Wondering if numerous MTs have left - Curious

Posted: Sep 18, 2013

who were originally on my accounts.  The work used to be feast or famine quite often. Now all the accounts seem to be swamped on a daily basis, constantly approved for OT for FT people (though no incentive for PT or PT progressive people), lots of cheerleading about making a big team effort every day, starting earlier and working later. I don't know how they aren't losing the accounts with them being out of TAT daily.  It never used to be this way and I am wondering if that many people have quit.  In spite of the constant pressure to work more and all the FIESA and LPH demands, it seems like if they were firing people with the accounts in such poor shape, they'd be cutting off their nose to spite their face.  It also seems strange when there are people complaining they are out of work.

+1 who quit in mid-August. - Never been happier. NM

I have to have something better lined up before I can jump ship, but I am counting the days. This is the most stressful job I have ever had.

Nuance taking over our hospital dictation - LadyWriter

[ In Reply To ..]
We learned today that our transcription department is being eliminated and Nuance will be taking over. However, Nuance has kindly agreed to offer employment to us, promising that our first choice will be our hospital account. I think they are full of it and are just telling the hospital (and us) what they think we need to hear, and that one should run, and not walk, away from their job offer. Thoughts?
They need the MTs to come with the account. After - all, no MTs, no production. That is not
[ In Reply To ..]
to say some will not be let go. In fact, it's normal for many hospital MTs to not make the transition to MTSO conditions, so they'll expect many to leave on their own or be let go after coming with the company.

As for what they promise? For those who stay that long, the account will probably good for the first several weeks at least, perhaps indefinitely. Expect other accounts to be added, and you will likely accept a few to avoid running out of work so often.

Whatever might be said about pay, forget it. Strictly temporary at best, and the direction is down, then down again, and down some more.

MTs who left - PolyPPB

[ In Reply To ..]
Undoubtedly, the MTs who left are too numerous to mention. I tried to email my old TLs and they are no longer in the system. Nuance must have an employee turnover rate as bad or worst than their TAT. I could not wait to springboard off that bad boy, lost 1000 tons and feel like a million bucks!

I think it's interesting that they have to outsource their overflow... - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
to companies like TTS. Nuance is one of the largest MTSOs, yet they can't find coverage even with all the MTs looking for jobs? It tells you something about their working conditions and reputation.

Not just me? - Shadow

I was surprised reading all the comments that it's not just me going nutso trying to make a pay check. I keep getting it's by your state laws etc, so basically getting paid less for the same work as the state next to me? That's bogus! Then the constant complaints of lines, hours, QA! I commend those who have gone, and must admit I'm not far behind. This is the worst and cheapest place I have ever worked for!

Curious - soon

[ In Reply To ..]
I plan to leave as soon as possible. Have been working on transitioning into a new field all together - almost there :) No more ridiculously low pay and unbelievably high expectations. Enough is enough.

Good for you! - Curious

[ In Reply To ..]
What field are you transitioning into? I have considered some options, but all involve time and schooling, and I am not sure what the best path would be.

All Aboard! The US-MT bus is leaving! - LOL

Request a transfer instead. - Funny
[ In Reply To ..]
Dear Super Viser,

Please, I would be very much liking to request the transfer of me to be working in India. I am merely asking since I would not find you pinching my pocket any more, but would discover you filling them with many 19 rupees for each one hour of my working. Firstly, in India 19 many rupees an hour is like a king's ransom so I would be liking that muchly, and I already have mastered the speaking of English.

I'll tell you something, if they made it - worth our while

[ In Reply To ..]
I'd be typing all night and my day off. Used to do that with Webmedx, where they truly paid time and a half PER LINE and if you typed a certain amount of lines a gift certificate in addition.

By worth our while I mean 1.5x the lph and 2x after midnight, not half the hourly rate tacked on per hour which sucks. Also limit those accounts in trouble to only 1 QA review per day per MT because there's nothing worse than working 10-11 hours for the cause then getting a lovely Fiesa email.

They would rather lose the account than offer anything at all apparently. You are right, the OTAT has never been this bad. Seems like they have no one at all working the night shift either.

I remember those sweet Webmedx days - on my way out of MT

[ In Reply To ..]
If only I could still have a job like that! I worked myself to death and made 50 grand one year. Then came Nuance, swinging the scythe of death and ruined it all.

