Advice needed! - CEP
Posted: Jan 09, 2015
I need some advice. I have been an MT for about six years now. I have worked for this specific company for about a year now. I will get feedback from QA (not the clients) that I know is incorrect, per BOS standards incorrect, nothing to do with account specifics. Examples, x5 changed to x 5 (CABG x5), patient named being changed in the body of report to the wrong spelling, abbreviations changed that end up making no sense, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus changed to non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, etc. I haven’t said anything, wondering if maybe I was wrong or something had changed in the “rules,” and I do not want to make trouble for myself because I definitely need my job. These reports are being sent to the client, and it makes me look as if I am not doing my job the way it is supposed to be done. I don’t get reprimanded for these changes, but I personally still think it makes me look bad as a transcriptionist. Has anyone else ever had these issues? What should I do?

What can you do? I would say nothing except quit when it bothers you too much but I wouldn't let it. Decent jobs are too hard to come by. Just chalk it up to, well, that's QA, if you're sure you typed it right. Maybe, if this is something new, they hired a new QA person (who must be off QA, herself, now).
Usually, your employer's client isn't too aware of you, personally, you're just some nameless, faceless transcriptionist. The MTSO is your boss, I guess you just have to do it their way. And if QA is messing up maybe someone at the company will catch it. Is there anything you can do to document what you type has been changed if QA isn't sending you a notice when it's changed?
I usually just type the patient in the body of the report, never the name.
If QA has nothing better to do, like typing reports on their down time, this is the way it's going to be.
Well - see msg

I used to just write to my supe or QA supe and ask for clarification. At least it's in writing that you know it's incorrect.
I wouldn't worry about the hyphen thing---I ended up not using more than one hyphen as a modifier. I just don't like the way it looks, and nobody said boo to me.
If you aren't getting penalized on an audit, I wouldn't worry. The patient thing is a big issue.
Depending on the transcription software you're using, the people who matter can see who changed what. And your audits are done on PRE-QA'd reports.
Remember that QA people were at one time just normal MTs and have had all sorts of inconsistent feedback themselves. It's frustrating, but as a very wise QA Supervisor said to me once, just laugh when you know you are right and they correct you. You will drive yourself nuts otherwise.
Meanwhile (and I say this to everyone here) work towards getting out of the biz. The above stuff is actually the least of your MT troubles now.
Good luck!
Agree with that advice - Sm

I agree. No one knows who you are, do they? They can't associate it with you.
Even if they could, half of them think what you type is wrong anyway because what they think is correct is not.
That is, in fact, the very reason that most folks are not bothered by the mess SR produces. They, themselves, write just like that.
I agree with the above poster ... this is the least of your worries right now. You need to focus your attention on getting out of MT.

I've been on 100% QA for failing my audit. Yesterday I was being audited again, was aware of it and was working e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y carefully, very conscious and aware of everything I was doing. My production was down a bit, but my accuracy was spot on!
As we all know, they audit 5 reports and average out the score. My accuracy was 9 ...
