I wonder what the job title is . . . - MayraMM

Posted: Aug 17, 2013

. . . for the person whose job it is to come to boards like this and be the voice of dessention, trying to make us feel there's no use in fighting, no actual mass layoffs, calming us down, etc.

I also wonder what will come of that job when MM is done with the layoffs.

I wonder why you keep posting frantically about things - when you have no idea what

[ In Reply To ..]
Your talkin about

I rest my case - MayraMM

[ In Reply To ..]
Posting frantically? Really? Let's see. I should be working right now, but after 16 years, I'm not, because of outsourcing. What exactly do I not have any idea about?

And if you don't like what I have to say, why are you reading it? Just skip over my posts. Problem solved. See how easy that was?

Once again - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
You are not out of work because of outsourcing, but off-shoring. The hospitals outsource to us. If it wasn't for outsourcing, you wouldn't have a job.
Umm... if it was not for MTs, YOU would not - have a job! PERIOD.
[ In Reply To ..]
We were fine on our own working in hospitals, it is MTSO's who has screwed up everything. By the way, did you hear about MM losing money???

From Ritchie Valens: âRe:MModal. Shakeup at the top. One Equity Partners is calling the shots now that they are private. They are bringing in their own people since the company has been losing money.â MModal names Duncan W. James, former president and CEO of QuadraMed, as its new CEO, replacing Vern Davenport and blah, blah, blah..... YOU KNOW THE REST.
Offshoring is just long-distance outsourcing. - And if outsourcing didnt exist, -sm
[ In Reply To ..]
we'd all still have living-wage onsite hospital and clinic jobs, and ICs would be making enough to pay for their overhead, and still have a nice income.

Outsourcing to middlemen ruined medical transcription.
I for one did not have a living wage at a hospital - worked for JLG and made more $$$
[ In Reply To ..]
I only made $8/hour at a hospital 10 years ago. All the transcriptionists topped out at $10/hr

Clearly, CLEARLY the OP is on a rampage the last 24 hours or so. I don't blame her for being upset but it is often best to calm down before saying so much.

Not a suit, just a lowly MT who expects to join the ranks of the unemployed sometime real soon here. However, I shall not rage and shake my fists to the heavens. I will apply to TAA, get retrained and move on with my life. A lot of people lose their jobs and don't get retrained for free. I look at it as a win-win. Bye, bye MModal and free school?? What's to be angry about.
What!?!!! - artlady
[ In Reply To ..]
This is not a win-win for some, particularly those who "re-trained" to do this work and actually like this type of work. In all respect, your interpretation of the chain of posts here as "rage and shaking fists to high heavens" is greatly exaggerated. Good luck to you with your re-training endeavors.

How about no time to prepare? How about being told you're "too goof" to be laid off, then days later being laid off? How about putting in years to a company that doesn't care about it's employees, and shows it with the ultimate slap in the face?

I'm not raging. I'm organizing. And by the looks of my in-box, so are others.
I would know I was being laid off if I was told I was - too goof to be laid off.
[ In Reply To ..]
Seriously though, never, ever, under any circumstances believe ANYTHING your boss tells you.

This I have learned in my 45+ years on this earth.

I am sorry you were laid off but if you didn't see it coming, you weren't looking.

company for decades. It all went downhill when CBAY came into the picture, but of course not for the bigwigs because their salaries went from 250,000 to 1.9 million.

Even the TSMs have NO IDEA what is going on and they are in fear of their own jobs.

We did not see it coming? Then why are TSMs lying and stating they are getting rid of all part timers? I know many who were not LET GO and they are part timers. It all depends on what accounts you have and the luck of the draw.

I saw it coming when CBAY bought us; I went back to college. I feel sorry for you if you thick all bosses act this way, because they don't. It all depends on the company you work at and if you work for an unethical company, then yes, bosses will lie.
Were you replying to me? Your post is inconsistent - with my post and name calling to boot
[ In Reply To ..]
I said everyone should have seen it coming.

Thus, clearly, I do know what I am talking about.

Oh, and yeah, most bosses do lie, if it is in their best interest to do so. The business is their priority not some lowly little employee who is nothing more than a cog in the machine. To think otherwise is naive in the world we live in.
Are you calling me a lowly little employee who is - nothing more than a cog in the machine?
[ In Reply To ..]
And who is name calling? I feel so sorry for you and your life. My God bless you and your endeavors.
Replying to me? - Ruby red
[ In Reply To ..]
So sad that some bosses (mgmt, suits, owers) would think of their employees as some lowly little employee who is nothing more than a cog in the machine, as you state in your post. I know my prior employer saw their employees as such and even told us in our face when they were laying us off, that we were a financial burden because they had to pay benefits for us, such as (med ins., PTO, vac time, 401k). It is interesting that some bosses fail to realize that their employees' work, such as in our case (MTs' production of high-quality, high-quantity volume medical reports) are what keep the customer/client (hospitals in our case) coming back for more, thus the business continues to make more money, which is what the bosses want right?

