What does the R stand for in front of the Job #? - Curious MT
Posted: Mar 16, 2011
Hi -
Had 2 transcriptions from a new hospital, and both had an R encased in a box in front of the internal job number. Anyone know what this means?
TIA

The ones that I get indicate that job is from a Rehab facility (R for rehab), so that way I know which templates, standards and such to use.

The R is for reserved. If you ever exit DQS before sending a job because of a power failure, DQS going down, etc., when you log back in the job you were doing will come up with an R before it. That means it is reserved for you. Sometimes jobs get sent specifically to people. If you are doing a new account, they may only be sending jobs to a few specific people to work on.

R stands for reserved, not Rehab! I get jobs "reserved" especially for me, especially on a couple of specific accounts, because I actually used to work for those facilities, know their difficult dictators like the back of my hand and my CCM and MQ know that. Most of my afternoon jobs are R jobs.

My old CCM said they reserve jobs for specific transcriptionists after they are tossed back (abandoned) too many times by others. Don't know if that is the only reason they reserve, but it was a big one at my last post. I usually cringe when I see reserved, because it is usually not good dictation.
In my experience, I've been audited on the reserved jobs so - be careful!

I treat them as any other job. R means reserved, like Lady Xanax said. This is also my experience, jobs reserved specifically for me for experience or knowledge of account. Not to be audited on.
Thanks for the Info - Curious MT

Thanks, everyone, for the information. You're right,A-1 Typist -- the jobs were ghastly. I, too, cringe when I see a transcription job -- 9 times out of 10 they are going to be a bad dictation.
Here's my observation for a Sunday for what that's worth
No matter what aspect of Nuance you work in, be it MLS OR QC, you are never good enough, never fast enough, never perfect enough, you are not the mind reader they had hoped they had hired. If you pore over a job to leave fewer blanks, you are too slow. If you try to meet production, you leave too many blanks. Oh, and don't try to point out errors on the account specifics cuz chances are they will never g ...
Hospital where I worked before being outsourced kept a friend of mine on for QA. Now they don't outsource at all. Using a program like Dragon and the doctor dictating has to edit his own report. And QA is auditing the doctors! If the report is not accurate, the doctor is written up. No more blaming the MT for their mistake. ...
are the lucky ones. (see below threads) I have received emails of many being just laid off without warning and MAYBE a week's notice. Take this as a warning people! We work at home and don't know what is going on until it is too late-except for MT STARS. GET IT? ...
I agreed to do some work in coverage for someone and the doctor sent files directly. He uses an Olympus recorder that uploads on AS-4000 Pro Player platform. Once uploaded, it sends each voice file out by encrypted email. So I got the .dss file but it comes as
.$dss
In addition to the voice file, there is an .html file that contains the header information for the recording.
I downloaded the DSS Lite Player, but it doesn't recognize the file. Before I start d ...
Thanks for letting me know about having to pay up front to train in Jersey! I wouldn't even do that if we had the money when you don't know how awful of an account you may get or horrible platform. I was just getting ready to test. Thanks for the info! ...
This article was from July, I just found it. It may have been addressed back then, and if so I missed it. Here is one part of the article:
"Currently in use at several Webmedx customer sites, the ability for physicians to capture documentation using front-end voice recognition and then self-edit their work reduces costs by 60% for every transcribed report."
This is the link to the article: http://www.healthcareitnews.com/press-release/webmedx-presents-award-providers-front-end-speech-implem ...
I'm a former MT who decided I couldn't live "peaceably" with VR (LOL) and left MT a few months ago. I've had some trouble finding a job outside of MT since then, though. I'm willing to branch out, but I suspect that after many, many years of doing MT, some employers aren't willing to take a chance that I'd be happy long-term in a less-challenging job. (The applications I most often get a response from are medical-type jobs.) Maybe they'r ...

I know supervisors are overworked also in this field, but I wish supervisors would stand up for their workers. Start communicating w/your MTs/Editors and Go to your higher ups and enlighten them on a few things - simply relay information to them but first you have to get it. It would benefit us both greatly.
Everywhere I have worked, supervisors only communicate 1-way. They don't seek input, return e-mails, etc. I guess if your at home your out-of-site and ...
look it up again. Seems it has disappeared from the top of the MQ thread? Maybe the program ended?
I'm wondering what the requirements are? I'm sure you can't quit and receive benefits. But what about being fired?

I know the job market for MTs is not like it used to be, but I am an ex hospital employee who lost her job to the big NuISance, too. If they continue to get good MTs for a pittance, they'll keep up their monopolystic tactics. In the time I worked for them, they ate up Transcend, WebMedEx, and Accentus (which was about the last company offering decent benefits, based in Canada). If they can't get good MTs, they'll have to mend their ways, but as long as their door keeps revolving, ...
I think every MT who is subjected to sitting and waiting for work that is not there should be paid for stand-by time. Who do these criminals think they are that they can continue to use people like pawns. If absolutely everybody would submit an invoice for all the idle hours spent waiting for work, it would bankrupt them. ...
Without us VR is worthless. We are valuable and deserve to be respected for our knowledge, talent, and experience and compensated fairly for this. The powers that be will succeed in cheating us of our ability to provide for families and our dignity, if we allow it. I am going back to school and getting out of it altogether after 23 years. I see no other way. Any suggestions?

What has happened to us as an MT community. Whenever someone speaks up with anything negative (but factual) about this so-called profession, there is always someone there to belittle the person, or give the old (my personal favorite) just shut up, take it, and LOVE it attitude.
We have absolutely NO POWER left whatsoever? Is this true? Can this be - in our great country - are we just lying down and accepting all that is happening. We are allowing ourselves to go ba ...
