A doctor just dictated the following: - see msg

Posted: Mar 07, 2015

"I instructed the overnight ER resident to place a Foley; that was not placed and this morning the patient was incontinent of urine"  He goes on to describe his disappointed in how neglectful this was, etc.... which it WAS, but humans make mistakes.....

So, do you think that resident got his pay cut by 1000 dollars for that (I'm making it relative).....I HIGHLY DOUBT IT!!!!

Shoot, this could be a really good way hospitals could save money!!  By counting on the inevitable mistakes that will be made and using it to cut salaries.  Just think of all the money that could be saved this way.  SOUND like someone we all know and DESPISE?

That wouldn't be stood for by the residents, and as well it shouldn't be.  But us lowly MTs.....another story.

You have hit on exactly the worst thing - Nuance has inflicted on us

[ In Reply To ..]
It has really become the most insufferable part of our job - to have our pay docked for minor (not even major, like the resident's) mistakes and to not know what we are making week to week.

I cannot think of one other job that has that attached to it, neither low level or high level jobs.

We are somehow accountable for every last little character of every report and get docked accordingly, yet CEOs of big corporations (including Nuance) can make losses and they still get great whopping bonuses.

Your point is well made by the comparison. If there is anything that should have a legal question, it is Nuance's right to dock our pay for mistakes, no matter how minor, and if they are allowed to do this, they should have to let us know what percentage of us are getting what pay.

I think if there were transparency, we would all realize that it's a complete and total sham, that very few, if any, people make the upper lph and that most of us are down where they have (without having to admit it) cut our pay to.

Disgusting.

starting off the pay week - newbutold

First report was a 19 line report and they changed an adverb. There goes my percentage right off the bat. Fire me now if you must. I will not sign anything when threatened. I am making copies of everything as was advised by the unemployment office who I went and sat down with here locally and had a heart to heart with someone there who told me what I needed to declare unemployment and fight them which is every single email they send basically and what I cannot copy and paste I use my good old cell phone and take a picture right off my computer and save it that way. That was advised to me by the unemployment office. Just the fact that some things they won't let us forward, copy or paste is a huge red flag to them she said.

Nuance seems to operate with impunity. I am sort of - amazed at the unethical...

downright illegal actions, not only with regard to secrets, lies to employees, wage theft, etc., but especially with regard to holding mid level managers accountable for actions that could land them so squarely in the middle of civil suits. Surprising to me their own attorneys aren't forcing the company to change its ways. I hope to live long enough to participate in THAT class action. I print everything and cross my fingers.

Have you tried dl'ing the email client Thunderbird? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
It can be set up to get your Webclient email which then resides on your hard drive. You probably still can't forward, etc, from it, but it's on YOUR drive then and you can screen print to your heart's desire.

Nuance - What?

[ In Reply To ..]
Nuance didn't have anything to do with the resident''s mistake, I don't undrestand why you think it's their fault. The facility could face legal action over something like that, but it doesn't have anything to do with you or Nuance. It shows that everyone messes up but I really don't understand the comparison.
The comparison is if that hospital treated - residents like Nuance treats MTs
[ In Reply To ..]
He WOULD be docked pay for making a mistake.

Why are we getting our pay docked for making minuscule mistakes and nobody else in any other job ever gets their pay docked?

That's what I believe is the point of the comparison, not that Nuance has anything to do with the resident at all, but that they are treating us grossly unfairly by picking through our work and using mistakes to dock our pay.

Just to note I am not the OP, so that's just my opinion of what she was trying to say.

It would be wonderful if their pay was docked for their screwups. - Someone could get rich fast doing that.

Too many to count, Nuance's I mean.

Overheard A Doctor Telling Another Doctor...

20 years ago when the DRG's hit the hospitals, one  was complaing to the other... "they treat doctors like a bunch of old dogs now".  Well, that's how  MTs are being treated now.  Why on God's green earth do the MT services require all MT's to work at least one weekend day every week (Friday's and Monday's  don't count). Every ad I see on the Job Seeker board requires weekends.  Are they sadistic or something.  Why do we put u ...

Should We Change The Dictated Layout Of The Report?
Dec 27, 2011

This seems crazy asking this while taking the final exam, but this layout seems spitefully incorrect. A few chapters back, it stated "going forward with the course, transcribe the report layout exactly how the dr. dictates it". In this final exam, its an operative report and she has the pre-op and post-op diagnosis' at the end of the report! Should I put them at the beginning where they have been with all the other reports we were given? So confused! ...