[ In Reply To ..]
I am curious, Anon, do you need a job? Are you paying a mortgage and trying to feed your children with your paycheck? Please don't be so demeaning in the timber of your responses to people who are concerned and caring. You are exactly correct, we do not know what happened (although I am sure there are many reliable sources of information being posted out here). Loyal hardworking folks put their trust in their company, don't you think now that this has happened, we deserve to know? That is all most of us are trying to find out. Truth is very empowering.

The manner in which MModal handled this lay-off, whether it was 1 or 1,000 was not ethical and if people roll over, pretend ignorance or take the attitude of "oh,well", then worse things happen further down the line. Just because we are "remote", does not mean that "remotely" we don't deserve the same treatment as someone in the office next door that you see face to face every morning. I do not think anyone is looking for a law suit to get money, but to make sure the protocol MModal uses in the future is more appropriate and more importantly lawful. In all respect, it is important to speak out and question when things such as this occur. So, please have patience with those of us who care.

Reading these posts, I have to wonder if the people being terminated were terminated for the quality of their work. The number of spelling and word misuse errors just in these few posts, with the exception of those by anon, is interesting.

[ In Reply To ..]
No, I don't believe so, I see haste errors and typos in "informal" written conversation such as these posts all the time, possibly mine specifically. However, I did not have quality control issues with my work at MModal when I was hatcheted this past week. I believe it is that people are trying to relay their thoughts which are not scrutinized for form so carefully as medical reports. Don't you think?
Are you kidding me? We have just been hit - in the face, and you are playing police control?

What the heck? By the way, I WON $250.00 last November for accomplishing 100% QA on all my reports. It was great using that money for buying Christmas gifts.

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm in lower level management and she is telling you the truth. The reason you're getting NJA is not because the new DQS is so "fast." It's because account after account after account is going mostly to India, but we also have centers set up in at least the Philippines and Canada (wish I had paid more attention on that last call). I was told to tell my MTs that it was because DQS was making the work go so much faster. That was a lie. If you have the ability to look at work available, you may be able to see "outsource" or "LP transcription" (labor partner). THAT is where your work is going. My entire BoB just went to India. So I'm waiting for the axe, too.

England too - Tigger

higher. I respected my QA and TSMs and MMEs. Thank you for your sincere honesty. It makes me feel better knowing I lost my job because of India.

It has been a blessing for me. I am stress free now. It feels great!

So, the MTs who are left behind working at MM - will soon be giving their job to India.

[ In Reply To ..]
The left behind MTs from what it sounds like will get canned. Wow! I called HR and asked them if I had anything negative on my file and they said nothing, only positive things and how I was a great employee. I asked then why I was selected and HR could not give a reason. They said they had NO IDEA why I was let go.

I was on an account and it was horrible, then it did get better with ASR and then boom, the account was gone. I was moved to a new manager and new account. Same thing happened. Then I was moved again for the third time to another manager and account and having to learn Cornerstone and a few months later, boom, I got the call from my manager.

So, I did nothing but basically taught the system to learn for the physicians and then boom, I lost my job to an India employee.

I knew this was coming. I just had no idea when and that I did not really think it would happen. I guess I was not living in reality, until now.

My experience exactly, all the way down to 3 different supervisors in 1 year. However, I grew up in the 60's when it was the job of a company to look after their employees. Very blood thirsty now. Call me naive, but I never really got any indication from anyone I spoke to at MModal that this was coming. As I said earlier, I missed that memo. Finally, someone in the company with a little bit of integrity has confirmed what has been denied to me all the way up to HR this past week (see Tigger).

Please tell.

I was able to get into the system - I saw all the accounts

Anyone with at least 1/2 a brain should know their goal is to offshore as much work as they can. This is nothing new. People who are surprised by this are just ignorant of the trends in the field.

As far as MM hiring a person to come on here and "harass dissenters" that's just dumb. They don't care that much.

No need to be working with MM to be affected by off-shoring. Off-shoring is an up and coming trend of mgmt. This is only the beginning what is happening to MT, medical billing, and medical coding. All industries will be affected in this way, so a whole lot more people are going to be experiencing what we are going through now, unfortunately.

