Rates are a pleasant surprise.
Spousal Penalty - chillywinter
[ In Reply To ..]
Did spousal/partner penalty go up more than the $100/month we are currently paying?
Nope same $100. Increases overall are minimal - especially in comparison with other companies
[ In Reply To ..]

Agree but with no raise in over 10 years every healthcare increase is a paycut - just saying
[ In Reply To ..]
I will be taking another $150 a month pay cut come January just to keep the same insurance with a higher deductible and out of pocket maximum. I already do over 300 lph and am maxed out on my tier so I don't know how to make up that extra money. It's not like the company offers bonuses or incentives anymore and we are still being paid on 2006 tier rates.
Can someone please tell me what a "spousal penalty" is? - nm

Spousal penalty - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
most companies charge 50 bucks per 2 wk paycheck (100/mo) if you have your spouse insured on your policy IF they qualify for insurance through their company. I am on my husbands through his company, so its 100 extra a month. How they get away with that is beyond me, but all companies seem to be doing that.
How would they find out that you have insurance - at your workplace?

When he accepted the insurance - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
there was some sort of language attached that indicated if you were not forthright in the information you provided, you would be denied the insurance and/or any claims submitted. Same thing for smokers. They made them say they were taking smoking cessation measures or they were going to pay an extra premium, and they would be subjected to nicotine testing.
Okay, thank you for answering. That is ridiculous... - nm

This is the reason - chillywinter

You have Obamacare to thank for the spousal penalty.
I think that is a little confusing - I understand it
[ In Reply To ..]
You can take your employer's insurance if you want it, but you choose to go under your husband's policy, so your husband's company is charging your husband the extra $100, correct? Your husband must have better coverage for the money, or you would not do that, right?
I found this on hubby's policy info: "If an employee's husband or wife has access to health insurance through their own job but refuses it to be added to his or her spouse's plan, a surcharge will be added."
This is private employer's insurance, not Obamacare.
Yes, his is better - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
and costs less for now even with the surcharge, but premiums go up over the next 3 remaining years of his union contract. So, might end up insuring just me next year on MModal and keep the family on his.
It's not confusing at all...read this. - chillywinter
[ In Reply To ..]
The reason we have to pay the "penalty" surcharge through our PRIVATE employer's insurance now is BECAUSE of Obamacare...not talking about people who are insured under the ACA. Everyone now HAS to be insured, and if you decide to forego either private or ACA, you can take it up with the IRS and THEY will charge you the penalty.
I understand your agenda perfectly. - Already covered.-nm
[ In Reply To ..]
affordable? are you kidding me? It would be 660 a month for us - spousal surcharge is unconscionable
[ In Reply To ..]
I will have to stay with my spouse's horrible insurance, which is a large factor in my filing chapter 7.
Raised the specialist co-pay - the ER co-pay
[ In Reply To ..]
$1000 deductible. Plus raised the brand name Rx. Bites the Big One
At Nuance our rates are more than that every - 2 weeks. Count your blessings.
[ In Reply To ..]
We don't have copays either. It's deductible until anything is covered. As you can imagine, if you have a family you can't afford it with Nuance plan. I'm just amazed at the difference in cost.
Rates are great! As long as you don't - get sick
[ In Reply To ..]
ER deductible doubled, as did the annual deductible, and out of pocket expenses went through the roof. Plus the new prescription benefit with 4 tiers is unfortunate since one of my medications is in that 4th tier.
I really miss the "employee and child" option that seemed to unfortunately disappear last year when my oldest got his own insurance.
All in all, I'm happy with the plan...just nobody get hurt or sick!
Mom, can our neighbor teach me how to use a skill saw? No!! Mom, can I hang this really heavy picture over my bed? No! Mom, I learned online how to sharpen knives. I'm going to sharpen your knives for your birthday. Nope!! And if your face freezes with your eyeballs rolled to the back of your head like that, you better hope it's not a Friday because you'll be waiting until Monday morning to see our primary care doctor!
Check out urgent care places instead of ER. - We found those came in handy and
[ In Reply To ..]
cheaper copay this past year.
The nearest one is an hour away but definitely - worth it now.

