OUTSOURCED!!!!! - Are these comments true
Posted: Jul 05, 2013
Nuance just bought our hospital. :( Is all this stuff true on these boards? Should we transition or bail? I am so very scared after reading all this stuff.

you will make more money at a retail store or a call center. Don't believe the lies they tell you to keep you on. You owe them nothing. They will promise you the moon and give you nothing.
For the most part what you read is TRUE - sorry to say

Unfortunately, most of what you have read (if not all) is true about Nuance. My company (Transcend) was bought by Nuance in March 2012. I held out hope that much of what I read on the boards was just sour grapes. However, it wasn't. Our pay was drastically cut in December, the micromanaging was HORRIBLE. The lack of communication and total disregard to employees, their schedules, their needs, was beyond my imagination. Eventually, I was totally defeated and demoralized by them, after 45 years in this business, and I retired. I CANNOT IN GOOD CONSCIENCE recommend this company. If you have choices, get out. If you don't right now, get some, fast. I have still have friends that are in the company and they are only there until they can get something else

I for one, have not ever told a lie here and have published only what I KNOW I would want someone to have told me before I made the Nuance mistake.
Oh so true - sm

For some strange reason, Nasty Nuance (my opinion) appears to consider themselves the cream of the crop (or a close second to M*Modal) and for the life of me, I can't figure out why. From where I stand, all they have done is contribute substantially to the demise of MT as we all knew it. It really is so sad what has become of this "career."
So, to outsourced, I say get out while you can. I barely lasted 2 weeks with Nuance and I am far from a newbie in this business (close to 30 years), and I am studying my way out of MT as fast as I possibly can. My resignation from my current company can't come soon enough. Good luck to you!
**** Disclaimer**** Of course, this is just my opinion.
Unfortunatly, this is the reality of this field - sm

If I was you, I would try to find something in the hospital that you are employed at now, as hospital employees get first dibs at postings. Look into what your hospital is doing about EMR, maybe you can get a job there as date entry into EMR. If you take a job with Nuance you pay will be cut in half if not less and your benefits will be expensive. Good luck.

I don't see how they can do these things without being in big trouble. It's looking like GROSS, whatever, but I'm sure there is a name for it. In other words, I wouldn't think they could continue to operate this way, kind of like a sweat shop, Illegal.

If you are a hospital employee, definitely check into other job opportunities there. My department was outsourced and at least half of us got other jobs with the same company, which was great because we got to keep our benefits and seniority. I did get a job working with the EMR. Even if it only starts out as a temp job many of them work into something permanent. Apply for everything even if you are not the most qualified person. I've never worked for Nuance but I think almost anything would be better. Sorry this is happening to you, good luck.

I was confused about how someone could say something like that in this horrible situation. This is very, very bad for me, and I am all alone with No support or backup whatsoever. I am very scared. I didn't work my entire life, over 30 years, in this career to all of a sudden end up homeless and hungry.
So sorry for your situation. - xx

I would take the advice of others and ask your hospital HR about job opportunities there that would be equal to the pay you received as an MT. Tell them your situation. If there is nothing available, ask if you will be able to receive unemployment compensation as you will be taking too large a cut in pay with Nuance. The hospital might not have any objections to your filing for unemployment. At least that will be more than what you will be getting while working at Nuance and afford you the opportunity to find another job somewhere else. Good luck to you. Nuance really is a horrible company to work for, honestly and truly horrible. Get out before you get stuck.

I, too, am so sorry you find yourself in this situation. I know what it is like to be all alone with no support or backup, and empathize with you in that regard as well. In my personal experience, which is all I can attest to: Upon my former company being bought out by Nuance, my flexible schedule went away, I had to start punching a timeclock with a very strict schedule, my pay was drastically reduced, my quality suddenly went downhill (20 years as an MLS and I take so much pride in my work), my PTO decreased, I always only come **this close** to earning any kind of bonus, the cost of benefits went up while coverage went down, LPH requirement went up, quality percentage went up, and the amount of work we are expected to do without getting paid for it increased. I was told everything would stay the same during the transition period. That is my experience. This is the truth as I have lived it and I am heart sick about the whole thing. I think this is an extremely greedy company that has not one ounce of fairness or compassion. I find they continually ask for more and more of the MLS while compensating less and less for it. They continually find ways to take away what little we are receiving. My advice is to start looking at other options. I truly do wish you the best.

come her to complain. It depends. I would say you can always quit later if you are not happy. My guess is there are lots of happy nuance employees. I have had some issues but have a good TSM and make pretty good money.
Okay - I see

I cannot see how they can be happy making minimum wage.
Yeah, that's a good one - Dreamer
[ In Reply To ..]
Don't kid me, if you are "happy" at Nuance, you are definitely not an MT for this company or you are happy earning less than they make at McDonald's. Don't even try to lie about it, because I've seen the line count report breakdown for 108 MTs on my work team and out of those . . . just 2 people out of those were making more than minimum wage. I venture to say those two have reports that require absolutely no editing, unlike the mess they give me that is garbled, nonsensical jibberish that requires nearly a full rewrite.
Whatever. If I didn't make more than minimum wage - sm