I posted something similar a couple of weeks ago. I got responses like, "have a little whine with your cheese." They are no better than Transcend, who is in the middle of a lawsuit. YES, I have contacted the same lawyer. I used to make $25-$50 an hour doing medical transcription. I am down to less than $10 an hour with this MMeathead company because they pay by the report and you get all the ESL doctors who can't speak. You spend more time editing than you do actual typing, or filling in the data screen, or this or that problem with the program. It is always something. So if you complain, you are out of a job and they will give it to the newbies. It's not okay to treat people like this. For those with the negative responses, you'll figure it all out when it happens to you. After so many years of doing this and now you can't find a job, or sit and wait after you put in 100's of resumes, waiting for 3-4 weeks if and when someone will contact you...then you go through it all over again because they know they can get away with it.

I think we are all sad when anyone loses their job. I also think most of us have seen this coming a long time like a hurricane on the radar, so it shouldn't come as surprise to anyone when it strikes. We all should have had a disaster plan in place for when it does, and those who didn't have my sympathy, but there is little I can do for them except shake my head and say sorry. Honestly, I don't know how anyone could support a family of any size on MT pay any more, but I guess a little something is better than nothing.

On the bright side (even though I'm not religious) I believe that (fill in your preferred force here) doesn't close a door without opening a window somewhere. Maybe this is the kick a lot of us need to find something where we really are valued. Just let it go and move on to something much better.

I don't live my life on this board - MayraMM
[ In Reply To ..]
I mind my business and go my job. I didn't know about lay offs, because I don't talk to other MM MT's. I heard they were cracking down on line counts and times, but not to worry.

The only thing I used this board for before was to do my job, looking for obscure words or instruments I never heard of.

That may seem ignorant to some people, but look around you. People apparently have been talking about layoffs for a long time, and they're STILL surprised.

It doesn't make it right. If they knew they were laying people off, they should have been up front, instead of straight up lying about it, which they did to many of us.
Did they lie? This industry has been dying for years. - whoever and whatever
[ In Reply To ..]
I am sorry, but there were clues, regardless of what you were "told" by your supervisor. MT supervisors are not in on corporate decisions and to believe they have any knowledge of what the big picture is, is rather naive. They are next in line on the chopping block, probably more so than the remaining MTs. They are already "consolidating" regions. So, bye-bye lots of CCMs.

They sent regular e-mails about off-shoring work in leaps and bounds. They were very open about their goal to off-shore 80% by end of 2013. They have posts on the MM Intranet constantly bragging about opening new operations in Philippines and India.

It has been common knowledge industry wide that the trend was away from US MTs. It has been common knowledge that our days were numbered for 10 years or so.

I guess a good thing to come of this is you will never be so naive again. Always be looking out for number one.
So you say it has been common - LMAO
[ In Reply To ..]
knowledge industry wide that the trend was away from US MTs? Well then, someone forgot to tell that to the majority of the MTSOs who post ads for jobs, because the majority of them say "off-shore applicants need not apply" and 100% USA based only.
Response particularly to anonymous who thinks I am snide - artlady
[ In Reply To ..]
Until 2 days ago, I did not use this site. Maybe because I am busy with my life in other areas, I honsetly did not know anything of the 80% off-shore or 400 jobs to be lost in 2013, and certainly never dreamed I would be getting a phone call telling me I no longer had a job with the company this past week. Was that information a leak? Sorry I missed that memo from the company, so kill me. The only reason I am on here now is because I was reaching out trying to find a parttime job and Google led me here. I, in fact, was told emphatically by HR at MModal that the jobs were not being off-shored/out-sourced to India, and that there was just not enough work. When I asked if it was because the company was losing accounts, there was silence.
Did I say ALL? Don't think so - MayraMM
[ In Reply To ..]
Once again, you aren't being accurate.

I didn't say they were violating HIPAA, I asked if anyone knew the stance on it. Can you be any more inaccurate in your accusations?

I asked about WARN, as did others. But obviously you have a personal problem with me, as evidence by you calling what I say nonsense.

I'm responding to posts. That is not the same as posting, in the way you implied. So yes, there are more than 20 now.

Once again, if you don't like what I have to say, don't read it. No one is forcing you. That's the adult thing to do. Complaining to the mods and being snide are not.

Saying I posted nonsense 20 times is tantamount to name-calling, but you don't see me running to the mods.

