Article - Health care law prohibits data - flowing offshore

Posted: Jun 27, 2010

Moderate, please don't move this to offshore board. It needs to be seen by more people.

Exerpt:

"The new law imposes limits on outsourcing by American insurance companies and medical service providers. In addition, several categories of data are prohibited from flowing offshore. As a result, many Indian outsourcing firms have begun setting up shop in the United States. America’s outsourcers are now outsourcing back to America."

They've gotten used to paying a top price of 3 cpl and I suspect they will balk at paying even 9. Of course, in the get what you pay for, all those MTs who really know their stuff will either retire or leave the industry entirely, leaving the matchbook MTs to carry the load. And, with all due respect, that will just enable them to send it all back to some other 3rd world country anyway, this time with the blessing of the federal government since there really will not be enough US MTs capable of doing the work.

That's probably right, though - sm

It is possible that with things like VR, an MTs time may be spent better in house doing other things in addition to MT. We may end up with more oporutnities doing MT plus office support. I would imagine an MD would want one person to handle the MT, billing, etc, rather than outsourcing to a bunch of different companies. For those that are willing to go in house and learn some new skills, this could be a very good development.

You seem to be the only one w/o blinders - on

I see this as a good thing for US MTs. I don't understand those who don't.
Thanks - sm

I suppose that being young(er) I tend to look for the upsides. I don't want to transcribe for the next 40 years sitting at home staring at a computer screen, I don't think there will be a demand for it in the next 10 years anyway. It is nice to know that our skills will still be in demand in many different ways. MT is only a starting point for me, a way to pay bills while my kids are little.

For those that are unwilling or unable to go in house, it could be bad. Or it could give the true US companies more incentive to keep US MTs on the payroll.
Maybe because some of us have been in it too long and - Backwards Typist

know that no matter what is done, it's the MT that gets the shaft.

A legitimate concern - medical-transcription-indiana

This provides new light on the offshoring topic. With Indian and perhaps other offshore companies moving onshore, do you believe that this will push these offshore companies to increase their price? I believe it might.

This might very well be used to increase the case for using onshore transcription services. What do you think? I think this might benefit us, as a provider of medical transcription in Indiana. If anyone intends to use this for to market their services, I am highly curious to hear how it goes.

Could Anyone Who Has An HRA (health Reimbursement Arrangement) Type Of Health Care
May 04, 2010

tell me how that works?  I know the insurance premiums are less than a regular health plan.  If your  company puts 500 in your account, does that mean the first few times, for example, until you use up the 500, you don't pay ANYTHING or is it the opposite...you pay the entire office visit cost until you reach that 500?  I would be so grateful for any information about this type of plan.  TIA ...

Excellent Article About The Deterioration Of Notes For Patient Care
Sep 19, 2014

I have always hated it when the doctor crams in every disease the patient has in the first line whether or not the list is relevant to the chief complaint.  I can't think of anything more pointless than having a PA or resident dictate discharges when all he or she does is lift the consultants' impressions and plans and then plug in his or her standard "vital signs remained stable and the patient was discharged in stable condition."  They just chant thru it, as fast as possib ...

I Wonder What This Health Care Reform Will Do
Mar 23, 2010

I pay very little attention to what Washington does, but I have to wonder if this new health care reform that dear old Obama has finally pushed through is going to affect our jobs and pay rate.  My husband gets good insurance through UPS, and he says that it will make his insurance less because according to this bill, everyone gets the same coverage.  At least that's how he explained it. So is this going to cost doctors and hospitals money, and if it does, is that going to make t ...

Health Care Management Or IT?
Aug 17, 2010

I'm going back to school to get out of transcription. I currently do QA. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know with IT I'd need to keep up a bunch of certificat ...

Ascend Health Care - Payment

Has anyone who was hired on at Ascend/Portal Health Care LLC during the last hiring received their payment for Phase I?  I am beyond outraged right now; just told that I will have to wait until after the 15th  for my first payment to be processed b/c processing ended on March 20th despite repeated emails being sent out by payroll stating that submission after the 20th wouldn't affect the schedule of payment.  Not to mention, I submitted my invoice twice and asked for re ...
