Canadian Nuance MT - Erica
Posted: Sep 25, 2014
Hello,
I know this is an American forum however I'm hard pressed to find something similar for Canada. Are any active posters working for Nuance from Canada?

I'm not from Canada, just wanted to say "welcome".

Thanks! I recently started working for Nuance but it sounds like their Canadian branch is much different than state side. I love it so far, it's just alienating not having any co-workers.
Isn't your minimum wage much higher - Wage disparities

I didn't know Nuance had a Canadian branch. Are you typing American notes or Canadian ones? And are you working for production? If so, I'd be curious to see if it's comparable to what the American MT's make. I was always under the impression that Canada had a higher minimum wage, so if your pay isn't higher, is your minimum production through the roof?
Sorry to bombard with questions.
Min. Wage - Erica

I don't mind the questions at all, I don't know anyone that does MT locally so it's just nice to have a common ground, like I said, I find it quite alienating.
Minimum wage where I am locally is $10.40 and about to go up, but Nuance is paying me by the audio minute, $1.15/min for straight transcription and $0.575/min for VR editing. It's not great, but it's livable and it's worth it to be home with no set schedule.
The head quarters here is in Ontario, Canada and I transcribe for a Canadian hospital in the same province but I know they have a ton of others contracted to them, I think mostly Canadian.
My minimum production is 300 transcribed minutes/week, which is considered to be just less than part time, I went with that contract until I'm in a position to quit my other job, then I will be going full time which I think is 700 transcribed minutes/week.
Is it much different for an American MT?
A couple differences. sm - Weekender.

Speaking only for myself and the few MTs I know, we are paid for lines transcribed/edited, and we all have set schedules. The minimum is 7440 lines per week on my platform. Not sure if it is different on other platforms.
Paid by the line - Not by the digital minute

We are paid per 65-character line (with spaces) and generally at 8 CPL for straight transcription and 4 CPL for edit for clinic work, and 9 and 4.5 for acute care. There are shift differentials and "incentives" and such. Like Weekender said, most of us are required to do 7440 lines per week, at 40 hours, so 186 lines per hour.
I was paid digital minutes before this job, but at $2 US. Your $1.15 Canadian right now is just over $1.00 US (I think it's $1.03), so less than half. Wow. But I also had a 60 digital minute minimum for straight typing.
I always thought that 8/4 and 9/4.5 cpl was low, but now comparing what they pay in Canada per digital minute, that's insane! Granted, I'd make a LOT more (looking at the last couple days, I'd have made close to double what I'm making being paid per line, even at the Canadian wage), but still, Ontario is not a cheap place to live.
Of course, our Indian brothers and sisters are making closer to $2 an hour and work from a warehouse-type facility. But they're not typing Indian notes (well, they might be typing some Indian-American doctors, but US-based patients) they're typing US notes.
Hi! I'm from canada. Hope you dont mind having me peruse your boards. Unless there is a similar site for canadians? I haven't been able to find anything! ...
Can someone please explain to me why Canada is considered OFFSHORE? We have the same extremely strict confidentiality and medical data security laws and, in fact, tougher standards in the definitions with Independent Contractor versus employee status. Why is Canada considered offshore? It's not nearly like sending something to India or Pakistan where you don't know who is working on the dictation or what the ulterior purpose is. Why can't the two countries just get along? ...
I was just wondering if there are very many Canadian medical transcriptionists who visit this forum. In Canada we are not "certified" i.e. I took a six month course at college and have a certificate, but we do not have a professional organization as such. I wish we did!
Sometimes I can find a word here when asking the other girls in the office doesn't come up with any new ideas. ...
I am just looking for anyone from Canada who is working for this company. That is one of the things I don't like about M*Modal. You are an island working for the mainland. But there is no contact with any of the other islands. Also you can't actually see the mainland. You can only send mail to them. Sigh...I just want someone to talk to that works for this company so that we can give each other support etc. I am not sure why the company doesn't ...
I was just wondering if anyone knew of companies hiring Canadian MTs as independent contractors, and what their reputations are like. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! ...
I'm searching everywhere on web for info on the best recommended schools for Medical Transcription. Canscribe is said to be 'one of the best', however it's soooo expensive. Does anyone know a few other good schools recommended by AHDI ?