You did nothing wrong, dear. Those who are gouging at you have no idea what is to come and it may happen to them. Top tier, great pay? What are you the favorite or are you part-time transcriptioninst and part-time QA? How do you get the prime accounts so you can make that great money? Again, I have been doing this for 40+ years, used to make great money. The only time I got the great pay and great accounts is when I did part-time QA work, and then I had a voice. Those who have those "great-paying" accounts and paid at a higher tier, you must be sucking something to get it, because it doesn't happen for all, even the most experienced, 100% QA, always volunteering to help, etc. I just wonder how true it is that some of these posts are.

Although, it could be a simple person who is running in fear for their job. Then again, that person should have at least a bit of 1% sympathy for the ones who were let go. So sorry MayraMM. Hang in there.

It is unfathomable to me how anyone can say with a straight face that these lay-offs come out of nowhere. MModal has been the MOST aggressive in moving off-shore and have not hidden that fact from anyone.

LAWSUIT - MT treated poorly

[ In Reply To ..]
http://www.missouriemploymentlawattorney.com/Labor-and-Employment-Law-Blog/2012/May/Medical-Transcriptionist-Unpaid-Wage-and-Overtim.aspx

Lawyer handling Transcend same problems.

Flood this lawyer with your complaints. Maybe he will be inclined to have a lawsuit against MedQuist, who has changed their name to MModal, I believe to now be the biggest MT company in the US (and India).

If you have concerns, bring them up and don't shy away! Don't let these other people drag you down with their comments. It is the older crowd, I believe, that is getting shafted, while the newbies are taking over. They can pay newbies less and have QA go over their work for cheaper than having you stick around at your high level of pay. Why should you stoop to newbie level just to survive?

Shame on those who have the negative feedback for they don't know what the experienced people are going through just to survive. After putting many years to decades into a profession, only to be told you are no better than a newbie in wage-frame, well, can't you understand what a lot of us are going through??

Maybe the lawsuit would never bring you money and it may take a long time, but the negative feedback and our feedback on this board could help sway people from going to work for them. However, in this day and age, any work is better than no work. That is not a good mentality, as it gives the employer more power!!

Holy Cow! After reading all these posts, it is - obvious there were many layoffs.

[ In Reply To ..]
Many people were laid off this round. Instead of comforting and being positive and trying to help the ones who were let go, instead you have DAMAGE CONTROL people on this board. It looks like MM is trying to keep the layoffs from the getting out in the news.

Damage control - artlady

[ In Reply To ..]
I hope that everyone will keep this on their radar screen and not allow MM to succeed making frustrated transcriptionists shut-up by attempting to bully them off the site. There are probably many more lay-offs to come and will need a platform. I have been noticing more and more MModal jobs popping up in India locations. As a side note, I think this may be a similar thing that happened with Tyco in Houston (not a transcription service). After hundreds of people lost their jobs there was a buy-out by Anderson-Greenwood, but folks lower on the food chain did not survive. I think sadly we are and were probably close to the bottom of the food chain in MModal. Note, there has been at least 1 MModal in management with integrity to come forward (Tigger).

Cause those of us that have been here for years and years have lived it. I have never had a job where I make 10K less than I did 15 years ago. And btw is it not because of NJA, I have work constantly, it is because of crappy docs that are not taught how to dictate and ASR.

It's no wonder we can't make any headway. We can't stop bickering between ourselves. Grow up hateful people.

Has Anyone Seen This PDF Re The MT's Change In Title?
Jul 02, 2012

Seriously, I see a lot of words in there such as: Specialist Expertise Skills Knowledge Critical information Accuracy and completeness Well educated/well trained Oh...and this, "Healthcare documentation specialists are second only to physicians in the amount of content inputted directly into the EHR." Sounds like MTs are evolving into what is apparently a pretty important job with serious responsibilities. So why, why, WHY in the name of all that is good on Earth are we being paid ...

Doctor's Full Name And Title?
Dec 26, 2009

When you transcribe a doctor's name in the body of the report, do you always need to transcribe the doctor's full name and title, even if not dictated as such - for example, would you need to transcribe "Adam Adams, MD" even if just dictated as "Dr. Adams," and look up the full name and title? I'm always required to do so but can't find it in the BOS. I'm new so I don't know if this has been posted yet. Thanks. ...

Ever Wonder What CCMs Or Whatever Their New Title..earns?
Oct 15, 2012

Nuance STARTS their equivalent of CCMs at 45,000/year, salary.  No need to worry about PTO, sick time, etc..you just get your salary no matter what.  I am assuming Mmodal is right around there..which quite frankly makes me ill and madder than hell.  I do not begrude anybody their due..but the chasm..GIANT chasm between highly trained MLS and pretty much schedule keepers is so patently unjust I do not think I will ever get out of this vortex of bad morale I am sinking in. ...
