Screw all of this! - Pollyanna

Posted: Jun 23, 2014

My 27-year-old son is diagnosed with lung cancer.  Do you honestly think I give a flip about theise errors?  I'm struggling to do my hours with this horrible company.  They could care less what I'm going through.  You have no idea what it feels like to hear your 27-year-old son has cancer!

I am sorry, Pollyanna - Wish there was something I could

do to help you. Prayers & hugs for you & your son.

Can you apply for FMLA? - Or

disability benefits to take care of your son?

Family leave - Pollyanna

I may qualify for it but with no pay that's horrific. My 27-year-old son now has cancer thanks to being on Humira. Tell everyone you know to never take this drug.

FMLA - the horrors of Hartford - Cancer Survivor

By all means, go for the FMLA if feasible but beware the hoops that Hartford will make you jump through. Stay on top of the paperwork and in close touch with your son's nurse navigator and ask her to help you make sure all the paperwork is filed in a timely manner. You can end up losing your job through no fault of your own, if your son's care providers fail to submit the paperwork within a vey short time frame. You may also need to make weekly or perhaps even daily phone calls. The nurse navigator is invaluable in this regard.

FMLA will protect you though! - CuriousMT

Pollyanna, I am so sorry to hear you're going through this. I do hope he is able to get the needed treatments and is able to be cured.

With regards to FMLA, I speak from experience when I say if you think for any reason your production will slip, or you will need to take off to take him to the doctor, etc., if you're able to take it, do!

I can't remember if a 27-year-old child will make you eligible for it, but basically anyone with any medical problems for them or family should take this protection. It doesn't mean you're going to absolutely take off work. It just means that by filing, you're alerting your employer that something is going on and you may have to take off, and you can be protected from being fired. They can't force you to work if you have to take off to take them to the doctor, etc. You get a cumulative set of hours, and when I needed it, I kept track, hour by hour and used every bit in small increments to take care of my spouse.

Again, I wish you the best of luck.
Agree, at least apply for FMLA - that way you have some
[ In Reply To ..]
protection if they hassle you about your line count, etc., at least you have it in writing that you are dealing with family illness. And it's a federal law, so you should have some recourse if they don't honor it. Worth a shot. My best to you & your son.

Lawsuit? - Meh

Peace be yours and your son. I Googled "Humira and lawsuit" and there's a person who got a 2 million settlement because she took Humira in the hospital which effed her up. I think there are lawyers who would take such cases and not charge unless they win the case. I think a lot of people are suing, actually.

I am so sorry for you Pollyanna. Wish I could help - my father had lung cancer too

It is an awful disease. Praying for a miracle for your son. Stay strong for him and don't let the Nuance idiots detract from your strength or self-esteem.

Aw Pollyanna - So sorry

Nothing anyone can say can make it any easier...My prayers are with you and your family

Sorry to hear about your son.

I see you on here all the time, though. Constant bicker and bitter and whine and complain from you.

If you spent as much time working on either improving your own attitude toward work (if you don't want to leave this field) or getting a new job, you'd be at least getting ahead somehow.

You will always lose if you are unhappy, complain, whine and never do anything about it.

You choose your own unhappiness as far as this work goes. It's up to you to change it.

The MTSOs Have Found Another Way To Screw Us -- Anyone Have Info On
Apr 26, 2010

Looks like the MTSOs have found a new trick pony.  They tried to screw Medical Transcriptionists out of hard-earned money by trying to implement line counts based on VBC (visible black character), but very few MTs were willing to accept that, so not many MTSOs are still trying to push it.  Now they have found their newest way to screw the MT -- “meeting quality” mandate in order for us to keep the minimum wage we currently make.  Pay is set at .09 for 65 char line wi ...
