Despise Nuance - Almost gone

Read the Nuance gibberish policies on computers telling us what to buy to maintain employment with Nuance if we have Windows XP. I have a company computer that was given to me by previous employer prior to Nuance buying them out. It has everything on it to work.

Now I am told that I need to purchase a new computer, new software and I need to purchase virus protection. I make approximately $12 an hour working on Nuance accounts. They want me to take out of pocket big bucks to replace computer etc and because of Fiesa QA nit picking my job is constantly up in the air and I could be fired on a QA whim.

I also resent being told to deal with Tiger Direct to buy a computer. Overall this company has less than stellar reviews. (http://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.tigerdirect.com) I have never heard of this company but if they are affiliated with Nuance I do not trust them. I think Nuance is shady because of Fiesa and other issues and by association I suspect Tiger Direct is shady as well.

Does anyone else have issues with purchasing new computer and software as well as virus protection to work for Nuance who I believe is hoping to replace MTs to replace with Indian MTs who work cheaper via underhanded tactics like Fiesa?

PS: EXTREMELY dislike Bill Gates for forcing millions of people to replace Microsoft Windows by withdrawing support for Windows XP. In today's economy many people simply can't afford this upgrade. This is Microsoft blackmail at this point. Upgrade and pay for another Microsoft product or else you get hackers or a virus.

I don't know if you realize it, but XP has been on the market for 18 years, you cannot expect Microsoft to stay in one place forever with regard to product development. Windows 95 and 98 also fell by the wayside long ago as you recall and were replaced by better products. We've known about this for at least 2 years, I replaced my PC when I heard about it. My XP box still works and is sitting in the corner, but time marches on. Trust me, Windows 7 is an improvement and you won't have to worry about worms, viruses and not being HIPAA compliant. New PCs are not that expensive if you don't choose the fastest processor or load it with expensive software. If you don't need to replace your monitor, that will also save you some money. I think Tiger Direct has some pretty good deals and they can probably set you up with a payment plan if you can't pay up front. I'm sorry you have to spend the money, but we do what we have to do.

If you have a Microcenter near you that's a great place to buy a computer. You can shop them on line if you don't have one near you.

If you need a new PC you might try Dell, but get one of their work place models, the Opti-something-or-other. The ones for just plain home use are not up to the task in my opinion.

Hopefully you are all using ergonomic keyboards. They are much easier on your hands and arms and take very little time to get used to. I find them to be faster too.

You can open up an account with them and I have bought several laptops from them and I think paid about $25/month. Pretty painless to apply for an account. Go to the their website and fill out the form. I hope that helps someone.

Personally, I think companies should always provide the computer and all software as it always work better.

I already knew from the dismal reviews of Windows 8 that I did NOT want it. When I went in to Best Buy simply to try out lots of laptops hands-on, I was also looking at Windows software, and saw no Windows 7. When I asked, they no longer carried it, and all their new computers had Windows 8 on them.

So I went to Amazon, where I was able to not only get a good price on a laptop, but also a laptop that already came with Windows 7 on it, which made the price even lower, since it was considered "obsolete" by techie standards.

The one time I bought a computer at a computer shop, I was totally ripped off by getting the worst one I've ever owned. Every time I went in for repairs on it, I was further ripped off. I finally went thru Amazon, got what i needed at the price I wanted, and from now on that's the only way I'll do it. Also, when I ordered through the shop, the computer took 3 weeks to arrive. When I ordered through Amazon, it arrived in 2 days.

$12.00 is not much at all and to have to pay for your own stuff to work. However, I have to say that $12.00 is still considerably more than $9.00/hour which is what I make. How many lines an hour do you edit? You must be pretty fast to even make $12.00/hour at Nuance.

So let me get this straight: I want to put a physician's name in the report. I hit CTRL + N and start typing the last name. Before, it was nice. The search would happen automatically. NOW I have to tell it to search (even for mandatory ADT names when you hit enter to get to the physician lookup)? Why? According to a poster below which has apparently already attended one of the payroll meetings (as the poster posted) for nuance they have decided to keep the incentive part of all of our pay going with an exception that now you have to have over the industry standard of 98% to get a production based incentive. In addition (if this poster is accurate) they have again cut the overall pay from 8 and 4 to 3 3/4 AND 7 1/2. This is nothing but a bunch of crapploa...an MT who is now getting ...

I thought they were 2 different services. Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows. All the small companies have been merged I guess. I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR. Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...

Does anyone know why the ad says "No inquiries from overseas" when they obviously offshore the work? Anyone reading that would incorrectly assume they do not offshore. If Webmedx does away with or changes their recently advertised "PRODUCTION BASED INCENTIVE" bonus and adopts the Nuance quality based bonus then this change may be considered by quite a few WMX employees as yet another cut in pay. Is this true? Because if so that means they dont take into consideration years of experience, opportunity for increase or nothing. Seems kind of hard to work for an obviously big and successful company that is only willing to pay their employees 0.41 cpl and thats it, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I received an incentive bonus this paycheck (for the first time ever). My QA score was 99.3%. So, I get an email today from my supervisor that my latest audit was only 98.2% and they are going to reaudit me in 2 weeks to see if my score is improving or if I need further disciplinary action. In house just got outsourced to Nuance. In our meeting, they said the PTO is 10 days total, which you have to use for holidays and sick time as well. So, if you take all 6 holidays (if that is even possible), you get 4 days off a year? Not even a week for vacation left over. I AM SO LIVID! These QCs are unbelievable! I used "and" instead of "the" and the QC marks me off for English misspelling/typo which is a 0.5 error instead of an English word misuse which is less at 0.25. There is someone who claims to be a QC for Nuance and that they are only paid minimum wage for this position. That is utter nonsense. Why would any experienced MLS take a minimum wage job in the MT industry when you could make more than that on production easily.