Interesting. Our rates at Nuance are ridiculous. Over 1500 - month for family and these are not
[ In Reply To ..]
copay plans. It is catastrophic coverage basically. What does your family plan run monthly?
That is certainly better than ours at 650-700 - every 2 weeks. We have 2

You get bonuses and incentives - None of that here
[ In Reply To ..]
x
You can get an individual plan for less than that. - Just sayin!
[ In Reply To ..]
Might be something to look into between now and Nov. 15. I definitely would!
Obviously they want you all to buy your own insurance. That - would be cheaper. NM

Our increase is basically another payment each month. I don't consider that a reasonable increase. I'd rather it have gone up a little the last 2 years instead of this now huge jump.
"Affordable"? You're kidding ... right? - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Keeping health insurance ... affordable ... again this year? My rates have almost gone up one full payment every month. I'm a single mom and pay $240 every pay period which practically KILLS my check. HALF of what I earn (literally) goes to my health insurance with MModal in spite of my other expenses like rent and food and to increase it even more is outrageous. They've just priced me right out of having health insurance. My kids won't be covered after this year because I can no longer afford it, on what we are being paid at MModal.
How is that possible? - x
[ In Reply To ..]
You're a single mom, so your payment would be $150 per pay period starting in January (111 per pay period in 2014). How does that add up to $240 per pay period? Even if you add vision and dental, it's still under $240 per pay period. And how is it that you only make $480 every 2 weeks? That's less than minimum wage by my calculations.
And rather than shop for an individual plan, you just won't carry insurance for your kids? I just don't get it.
Why are you paying $240? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I am a single mom and my insurance has been $86 per pay period. It will now go to $150 which really sucks, but that is nowhere near $240. I don't understand why you are paying so much unless you don't really work here, but are just posting here for some odd reason.
A lot of people post here that don't work here to stir the pot - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Some who don't work here even start threads on topics that get everyone all riled up.
Working for MM with kids, you qualify for Medicaid. - not sure why you CHOOSE to pay such
[ In Reply To ..]
A ridiculous amount. You can probably get food stamps too; unless you let pride get in the way, but children come first.

Keeping Our Coding In The US Jan 20, 2011Good news! A while back I posted how the company I work for was sold to an Indian group. I was concerned if that meant my coding job was going the way of my MT work. i work for a company that is coding's equivalent to an MTSO. Well, the hospital to which I am contracted has decided to not renew the contract with the company as they demand that their coding be done in the US by US coders. I also don't understand how they FORCED me to take a shift and now are threatening to change my shift to when work is available. Something stinks and we need to stand together on this or we wi ...
To Keeping My Head Up And Other Newbies Oct 25, 2009There is good reason that these ladies sound a little negative. It is not about you, your initiative, or your dedictation. Pay Rate Not Keeping Up With The Times Jan 20, 2011I have been an MT since 1986. I would like to know why the MT industry does not raise pay rates for MTs to keep up with the rising cost of living? Are we expected to just work longer hours in order to raise our pay? I see job openings offering 7 cpl! This is ridiculous! I have never made more than 9.5 cpl. We all know the companies are raising their contract rates for clients and making a killing, so why is our industry becoming such a slave-driving industry and what can we do about it? Ye ...

Could Anyone Who Has An HRA (health Reimbursement Arrangement) Type Of Health Care May 04, 2010tell me how that works? I know the insurance premiums are less than a regular health plan. If your company puts 500 in your account, does that mean the first few times, for example, until you use up the 500, you don't pay ANYTHING or is it the opposite...you pay the entire office visit cost until you reach that 500? Keeping Track Of Multiple Accounts/jobs May 18, 2010I recently quit my hospital MT job and started working for a mid sized MTSO.
