If a program is not accredited, can you still take the - test to get your certification? If SM

you can, is the certification the same as if you did take an accredited program, or is it considered less since you program was not accredited?
Yes ... actually you can take the test even if you don't take - any courses at all

The courses are designed to prepare you for the certification test but they are not required, you can even take the certification test even if you're self-taught and a lot of people have done that also.
So to answer your question, the course doesn't have to be accredited to take the test.

Yes you can, but it will be more difficult to get hired. However, I will caution you that this is a field that is pretty much dying out. The MTs that still are employed are usually making less then or right about minimum wage. Also, if you have a job with a larger company, their audit system makes it nearly impossible to get bonuses and very easy to get fired. Even as I say these things, I am still considering finding a new MT job, as it is what I know and am skilled at.
I am a graduate of At-Home Professions, I graduated in 2006. It is an accredited school. After completion of the program which actually took about one year, because I was working full time and completing the online course at the same time. I was impressed with the courses and the help/assistance I received upon completion of the course. When I completed the course I applied at a local MT company and was picked up to work in-house for one year and then home to work. I have been employed ...
What is the best Online MT school? I am currently doing alot of research on schools for MT and am finding that there are TONS of options and I am getting confused as to what is an isn't important. I've been told to check accreditation on both the ahdionline.org website and the chea.org. However, not all schools are listed on both sites... This may be a silly question, but does anyone have a certain school that they recommend? Currently I have a Bachelors of Scie ...
I have been reading through this site about good schools and also I found that there was information about Transam Associates. As far as schools go, I graduated from Allied School of Medical and was told that they had companies lined up for their new grads because their program was so good! They would assist you in finding a job and blah, blah, blah. Only $2,970 and you can pay over a year or get funding. They were accredited. Well, within a month or so, my finances ...
I have gone through coding school. I am not credentialed and it's been about 2-1/2 years since I finished school. So, I am rusty in the guidelines and thought just going for an Associates would be beneficial. So, I wondered if it really matters if the school program is CHAIIM accredited, or if any AAS degree in Health Information program will be okay and then get the RHIT crendential.
Thank you in advance greatly! :) ...
This past year I have read dozens of articles about "accredited" schools that are "approved for federal student loans", that enroll students, enticing them by offering financial aid, pressuring them to enroll even, calling them, e-maiing them, then, after they get them enrolled, not teaching them enough so they can get a job to repay those student loans. They keep them in the program long enough so that they get paid, giving the students "happy grades" so they don't get discouraged and quit ...
There's an interesting thread on the New MT board about accredited schools, school loans, and oppressive debt students are facing. I did a search today and there are dozens of articles talking about how students are thousands of dollars in debt for student loans when the education they got was so poor that they can't find a job at all. Others can find a job, but it will take 20-30 years for them to pay back the student loans. They went to those schools because they got pressured ...
I had a company send me an IP address to take a test. Once I e-mailed them back and asked what in the world am I suppose to do with this, they told me I had to have a FTP program. I tried one and it confused me to no end. Does anyone have any ideas on FTP programs? Thanks a lot! ...
The abbreviation "q.d." is listed as one of the dangerous abbreviations and we are not supposed to use it, ever. Yet when someone dictates the word "daily" in a report, ASR routinely substitutes "q.d." in its place. This is just wrong and has to be corrected manually. ...

I have hired a CPA friend to do my taxes the last umpteen years and now would like to just do it myself with TurboTax or the like. Does it work well for schedule C... and all the few deductions, health insurance premiums, etc., or am I best to fork over the big bucks?
Thanks,

I like how they try to make this seem great. It's probably no better or worse than we were before with the monthly incentives. When I got that email that said "line rate change" I really thought it was another pay cut.
I tried to figure how much the increase would be. I figured that the raise would give me 7 cents more per hour or about 56 cents a day? That can't be correct, although considering who we are dealing with.....maybe it is?
How do you figure exactl ...

I downloaded ExpressScribe but the sound isn't that great. I'm not sure if it's my file or if there's a better FREE program to download. The files I'm trying to transcribe are .dss.

Eiight years ago I took a transcription course through a local school that offered the SUM program. It was intensive training for nine months and earned a certificate for completing the program. I went to work for a local hospital and transcribed doctor's dictation; which included ER, radiology, psych, and scope reports. Plus various reports that came accross overnight, I worked the 3-11 pm shift.
I did this for eleven months, until the hurricains hit Florida and fo ...
Does anyone here that uses IT have problems with capitalizations after periods in ASR? I know it was always an issue with ASR and even with docqscribe expander, but not sure if using IT would capitaliize the first letter after the period. TIA ...
I just received information in the mail from Penn Foster for their medical coding and billing program. The booklet says that the program will provide students with the skills necessary to obtain entry-level employment as medical coders, coding specialists, medical billing specialists, and medical insurance clerks. It also says that you can earn 18 credits toward an associate degree in medical assistant or 17 credits toward an associate degree in health information technology at Penn ...

it is virtually impossible to get your required lines without working 10-12 hours a day. I have never seen such a mess. It is worse now than when it was first started. Nothing makes sense. The numbers it spews out are all wrong, medications are a joke, and even the word associations are unbelievable. Isn't someone supposed to be monitoring this program to make sure it works or is this just another burden added to the MLS to fix a mess without getting paid extra ...
now I don't know if I want to be a coder :(. I planned on taking the CPC and then after a few years taking the CCS. Before I started my program, I was naive and didn't realize how difficult and complex coding is. I don't know that I can sit in front of a computer for 8 hours and code all day long. It's almost too much like MTing (desk work, I mean). Plus, I am not confident in my ability to even pass the CPC. I am not very satisfied with th ...
I need some suggestions on an expander program that works with Word 2010. I have downloaded the free trial of Instant Text and do not like it. I want something simple. Bells and whistles not needed. TIA! ...
I've been out of transcription for a couple of years and wonder what the most popular expansion program is now. I loved PRD before it expired years ago. More recently used Abbreviate for it's ability to provide formatted text (bold print, etc) in the short forms so an entire H&P format could be saved. Is that still on the market? I'm not sure if Abbreviate is still on the market. Any suggestions for current programs. Thanks m ...
