If you are scheduled to work a holiday you must work it unless you have pre-approved PTO. So what happens when you run out of work as is common on a holiday and most especially the day following a holiday? What if you can't get your time in? Well, you don't get holiday pay unless you work you scheduled hours. Doesn't matter that you ran out of work and you can't control that. All you will get is pay for what lines you were able to get in that day-that's it. Wow!

I had to pay myself, use PTO, to be off T'giving. I was told Nuance does NOT pay holidays, you use your own PTO.

At least my old company actually paid base pay for holidays. This place sucks.

I agree, Nuance can find so many ways to cheat MTs.

If you take a vacation, of course you don't get in your expected hours or line count, so THEY TAKE AWAY YOUR BONUS FOR NOT MAKING THE MINIMUM LINE COUNT. Just like the holiday bonus, there is not going to be enough work on holidays to work before and after the holiday, thereby taking away HOLIDAY PAY.

Just b/c we have a job doesn't mean it is a good job nor does it mean that we are happy with our job. Personally, I am not making nearly what I was making years ago in the same profession. I am now struggling just to pay my regular monthly bills. Today I received a shut off notice for my electric bill b/c I am a month behind. Years ago, I didn't have that problem. I am working more hours a week and producing more lines per day than I was before and yet my paychecks are smaller than when I first started in the profession.

To say be thankful you have a job, are you also thankful that your employer cheats you out of your pay and treats you like your stupid and can't do your job. Are you happy to have a job that requires you to work on the holiday and then finds any reason possible to not compensate you for your work? Sorry, I just get so irritated when I hear be thankful you have a job. I am thankful I have a job, but I am NOT thankful that I am underemployed and thus I am now part of the working poor.

I totally agree with what you are saying. My income has gone down pretty close to a 50% of what I used to make when I started working for MM (then Medquist) 6 years ago. And like you, I'm working really hard and doing lots of lines, etc. It is so frustrating. I do totally understand!

and if there is no work to be able to work your full schedule, you are also aced out of your holiday pay. I ran out of work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, having maybe an hour each day of work. The pay period ended on Friday and therefore was no time to make up my hours, which I shouldn't have to do in the first place. I did not get my holiday pay. I also had a "nice" email that I didn't follow the out of work protocol and email everybody that I was out of work. I refuse to constantly check on work that is not there every hour and then waste my time some more to send you an email to the obvious. PAY ME FOR MY WORK!!!

I came in with one of the buyouts and have never seen this information about working holidays and needing to work full schedule to get the "holiday pay", tiny as it is. We have no employee handbook to refer to, just dribs and drabs of emails ad nauseum.. Do you folks have a handbook that spells all these "rules/procedures" out?

We were able to download it then, but they have changed so many things over the past several years that most of that does not apply and yes, I get drib and drab of email. I didn't know we had to email everytime we run out of work until this week and I have been here several years. The rule of working the day before has been there for a long time, though, but so has the fact we were supposed to get paid not only what we made in line production for the holiday we worked, but also a percentage of what we made over a certain time as our holiday pay. Apparently, that was changed and one email I didn't get-the fact that if you run out of work, you don't get paid-period-nothing extra-you have to either take it as TOWP or PTO to make up the difference-another email I received. It took me almost a month of asking over and over just to get an email of the updated full time versus part time benefits. I have a relative who is HR in a company they work for and according to my relative, by law employers are required to provide a handout, workbook, etc. of company rules and benefits to all employees when they are hired and when the handbook is updated. HA! That's laughable at Nuance as well as many other transcription companies. I so am looking forward to the day I can say goodbye to this industry. I loved it at first-not anymore.

I've been asking for this "handbook" since I started with this company a year ago! Keep getting the same answer, "we are currently updating our handbook and one will be mailed to you as soon as the updates are done." BS I say!

before the holiday and the day after the holiday. But these places actually paid to take the holiday off. I have worked several non-transcription jobs where it is also like this. If you want to take the day off and get paid for the holiday, you have to work the day before the holiday and the day after.

According to a poster below which has apparently already attended one of the payroll meetings (as the poster posted) for nuance they have decided to keep the incentive part of all of our pay going with an exception that now you have to have over the industry standard of 98% to get a production based incentive. In addition (if this poster is accurate) they have again cut the overall pay from 8 and 4 to 3 3/4 AND 7 1/2. This is nothing but a bunch of crapploa...an MT who is now getting ...

I thought they were 2 different services.  Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows.  All the small companies have been merged I guess.  I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR.  Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...

Does anyone know why the ad says "No inquiries from overseas" when they obviously offshore the work?  Anyone reading that would incorrectly assume they do not offshore.  I was reading an article in the newspaper that a journalist was talking about a few days ago regarding the hospital outsourcing to the Web/Nuance, and the spokesperson for the hospital said in the article that the company only employs US MTs.  ...

If Webmedx does away with or changes their recently advertised "PRODUCTION BASED INCENTIVE" bonus and adopts the Nuance quality based bonus then this change may be considered by quite a few WMX employees as yet another cut in pay. Is this true? Because if so that means they dont take into consideration years of experience, opportunity for increase or nothing. Seems kind of hard to work for an obviously big and successful company that is only willing to pay their employees 0.41 cpl and thats it, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I received an incentive bonus this paycheck (for the first time ever). My QA score was 99.3%. So, I get an email today from my supervisor that my latest audit was only 98.2% and they are going to reaudit me in 2 weeks to see if my score is improving or if I need further disciplinary action. WTF? I've been with Nuance for 3 years and think it's time to jump ship. This company is messed up, and the QA is so inconsistent. ...

In house just got outsourced to Nuance.  In our meeting, they said the PTO is 10 days total, which you have to use for holidays and sick time as well.  So, if you take all 6 holidays (if that is even possible), you get 4 days off a year?  Not even a week for vacation left over.  Someone asked if that changes with time of service and they said no, that will never go up.  ARE YOU KIDDING?  Is this what the rest of you get for PTO, or is this just something they have s ...

I have been with Nuance a few years.  I'm an MT.  I'm not the best MT out there, nor am I the worst.  I read the comments on these boards and my jaw is on the floor.  FYI, not everyone has the bad experiences that have been discussed on this site.  I can't account for the horrible things I hear people saying about Nuance, except to say if things are really that bad for you, maybe MT is not for you or Nuance is not a good fit for your career path. ...

I AM SO LIVID!  These QCs are unbelievable!  I used "and" instead of "the" and the QC marks me off for English misspelling/typo which is a 0.5 error instead of an English word misuse which is less at 0.25. Do you think "and" and "the" are typos?  I think not!  You see, this is evidence that they are being totally unfair and proof that they do not want anyone to make incentive!  This is my opinion!  Anything to bring your score down!  Man this pisses me off!&n ...

There is someone who claims to be a QC for Nuance and that they are only paid minimum wage for this position.  That is utter nonsense.  Why would any experienced MLS take a minimum wage job in the MT industry when you could make more than that on production easily.  If you are experienced enough to be in QC or QA then please don't lie to the rest of us and tell us that you only make minimum wage.   ...
