I was informed that some companies will train you, or fund your education, and then you work for them. Is this true? What are the companies? I am really interested in becoming a MT.

What are the reasons that you are interested in becoming an MT? If it is just because you think you can get a job right away and work from home, you really should check into it a little more. There is a lote more to being an MT than working at home, and it takes a lot longer than you would think to go through an accredited MT school. Then the application process for a newgrad is quite rigorous and lengthy as well. You MUST be proficient in spelling, grammar rules, and typing before you even start taking classes. Classes from an accredited school are not cheap, and it is very hard to find a job right now that even HIRES new MTs, much less trains one. Some employers do have an expense program that pays for you to become an either registered or certified MT, but as far as paying for you to go to school, you can forget it.

Hey Jes! Cool that your intestested in this field, but there aren't a lot of companies that will train or fund your education like there used to be. Mostly that was when there were in house or in clinic transcriptionists, and those days are mostly gone.

Most of us telecommunte, work at home. We are either "old timers", those were were fortunate enough to work in hospitals, clinics...or newbies, graduates from the many MT programs out there.

MT is not what it used to be, but if you're really interested, there are good paying jobs still.

The "heads up" is that like so many US jobs, this job has recently been outsourced and our wages have plummeted. If you can get in with a US company that is staunchly opposed to outsourcing (doubtful...) you'll be better off. As to who those companies are, I'm not sure.

Do some intense research on that for yourself.

I personally LOVE it and have been fortunate enough to have worked in a hospital and now at home. My salary has remained consistent and I still think it's a wonderful profession. â�º

Read the different sections of this board. MTs are on the way out. I'm not trying to be mean or ugly, but please find another profession. No one is going to pay you to learn this, that's a laugh. MTs are going to be on the outs soon.

If I were younger and wanted to start out in this profession.....I'd do PT.

Jessica, as far as I know there are no LEGIT companies that will do this. Why should they go to that expense when there is an abundance of experienced MTs out of work and willing to work for less than they are worth? Please don't get sucked into one of the many scams that are going around out there.

I need some advice. I have been an MT for about six years now. I have worked for this specific company for about a year now. I'm having trouble with a report with some radiology terms. My question is: Is the word I am typing "hyper-avid" an actual term that makes sense in this sentence?