WMX went bad at the end, but never so bad lots of - good work did not earn good incentive.nm

I left in March - nobody cares about TAT anymore - on my way out of MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I wondered for some time about the TAT not mattering to management anymore. Then I realized it was a tool they use to sell VR to the stubborn holdouts. They blame MTs and straight typing for the TAT problems, and sell, sell, sell VR as the solution. They don't care if its true or not, as long as they make the sale. Ever notice the only time you're part of a "team" is when they need something? The rest of the time you're just a nameless cog in the VR sales machine. Their working conditions are insane, and that too is their goal to add more and more pressure get you to quit so they never have to lay anybody off when all their accounts are dried up.

Are we hidden and poorly valued because - it is an embarrassment

[ In Reply To ..]
that the VR tool is so bad that it requires experienced MTs to fix all the mistakes, and there are way more of them (mistakes) than they want to admit? They want to pretend they don't need us and that is why it seems like they do not value us (well, of course, they in fact do not value us!). But anyway, maybe they don't want to admit to themselves or their clients and potential clients that we are essential to the success of this strategy for producting medical records from dictation and that we highly trained MTs have to contribute hugely (not just "proofread") in order for the patient record to be valid and useful after going through VR.

what an excellent conclusion - I saw the same thing happen s.m.

[ In Reply To ..]
in the last hospital I worked at when some moron wanted a new trans. system, they let it lock up constantly ("full")so doctors complained and okayed all the money for the worthless, productivity-defeating windows based system, leaving WP5 behind, when it was all completely avoidable. The last decent job I had.

If this were true, N would have to have a NEW - system to sell. VR is here already. ? nm

Not all hospitals have VR - yet! - on my way out of MT

[ In Reply To ..]
VR is not everywhere yet. As evidenced by other posts on this board - they are constantly selling it to "holdout" hospitals and offering to employ their MTs to assuage any guilt. Not every hospital/doctor's office wants VR (its very pricey and we all know its not as wonderful as they claim) and there are many prospective customers that require convincing, bribes and lots of hard sell tactics to change their mind. Usually is all about the attitudes of the doctors that will be using it - some are progressive and dying to try every new technology, some are older and set in their ways and aren't turned on by the idea of more "progress". Oh, I'm sure there is plenty of planned obsolescence in this product - just like all software - to keep forcing customers to buy upgrades. But getting them to invest in the first place is the big push; forcing them to invest more later in maintenance contracts and upgrades will be a piece of cake in comparison.,

ASR Errors/TOO NUMEROUS TO COUNT
Jul 01, 2010

Has anyone else noticed the numerous errors on ASR??  Words left out, he/she incorrect, the strangest of phrases being picked up by the computer that are not even dictated and the phrases picked up do not even come close to what is really being said.  It just seems to me as this ASR is getting worse by the day.  You would think after spending all the money on the purchase or Spheris, that some amount of money would be spent in cleaning up ASR.  The CCM/and the Q worry about c ...

Wondering About Pay
Dec 14, 2009

I work as an MT in a very rural area, so the pay is VERY good for me.  We are a one income household since my husband got laid off and I easily pay the mortgage, car payments, all of the bills, etc.  I was wondering, if a person lives in a much more expensive area, like California where a person's mortgage would easily be four times mine, do they get more money per line to compensate for that, or is it the same? ...

As an in-house MT we were required to wear business casual clothing.  Another job required scrubs.  Now that I work from home, I wear pJs, sweats, jeans, shorts, whatever.   I noticed that when I am "dressed" (not in pj's or sweats) that I seem to be more productive and I was wondering if others have noticed the same thing.  Sometimes I wonder if the way we dress to transcribe affects our productivity as a professional employee.  You know when you dress up to go ou ...

Wondering About Something, With So Many Of Us

I wonder that most of us seem to be in the mid-40s and even later 50s or 60s that are sick of the MT garbage and want to get out by going back to school. Has anyone considered the fact of how old you/we will be when we graduate a program? Wondering
Mar 05, 2015

Okay, I have to wonder if it costs so much to train an MT for a company that they would not work with their MTs to keep them happy in the work types and specialties they do. Most times instead if you are not happy with your accounts, they just fire you. Doesn't anyone work with anyone so it benefits the MT and the company both? I find it so maddening that someone just hired can do this without even discussing it with the MT at all. Just fire them because they wanted to try another sp ...
