Would like to compare notes with others new to MQ, - sc

Posted: Apr 16, 2011

especially if you're on a southwestern account and doing editing for the first time.   I started with MQ last month and feel very discouraged, mainly for all the minor negative feedback I'm getting.  I'd like to know how the other new employees are doing so I can get a sense of where I stand.  I keep thinking any day now I'll get a notice I'm fired.   Email me directly and dish it out.

That's how MTSOs keep their MTs' wages down... - keep telling them theyre not donig well - sm

are making too many mistakes, etc. And just to mix things up a little bit and make sure no one gets comfortable, they change the account specifications constantly, add more and more annoying little details about each account that has absolutely NOTHING to do with patient care, or quality of transcription. Then, they either switch you from acccount to account, or give you so many accounts that you can't possibly remember all the details, or that there are even details to look up. (IF you can even find them, in the reams upon reams of printed material you must slog through each time you need to look up an account detail.)

That's how they keep us all doubting ourselves, doubting our ability, fearing termination every time we send in a blank to QA. That, and then overstaffing so we're all preoccupied with scrambling for work, keeps us thinking how "lucky" we are to be scraping by on what they pay.

Don't forget that they tell you about the - people who are averaging

I worked for them before and hated it then and came back in desperation when yet another job went to VR and the company went under. It's even worse now because I'm doing at least 90% editing on a terrible account that requires me to retype nearly entire reports. Then, of course, there are the MMEs, all of whom do things differently so I get contradictory feedback every day. The QA tells everyone not to be frustrated because there's more than one way to do things and they can both be right. Well, if that's the case, why nitpick about it?

I've never worked so hard for so little money in 30 years of being an MT. If they don't zap every bit of confidence you have, they apparently don't feel like they're doing their jobs.

To answer your question, I'm sure there are very few (if any) new MTs who don't expect to be fired any minute.

Anyone Able To Compare Nuance/Softscript
Feb 12, 2014

Nuance Fiesa is about to drive me insane.  0.25 deduction for not putting a period in.  REALLY????  I will contest it, but hate the amount of time we have to spend defending ourselves against this crappy QA system. Thinking about SoftScript.  Anyone able to compare how their QA stands next to Nuance.  Any info for comparison purposes welcome.  I realize there is no such thing as a perfect company, but...  Thanks. ...

Wanting To Compare Contractor Rates
Jun 20, 2012

I'm seeing pay rates all over the place on this board and I'm just curious as to what others are receiving. I'm an independent contractor. I have a lot of psychiatric accounts but they only pay 10 cents a line (65 characters, of course).  That's a decrease from my standard rate a few years ago (but supply and demand made me reduce my rate).  Because I'm a fast typist and the psychiatric work is easy, I easly make $30 an hour when I'm focused.I've ...

EditScript Vs. M*Modal For Editing. Anybody Used Both And Can Compare?
Nov 28, 2012

I've been on EditScript for a while now and was looking for another position using the same platform but elsewhere.  I have a lead that is M*Modal, though (they used to use EditScript), and even the recruiter admitted that of those who've done both, most prefer EditScript.  But I'm thinking that with a smaller company where there aren't so many cooks in the kitchen it might even out to be about the same in terms of quality anyway?  Or maybe I'll just be on ...

Compare Company Line Rates (sm)
Apr 03, 2014

Can we post line rates quoted to experienced MTs this year?  I think many of us do not wish to waste applying and testing for a company that is reducing the line rate AGAIN to only .03 cpl.  If anyone was offered less than .04/.08, did you turn it down? Did they offer more? Name of company? Thanks for any input.  ...

Can Someone Compare Andrews To AHIMA Basic Coding Course?
Feb 07, 2013

they call this a 12-course basics.  it says 2000, plus you need an additional 290 +225 for the required anatomy and physiology course, which you must at least get a C before you can proceed with the coding.  they also suggest 35 a year for becoming a member.  books are also a lot extra, looks like.   says 4 clusters of 15-week courses, that is 60 weeks, yes?   anyone have experience with this course?  call me gun-shy, but this is the organization who threw MT unde ...

HELP!! My QA Notes Are Not Going Through!
Mar 29, 2010

I just got another email from my QA super saying that I should have left a QA note for a report, however I did. This is the third time this has happened to me. I have called support and they say there is nothing wrong, but I only work 3 hours a day (other full time job during the day) so I remember the reports that I type. Is this happening to anyone else? I've am already on probation and this isn't going to look good obviously, but I don't want to sound like I am making ...

Op Notes
Apr 19, 2010

When everything after heading is numbers (such as IV FLUIDS 1500 ml, EBL 2000 ml, etc.), do you spell out fifteen hundred milliliters and two thousand milliliters?  That is how I interpret the rule of not starting a sentence with numerals, but it really does cloudy the waters and make the op note less easy to read.  ...

QUESTION ABOUT OP NOTES Sm
May 24, 2010

I used to specialize in op notes but for the past 3 years I have not found a company where I could solely specialize in op notes so I have kinda gotten rusty.  What I have noticed in the past 3 years is the few op notes that have come my way are by the worst ESL dictators.  Is this a trend in op notes now? Does it seem that they are done mostly by ESLs?  I was just curious as to other MTs recent experience with op notes, especially those who work is mostly op n ...

Pend Notes, Etc. How Far Do You Go?
Dec 05, 2013

Did anyone else get the speech again about pend notes being too long? I can understand why they want us to be "professional" about it but if there is an ODD problem (and there always is!), how am I supposed to tell them? Today, it said referring physician was Alan so-and-so, so, there was no ALAN So and so in the list so, I had to leave a blank BUT, the HPI mentions Albert So and So. Um.... okay, but still no Albert so and so.... Then, back to Alan, so and so, then at the end, copy to Albert ...

Clinic Notes = No Money?
Apr 16, 2010

I lost my primary accounts recently and was switched to an account where most of the jobs are really short clinic-type notes (less than a minute).  This pay period, my paycheck will be over $200 less than it was when I had my primary accounts, and I'm barely making my minimum line counts.  I've been doing this job for a long time and have always had really good line counts before.  I've been feely really down in the dumps like maybe I've just kind of lost ...

Question To Those Of You Who Do Clinic Notes...
Jul 28, 2011

Has anyone started to get more work in the last year (in a clinic setting)?
