I recently got my notice from my QA person that I was below the standard at 99.2% and that should be looking at things in the near future. Well, I guess today is my day. Each time I check my line count, I am met with a corrected report in my queue.

I do not claim to be perfect. However, when I have to slow the audio down to a snail's pace just to try and decipher IF there are words being spoken, let alone WHAT words are being spoken, please do not come at me with the nit-picking.

Looks like it is time to revise my resume as I will probably be out of here soon.

99.2? I thought we had to get 99.5 or better? Has someone - changed it?

yes...we are required to be 99.5 or 99.6, whichever they have decided these days. I was told I was below that standard at 99.2 and that I would be audited in the near future.

I was recently audited and came in at 99.6%. You can never win with this company and their minions giving you contradictory advise and info and somehow submit coherent reports, all the while having to deal with the BS that comes with dealing with doctors with foreign accents, American doctors who mumble, the endless quality issues with the dictations themselves, not to mention the paltry paycheck that comes with doing this crappy job. If I was more well compensated for what I have to deal with day in and day out, I wouldn't mind it as much.

I've only been at this job for 8 months, and I've already revamped my resume and have it circulating online and elsewhere.

Man oh man, hindsight is 20/20 and if I had taken UE at the time the hospital I worked for was laying us off as opposed to taking MM's job offer, I would have DEFINITELY been better off.

Fighting cancer and subsequently losing a limb was a cake walk and less stressful compared to what I do for 8 hours these days.

Don't necessarily hang in there specifically with MModal if you get a choice:) If I could afford a new education I would be back in college tomorrow and in a totally different field next week. Regardless, I think I'm gonna go look for a job at a hospital when I move in a couple months. Might have to settle for lower pay and a tiny bankruptcy, but the stress relief will probably add another 20 years to my life.

Anyway, just wanted to say that I'm rooting for you either way and that I've been there before. The nitpicking is crazy. They never give the doctors feedback. I've complained about hundreds of dictators over the many years and only ever saw two improve and it was probably a coincidence. They don't open their mouths, speak English (even the English as first language doctors), enunciate, make any sense, etc. We have to do 99.6% accuracy because the doctors can only manage the other 0.4%! When I started the accuracy was 96%. No one imploded.

I have one idiot who dictates 35-65 minute long reports that I get 60-80 lines for because he has to shuffle through papers. The worst part is that he's not just slow, but he's a complete idiot. Every time you finish a report of his if you really read it, you can see that he didn't do anything. He just reviewed the whole patient's chart and re-dictated it, then refers him to a doctor of the same specialty to do his job for him.

His recommendations section usually includes:
"I don't know what's wrong."
"I don't understand what happened."
"I can't find that one report from 1973 about his stubbed toe, so I can't say whether he has pneumoconiosis."
"I can't say whether he has lung infiltrates because I forgot to order any tests. Please order those tests."

With stupid on this level, who always gets the feedback and criticism? Us.

So, I hope you're audit goes well, but regardless, remember it doesn't reflect on you. I've been through a couple in the past myself.

It is so amazing that MM refuses to acknowledge "garbage in, garbage out." I guess as long as there is a transcriptionist to blame, why bother?

But seriously, have you looked into your local community college? It costs $46/ unit here (Riverside, CA). It wouldn't take a fortune to get a new direction or to play with an interest. I took acting last semester and am taking microbiology this semester. The long goal was x-ray tech, but I always wanted to take acting and find out if I could memorize a bunch of lines. I memorized about three paragraphs, which was what I needed to do. I bet you would love to write -- you have a nice voice in this post. "No one imploded." Ha ha.

Our community college costs $3000-$4000 per semester... They used to be affordable.

Yeah, they really don't get it.

That's so cool taking acting and microbiology. Very disparate classes, but I'm sure both were pretty interesting. Acting would be fun to take, especially if you're braver than me about public speaking:)

I'm actually writing a novel at the moment. Becoming a writer has been my dream since I was a little kid. Never seem to have the time to get much done though. I work 3 jobs, so finding the time is always tough, but I'm trying to stick to it now. I wrote a novel before, but I didn't feel it was good enough to publish. It did get great early reviews though. My mom, my aunt and my ex-girlfriend (we weren't exes at the time) loved it, and my best friend said "Not my thing, but they'll publish anything these days." With friends like these LOL...

Hehe, no, but I have had doctors ask me to carry out tasks for them. One dictator asked "Can you run this across the street to [another campus], typist?" Yeah, as soon as you hang up, I can come out of the magic talking box and get right on that. Idiots LOL.

You could check out Meet-Ups for writers in your area. I know there is a "novel in a month" online group. You'd have to google that -- I don't have the exact name. Even if playing with your novel doesn't pay off in the long it, it would nourish your creative energy. Transcription is, in reality, "illiterates talking," and they're "always right" which is enough to shrivel any thinking person's brain.

My score was 96.6. All the reports docked were ASR reports, missing a few things here and there like leaving in oven instead of correcting to even - well, you get the gist. There were no critical mistakes. Not once, in all my years working for hospitals or doctors have I had an aduit. I got 2 ASR audits lately. Is everyone getting them? I only do about 50 ASR reports a month and they seem to think I use my mouse too much. I am dangernous with short-cut keys. I tend to not stop to think and hit the wrong key and something goes whacky. I always know where my mouse is! Anyway, we run out of work at least 3 nights a week. Last audit was 99.4 something percent accuracy. LPH was about 265. But oh, too many of my reports are sent in with blanks (worst accounts I have ever worked on) and I need to send more work to QA. Do they really think I am going to sit here and do this crap for 3 cpl? It would not even pay my utility bill. Think they will ever face reality? ...

Does anyone know the rules for placing an MT on 100% audit. Do you have to fail 2 audits in a row or just 2 audits. I failed in Feb, passed in March and will probably fail in April. The point system is whacked in my opinion, but my opinion doesn't really count. It is probably listed somewhere on MQ Central but I find navigating that system is somewhat like navigating a maze. So, I failed another "audit". I have to bounce back and forth between at least 10 accounts, therefore 10 different client profiles AND have to keep up with the ever changing QA preference of the day! last week and that is all that were done. Score 97.8. :( I don't agree with the errors but what can you do. So, out of the approx 40 plus reports I did per day last week, only THREE were audited and that will cause me to fail my audit? I haven't heard from anyone about this yet--could that mean that they are not done and will audit more reports? I hope so, because then my score will probably go up as those 3 reports were unfamiliar accounts, ESLs...... ...
