Offshoring and our now government - anon

It does not matter if you choose a service that does not offshore. Most of the hospitals are using 2 services anyway and they do NOT want to pay for transcription. This is big business and it keeps the money flowing to the people who demand high salaries and who have direct patient contact. It is no big deal that the reports come back horrible. The hospitals have wanted for years to rid any of the jobs that were not of 'direct patient contact' and we were targets.

Why does our government still pay the company to offshore also? Nobody has stopped that. I think that is why we suffer here too and then the services lie about it. They have a good thing going at our expense. We here are all struggling albeit with the low pay and then the horrible dictators so that profits can be made and surely not for us who struggle. The job is in the gutter and that is where I fear we will all be.

Macy's now is offshoring and you are speaking to India, as are all of our internet providers. Comcast and AOL do use India on the off hours. I am not sure about the daytime. Who knows who AT&T uses as even in the daytime, I have spoken to some IT people who sounded like they took a crash course at the company in 2 hours!

Companies should be penalized for offshoring like that - I am glad to see many companies are now posting that they wll not hire offshore applicants. Hopefully, the tide will turn. The greed in this country never ceases to amaze me. No loyalty to the USA whatsoever. It's all about money.

And these big companies all offshore. We were all eliminated from a Christian Hospital and were told by management that they will always have a service as it is 'good business practice and makes sense.' As long at the government gives them a reward for offshoring, it will always be. We feel sorry for the underprivleged countries, and rightfully so, but as in the song by 10-Years After..."tax the rich, feed the poor until there are no rich no more." I have heard how hard it is for the other countries to live off of 3 cents a line in their country, yet they don't realize how hard it is to live here in the US on 4 cents either.

Someone once said that it is good to be open-minded but not so much that your brains fall out! The word "compassion" could be inserted for "open-minded" for an interesting and perhaps provocative statement:)

I had to contact Target regarding my credit card account and swore I was speaking with someone from India. I complained until I got an American supervisor who assured me they did not hire offshore. Went to Target online and there it was in the careers section, a Mumbai address for job inquiries. Puh-leez!

I wrote my senator about offshoring and outsourcing jobs, and I got a canned response stating that the reason for outsourcing our jobs is that we are not qualified and cannot compete and that we need more education. You know, big business-type education where parents go bankrupt trying to send the kids to college only to find out there are no jobs for them either. My senator does not get it. It is greed for bigger profits at any cost. Outsourcing has nothing to do with our education or skills. Fat cats in the board rooms salivate at the thought of making more and more money. Since I was not stisfied with the canned response, I sent the same letter to the President. No answer. So what is new?

For anyone who currently works for an MTSO that handles VA or other federal government work, you must have employee status and be paid at least the hourly wage determination rate. The wage determination rate is NOT the same as minimum wage. It is, in most cases, significantly higher, and each county in every state has their own WDR. I could be wrong, but it appears to me that the VR came about as an answer to the problem of offshoring. I am sure many clients prefer to keep their dictation/transcription right here in the USA and request that from the companies they use. This is my theory - VR is actually foreigners typing the reports for 1-2 cpl. When then get it to correct all the mistakes for 3-4 cpl. This brings the total average of 8 cpl down to around 6 cpl. What is the attraction about India, that so much of the transcription is being sent there? It seems to me that someone for whom English is a second language would not do very well in transcribing reports from the U.S. I would expect that a lot of those reports would have be heavily eited or completely re-done. Just wanted everyone out there to know (if you have not already figured it out from your QA reports at Nuance) that Nuance is now sending US MTs QA offshore. If you are working in an account that is done offshore, then your QA could and will be done by offshore QA. I've been an MT for over 20 years and am seriously considering switching my focus to coding. I believe that I would be a good fit and am excited about starting a new career in the not-too-distant future.
