Having been at this job for only five months, I've noticed certain new behaviors in myself that can only be attributed to the stressors of this job:

  1. Insomnia
  2. Stress eating
  3. Stress drinking
  4. Stress shopping 
I know have to eliminate some of the above behaviors in order to attain a state of well-being. I have to thank god that I inherited my mom's pension after she passed away, because if it weren't for her pension supplementing my income, I would have told MModal to 'take this job and shove it'.
How have some of you dealt with the stressors of working for this company?

it goes along with being a MT. Since you have the income supplemented by your mom's pension, I would seriously advise you to look for something else, it only gets worse. Take the opportunity to do something that you like to do. A lot of us are only here because we are close to retirement, do not have the opportunity of making a change. Fortunately I do not have very long to go before getting out, but if I was faced with years of having to put up with this abuse, I would be seriously looking. Life is too short to let this type of work affect you this way. I am not criticizing, I totally understand and I feel the same way, you strive for perfection only to be belittled and the expectations are high as the pay is lowered. You are the one responsible for you, take steps to make your life happy.

I'm a little surprised to even hear you went into MT. I did it for 13 years, the last 6 of which were horrendous. So I quit.

That's the only answer I can come with, except to say that self destructive behavior is adding to your stress. Try to divert that using exercise and getting out and having some fun every week or 2.

Start looking for other work besides MT--the mere act of job hunting for another career gives a sense of having some control. That helped me feel far less stressed.

I exercise on the days I have the energy to do so, and must admit I feel better when I do. Most days I out eat the exercise, due to lack of energy from the insomnia.

for years... What I do for each problem:

1. Don't sleep well.
2. Eat too much & now am fat.
3. Drink way too much...
4. Shop online to take my mind off work in between jobs and waste too much money.

LOL... I never realized this wasn't just my own personality flaw & might be related to the stress. It's been so long for me that even if I got away from this job, I wonder if it hasn't all gotten to be an unbreakable habit by now.

If you exercise, even take a 2 mile walk a day, you will sleep better, eat less and you can have a drink. Perhaps the pounds won't melt away, but you will feel better and then you will see results and want to do more, like go to the gym or take up a sport. I play tennis and ride my bike. I go to the gym to fitness classes; one hour a day works wonders. Whatever you do, do something that keeps you moving and away from the computer for a while and your mind off of your job. I also quit this horrible company and that did wonders for me as well! Go gettum girl!

Chronic depression: Have to take meds.

Sleep too much: Late start to every day.

Eat too little: Loss of appetite has caused some weight loss. Not a bad thing, actually, but I don't eat healthy.

Stress shopping: What is it about finding some totally cute thing on eBay and then clicking that "BUY NOW" button that makes me feel SOOO much better? But it does. It could get out of hand in a heartbeat, so I limit myself, and "watch" an item for a long time to be SURE I want/need/don't already have it. In my household, the more things that can serve double-duty, the better. If it's a household item, or especially a piece of clothing, that can serve many other uses, and if I get it at a bargain price, then I allow myself to feel good about the purchase because it ultimately saved money.

Inertia: A negative side-effect of my stress. I tend to get overwhelmed by all the things I need to/"should" be doing, and end up doing nothing. ADD doesn't help that, either, especially with housework. I successfully cleaned my apartment this past week before visitors came, by picking just ONE THING PER DAY that "had" to be done. Such as the dishes, or mopping the floor in the kitchen. If I accomplished that, then I could check one more thing off my list. Anything else accomplished above and beyond that was for extra points, but if I didn't do them, at least I'd done what was on my list. Also found that multiple short breaks during the cleaning period made a huge difference. Those breaks included sitting on sofa for 15 min. having coffee or a coke. Taking a 20 min. nap in the afternoon. Watering the garden outdoors, which is always a good stress-buster. Or taking my shower in the middle of the afternoon, between chores, rather than in the morning or evening.

I know I have God to thank for finally putting an end to this misery. I was finally let go after many years. I just couldn't take the stress any longer. I did this job for as long as I could after 2006. I quit once several years ago but quickly sought to come back but afterwards this place just kept reaching a new low time and time again. Seeing my PTO rate drop not all that far from min wage was disgusting enough to depress me along with pounding the keyboards for a whopping $555-565 for 2 weeks. I know they wanted to keep me a certain rate and when I surpass that, each time the tables would change on me. I know in my heart there was no way they could let me achieve more. Tricky business. I also thank God for any supplments I have.

Last night was the first restful sleep I had in many months. I woke up at 6:30 a.m. for the first time in a very long time and got out of bed without any hesitation. I feel like I have renewed energy!

Occasionally when I'm doing an ASR report and insert a QA marker the yellow cursor marker will go away and the cursor goes to the end of the report.  Then I have to scroll back through the report to find my place and if I lift my foot off the foot pedal it happens again.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  It's irritating on a really long report.  TIA. ...

That is when I got a new CSM and they said they were "restructuring" and some CSMs were going to deal only with MTs and some only with customers.  My new CSM said her old MTs were always running out of work because THEY said the average MT could do "x amount" of dictation and most of hers could do twice that, and so when she got the "new-to-her" MTs and accounts, then we all started running out of work. ...

Transcend/MDI - Has This Happened To Anyone Else?

I was an "MDIer" for the past year and 2 days ago we became Transcend.  Even though I was considered part-time with MDI, I was really FT because of the hours/reports I typed (radiology).  Since MDI didn't offer benefits, I was excited to be given the chance for FT benefits with Transcend.  The hype from the higher-ups in e-mails made me very hopeful for the merge.  I filled out all the paperwork for benefits, received my dental and vision cards and yesterday the bombshel ...

As stated in my previous post, I have been typing all new accounts for the last 2 weeks with no training whatsoever. I got a "critical error" report back because of the number of blanks I had put into the report and sent directly to the client.