I would go be a Walmart greeter. Further, if I were Nuance I would fire all MLS who could not meet production.
This is a good one - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
That means probably 90% of their work force then, LOL!
'Fire all MLS who could not meet production,' would be like dumping gasoline on a campfire. The flashback would be so bad the company would be completely incinerated!
Here's the problem - transcription was never an easy job, but it's even more difficult now. Add in that in two decades wages went from $30 an hour down to minimum wage not only for the same job but a much tougher job. Is there resentment?
Yes, undoubtedly so, but that anger and resentment comes from knowing that the CEO of Nuance receives 37 million in yearly compensation for his 'job,' which on his worst day ever has never had so much stress it made him cry or throw up for minimum wage I can promise you that. This is the same man who wants to 'maximize production, while limiting his labor force,' which translates to - we're not done exploiting the skills of our work force, and we will not rest until we have them working for nothing.
I was getting ready to start coding classes and started reading about it being outsourced. I do not want to be in the same boat as I am now with transcription.
Should I just give up on coding all together and look into something else? ...
The hospital where I worked decided to outsource us. They did it in the worst way possible, they call us in for a meeting but it is not on the usual date of our dept meetings. The CFO, HR, and the new transcription company are at the head of the table. The CFO says, "the hospital has decided to award our transcription to ______ (starts with a W)." That's all he said! No gratitude (some have worked there for 40, 24, 11, 8 years), no severance package. By state or federal law, when they l ...

I have a few questions for anyone who is in fact an employee of M-Modal. My current employer just informed us that we were being outsourced to M-Modal. We, being 12-13 MTs, are really freaking out. We are hearing all of these "not so good" reviews and really we do not know who or what to believe. Management says we will be offered jobs individually with M-Modal, as they really want to keep the current MTs on the region and doing this hospital's transcription, but from what I gathe ...
I was reading the Tampa Tribune last night. There was an article regarding outsourcing. It talked about x-rays and scans being sent to India and the Phillipines (which we all know happens), but the article said now insurance companies, instead of having nurses on staff to assist patients pre and post-op, as well as answering medical questions, will be using "overseas people" in, again, India and the Phillipines. Why you ask? Because they work for peanuts.

I have read the conversations here with such deep compassion for the fear and hopelessness most are experiencing in this transition from proud profession to extinction. From my cocoon of full benefit hospital system position, I still deeply empathized with my fellow MTs in distress. I have the sense that I will soon join your ranks and would like to ask what are the signs that your hospital/service is preparing to "save money" by throwing their dedicated employees into the giant cess ...

Our transcription department was informed yesterday that we are going to be laid off and our work outsourced to 1 of 2 companies vying for the contract. Of course, as in most cases, we transcriptionists have been given the option to apply to work for the company who is given the contract. I'm wondering if any of you gals here might have suggestions as to what kinds of questions to ask the "recruiters" of these companies besides the obvious, i.e., pay per line, benefits, shift di ...

Management says they are considering 4 MTSOs, and that we will probably be offered jobs with whichever they choose. Mediscribes is one of the four, so we have lots of questions about Mediscribes:
Has anyone else here been hired by Mediscribes because their hospital outsourced to them? Did they keep you on the same account?
Did they bring you on at one rate of pay, then cut your pay later (like Nuance does)? If yes, how much later and to what rate of pay?
And for any Mediscribe ...
Forgive me if this topic has been covered and/or beat to death, but were most of you aware that not only does Nuance outsource some/a good portion of the work to India, but that Nuance India actually outsources their work to other companies?
It is one thing that they're sending it oversees in the first place, but then once it goes to another company, and potentially another one after that if they're anything like US companies... I have an issue with that.
This makes me so sick! ...
Hi:
My company has been outsourced to M*Modal. I am used to getting paid by the hour.
I wanted to know from transcriptonists who are presently hired by them, how much can I expect realistically to make in 4 hours working part-time from Tuesday to Saturday?
Can someone please respond to this post.
Thank you,
Worried about future pay.... :( ...
So I've been a transcriptionist for 15 years, the last 8 years I've been self-employed, contracted to a local hospital (recently bought out by a bigger hospital), and several family practices and nursing homes. The hospital decided to oursource transcription to M*Modal, with each of us getting an "offer" from M*Modal (thus preventing the employed transcriptionists from being able to draw unemployment, nice). I accepted the offer while still looking into other jobs locally, ...
Did anyone see this episode a few days ago? Very interesting. I don't usually watch this, caught it by accident this time, but could we learn something about the Indian culture to help us get our jobs back??? Am I just dreaming or crazy? Still not back to normal after being forced out of my $20/hour job by NJA and min wage, now working at one of the big box stores for a little more, a lot of lifting, but can make it with partial unemployment. It's hard to start over at my age 60+ but I ...

We just found out our hospital jobs are being outsourced to Nuance. I am really worried. From the webinar we attended, Nuance said all the right things and it didn't sound too bad, but it sure doesn't mesh with what I'm reading here. We have to make a decision about whether to go with them or not by next week, and I don't feel like I have all the answers I need yet. I feel like I'm being pressured.
