure do not want to put all of my expanded terms in all over again. TIA. ...

I downloaded the trial version of Instant Text and used the Importer to import my Bayscribe expander entries through Text File. Either this was the wrong format to use or I did something else wrong because the entries are not expanding. I was able to get the abbvs.glo file to show up in the glossary entries. Whenever I type a word and hit the space bar, it either does not expand and when it does, it puts an extra letter in front of the expanded word, such as: bl = bbilateral cons = cconsultation It is also slower to expand and looks like it is deleting a letter quickly after I hit the spacebar before expanding. Okay, I want to know who programs the ASR. I'm told that we do, but anytime I make a ligit change, it doesn't stick. Yet, all of a sudden, on an account I have been typing on for 3 years, ASR starts changing the word stroke to a backslash (/) and this is for every instance. I just spoke with an MT at a large radiology group who says they use different softwares for different studies. So they have probably 5 different programs to try to merge into one cohesive patient record. Hi. I finished MT school at Oak Horizons in November/December of 2010.
