What Happened to CyMed - Pokey

Does anyone know what became of CyMed? I worked for them about 3 years ago and have been away from transcription. I left on good terms and thought about reapplying but they seem to have vanished? What happened?

They were purchased by SPi just about 3 years ago. There are only 2 people left in the Richmond office. The rest were let go or quit, MTs, office personnel, account managers, and even their IT personnel. Most accounts are gone or sent offshore. Terrible company to work for.

So bad that I was laid off at the end of September! I have been MTing for almost 20 years....."nice thank you very much" don't you think? The work is all being off-shored. However, if you are lucky enough to still work for them, the ESLs are the worst, the audio is the worst, the pay.......what pay? LOL!!! You work for them until you have the Philippine MTs trained then are given a BIG "see ya."

I'm so sorry to hear what happened to you. I thought I had retired a 3 years ago but probably should have waited a little longer as a little more income would sure help these days. I was thinking about trying to get back to transcription PT but after reading some of these posts, it sounds like things have become so much worse. Based on all that I am hearing, I think that maybe I should explore other options.

I am very fortunate that right now I can take some time and figure out what it is I want to do. Such a shame though that after almost 20 years I would have to change careers! I am looking into coding, probably along with 1000s of other MTs right now. We will PREVAIL. We may be down, but we are not entirely out....yet! Good-luck in your endeavors.

I got laid off there in June 2007 with absolutely no warning. I went to log in one day to work and I couldn't get into my account. I called my supervisor and she was so upset about all that was happening and thought it was completely unprofessional what they did to so many people without even warning them. She actually did an override to the system to let me keep working for a couple more hours until the company caught it, but after that there was no more. I almost quit my full-time job to go full-time with them, but something always held me back from doing it and now I know!!

Please DO NOT waste your time with Cymed/SPI. I was laid off from there in September 2009. I was typing my regular account and boom got a call from a manager and HR....laid off, no notice, no maybe we can give you another account....just kicked to the curb....just probably was given to a India or Phillipine MT as they seem to glorify them! When I first started with Cymed it was a wonderful company with great people to work with and a very helpful trainer. As soon as SPI bought them, they started losing BIG accounts right and left and laying people off, managers, account managers, MTs, IT personnel, EVERYONE! Believe me you would want to steer clear from this company, on top of that they openly recruit for MTs from the Phillipines.....(so un-AMERICAN)!!!

I worked for CyMed for about 2 years and they were bought out by SPi during the summer of 2006. CyMed was a fairly decent company to work for, but things went downhill fast shortly after SPi took over. Accounts were lost, managers were leaving, work load was decreasing, and everything was complete chaos. They HEAVILY offshore. I finally had enough and left in February 2007 and went with a MUCH better company, who I am still with to this day and have never looked back. There was actually a huge layoff of US MTs and QA staff in the early summer of 2007, from what I heard, so I guess I got out just in time!

I just wondered...has anyone ever made a mistake on a report (which was your fault and you readily admit you screwed up) and get an email stating: please explain why you made that mistake because the client is waiting for an explanation??!!! I just to recently switched to a whole new region, supervisor and QA supervisor with 3 days notice because of ONE particular account I transcribe on. I had been typing the previous accounts for over 5 years. Occasionally when I'm doing an ASR report and insert a QA marker the yellow cursor marker will go away and the cursor goes to the end of the report. Then I have to scroll back through the report to find my place and if I lift my foot off the foot pedal it happens again. Does anyone know how to fix this? It's irritating on a really long report. That is when I got a new CSM and they said they were "restructuring" and some CSMs were going to deal only with MTs and some only with customers. My new CSM said her old MTs were always running out of work because THEY said the average MT could do "x amount" of dictation and most of hers could do twice that, and so when she got the "new-to-her" MTs and accounts, then we all started running out of work. ...

I was an "MDIer" for the past year and 2 days ago we became Transcend. Even though I was considered part-time with MDI, I was really FT because of the hours/reports I typed (radiology). As stated in my previous post, I have been typing all new accounts for the last 2 weeks with no training whatsoever. I got a "critical error" report back because of the number of blanks I had put into the report and sent directly to the client. When reviewing the report, I noticed that some of the blanks were not caused by me at all, but by the QA person rewording the dictation to his/her liking.