According to a poster below which has apparently already attended one of the payroll meetings (as the poster posted) for nuance they have decided to keep the incentive part of all of our pay going with an exception that now you have to have over the industry standard of 98% to get a production based incentive.
In addition (if this poster is accurate) they have again cut the overall pay from 8 and 4 to 3 3/4 AND 7 1/2. This is nothing but a bunch of crapploa...an MT who is now getting ...
that fall during the shift. For example, if half of your hours fall in 3rd shift and half fall in 1st shift, do the 3rd shift hours pay more cpl? Or, do all hours have to fall within the shift to qualify?
Thanks,
Yet another sad Transcend employee... ...
I thought they were 2 different services. Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows. All the small companies have been merged I guess. I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR. Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...
Does anyone know why the ad says "No inquiries from overseas" when they obviously offshore the work? Anyone reading that would incorrectly assume they do not offshore. I was reading an article in the newspaper that a journalist was talking about a few days ago regarding the hospital outsourcing to the Web/Nuance, and the spokesperson for the hospital said in the article that the company only employs US MTs. ...
The ad Nuance has up says increased PTO. Anyone willing to tell me what it is now.
Also information on their bonus program would be helpful.
Thank you. ...
....First send us an email with fabulous Nuance ins (bad news) because they had to announce that due to open season. However at the same time telling us that the new pay structure (probably more bad news) will be announced at a later date but will be effective Jan 1 2012. Good way to keep us hanging on while they are so behind with their horrid platform.
Guess what Nuance/Nuisance, it will not work as your reputation has gone from bad to worse and we are now realizing that the We ...
If Webmedx does away with or changes their recently advertised "PRODUCTION BASED INCENTIVE" bonus and adopts the Nuance quality based bonus then this change may be considered by quite a few WMX employees as yet another cut in pay. I’m sure that there are quite a few MT’s currently at WMX that have a high QA average and are earning $300-$400 (some even more) in production incentive pay each pay period, which equates to $600-$800 per month.
As an example, acco ...
Is there a specific QA staff? I was under the impression that the team managers did most of the QA. Is that correct? Or how is the QA done? Someone said below that QA is paid hourly; I was under the impression it was cpl.
Any info on QA structure for Nuance would be helpful. Thanks in advance. ...
I have an interview this week with Nuance. Any advice on what to expect? I'm interviewing for an MT job and have been reading some posts on here about the company and it's not looking good. ...
Had our usual update this morning from my AM, one of the best IMO and the reason many of us stayed after Nuance took over. Then at 1:30 an e-mail that he is no longer with the company??? What is going on??? Â (DO) ...
Can anyone help me with instructions on how to create a new entry in the carbon copy? I am getting lots of dictations where I can't find that particular physician in the CC list and need to create a new one. I am new and need help. Thanks in advance! ...
Is this true? Because if so that means they dont take into consideration years of experience, opportunity for increase or nothing.
Seems kind of hard to work for an obviously big and successful company that is only willing to pay their employees 0.41 cpl and thats it, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I mean they dont come off to be the type of company that "cant" afford to give increases in pay to their transcriptionist.
I heard that if you work from 10pm to 6pm you can make 0.46 cpl, bet ...
Anyone willing to share how much per line they make with VR or straight transcription? Or any information how the company is with raises? Thank you ...
I received an incentive bonus this paycheck (for the first time ever). My QA score was 99.3%. So, I get an email today from my supervisor that my latest audit was only 98.2% and they are going to reaudit me in 2 weeks to see if my score is improving or if I need further disciplinary action. WTF? I've been with Nuance for 3 years and think it's time to jump ship. This company is messed up, and the QA is so inconsistent. ...
Nuance servers were down all day yesterday as well as Transcend servers? Really? We were told in an email it had nothing to do with Nuance. That's quite a coincidence, don't ya think? Oh gosh, I sure hope this doesn't indicate the way things are going to go in the future with Nuance. Does this happen often there? ...
