Instant Text Pro - transfer glossary to another computer - landroverlady

Does anyone know if you can transfer your Intant Text Pro glossary to another computer without the disk? My computer is about ready to die but I have huge glossary that I am afraid I will have to restart plus buy a whole new disk. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What if you were to save your glossary to a USB chip? I'm not sure if that would work, but you could give it a try.

I wondered that too but I'm not very computer savy so I don't have a clue. Just angry at myself for losing my disk in a move. Just wonder what other people have done with a huge glossary and then getting a new computer.

It is good to keep it for backup. I used it to transfer glossaries, not the whole thing. Just the glossaries I use,paste them into the glossaries folder.
If you don't have the new IT it is really worth it.

Yes, you can just transfer your glossary over to another computer that has InstantText installed. I have done it multiple times in between 2 computers that I have worked on. You just find where your glossary is located (for example: C:/InstText/glossary (a .glo file) and save it on a USB drive. Put it in the 2nd computer, open up your IT on the new computer and open up the glossary folder. You then copy and paste the file from your old computer into it and done! I do know that unless you bought multiple licences for ITP that you cannot copy that whole program onto a new computer. They want their money, you know.

Thanks so much. That really will help me. I kind of figured I would have to buy another ITP but the thought of inputting 15 years of glossary info in again seemed so daunting. Thanks! Now I just need to find a deal on ITP! Yeah right. lol

You could also email youself the glossaries. I do it all the time to keep the glossary on my laptop the same as the one on my desktop. I have one big glossary and have done it many times.

I only want to use the glossary of terms that I've established on IT (and works really well for me), but I'm unable to disable the Medstart glossary that came with IT. Even though they're separate glossaries and my glossary is the highlighted one for use, Medstart is over-riding mine. Example: For capital B, it types out "blood." Please, please, MAKE IT STOP! I use Instant Text and in the past I have been able to open the dates glossaries, do a find and replace with the new year and then save the glossary - I have forgotten exactly how I did that and all I can find on the Instant Text website is a new way to create a new dates glossary (which is too confusing for me...see above - getting too old for this). If you know how to do this, can you post the instructions here? Maybe others are looking to do the same thing...... ...

Hi - My IT is great but for some reason it keeps telling me that my glossary is "incorrect." I can still use the IT with my transcription program and can add entries, etc. I just don't get it. What exactly is "incorrect?" My only thought on this is that I had copied something out of my transcription program from an E-mail (from the company) for an entry and ever since then it started doing this. Anyone have any good websites for Instant text tutorial or questions? I did read through productivity talk and did find what I needed. I have not used this software in years. I use autotext, but I would like to use the line counting software that comes wtih IT. I am trying to figure out a short cut to copying text, right clicking on IT , clipboard statistics, and logging each note. Any thoughts on how to do this with keystrokes and NOT the mouse? Just wondered about what you all think is the best expander to use with VR. I used to use Shorthand up to a couple of years ago and now work with Instant Text. It seems to me that Shorthand is very very popular with the VR crowd. Does anyone use Instant Text successfully with VR? The version of IT I have (V Pro) does not have the recording functions and the ability to use shortcuts (like Alt+ and Control+) like Shorthand does. I am trying to use Instant Text with Emdat. I know it is supposed to work, but for some reason it isn't. The shortcuts don't expand, the "period" key doesn't work. The spacebar only makes a space if I hit it twice. Has this happened to anyone else. Any ideas? ...
