Has anyone heard about what will happen - on April 8, 2014?

I heard that there are approximately 500 billion XPs still in operation, way more than Microsoft estimated. Does anyone know if we're supposed to buy new PCs or if they'll be supplied? If we have to buy them, I'm toast. I frankly don't have the money and won't have it unless they give back what they stole.

Just don't forget to save your word expander!! I'd resigned from one of the biggies, came crawling back because I couldn't find another job, but they said now I needed more RAM. So I took it to my computer guy, and he said, "Want me to go ahead and put Windows 7 on it while I'm at it?" (I'd had XP). I said, "Sure," completely forgetting about Shorthand. After I got it back and realized it was gone (I did call him and, yes, it was really gone) I literally felt a little queasy. Make sure it's backed up in a way that is transferrable. I thought I had it, but it was not readable.

In answer to your question, by doing this (Installing Windows 7 on an XP computer), your entire system will be entirely wiped out. Hence, if it is your own personal computer and not a company computer and you have "pictures, important information, programs etc.), make sure that the .exe files are save either to a flash drive or an external hard drive. You can also purchase a transfer cable and transfer information from one computer to another, but again, this is more for transferring pictures, etc and not "program type files," where you need the .exe file. Either that or make sure you have the "program files" on the original CD but again, if you plan on doing this, remember that EVERYTHING will be wiped off your hard drive -- HTH

"EVERYTHING" will not be wiped off your hard drive.

Once the updgrade is done, on your C drive you'll have a file that says Windows.Old and it'll contain your files.

Either way, it's never a bad idea to back up any important files. I have my PC set to do this automatically on a regular basis. I purchased an external hard drive for a great price. I plug it in and let Windows do the work.

If you just want to back up your Shorthand file look for the .spf files in your Shorthand folder and copy them to a flash drive.

Is anyone having trouble renewing their license on Shorthand. I did it through Gmail last time and now they act like there is no such email address. I keep going round and round with this. I'm ready to scream.

I edited a report in which I changed leukoesterase to leuk esterase, however, when I went to upload, spellcheck found "leukoesterase" which no longer was visible in the report (at least not what was on my screen!). I went back in and deleted the whole word, then put it in again as two separate distinct words and that time, spellcheck accepted it. But what worries me is does this occur other times? I have never had this much trouble before doing my job. I will have 99% on those FIESA and then 1 report will be a C and my QA averages out to a "C" 99.3%. So, I NEED a job! I have one, but we are ALWAYS out of work and I need some supplemental income. Slowly they will transfer accounts, one by one, to India, starting with the easiest accounts/work types first. Soon we here in the US will be left with ONLY the bottom of the barrel indecipherable CRAP........which we will have to send to QA hence our pay will be practically reduced to what they pay for Indians to do the work. I rarely get complete mouth extraction reports, and when I do they usually have the same instruments used in them, but I have a burr that I am not familiar with. It sounds like crivet or cribet.
