Has anyone noticed a lot of misspelled words are going through? sm - mb

Posted: Jun 07, 2011

I have been noticing the spellchecker lately missing a LOT of misspelled words, I just proofed one of my reports and I had a typo in the word January and spelled it as "Janaury" AND THE SPELLCHECK ACCEPTED IT!!! I've noticed it lets lots of misspelled medications go through, too, because I have tried it.

My theory is this is just another trap they can use so we don't get the 99% required QA score.

I think also they have deliberately thrown a lot of stuff at us to slow us down, too, like they way we have to search for physicians where we put the last name in the search box, then tab down and put the first name in to search. It didn't used to be that way, and it was a lot quicker!

I can think of other examples, like someone here lately said that they are only getting 1 job at a time, and it takes them a lot of time to pull up that next job.

Getting us all down to minimum wage must be their goal. I'm almost there now, anyway. I'm bringing home $200 a week now and I used to bring home almost twice that.

Anyone else feel this way?

across many items on the spell check that have highlighted my spellings as incorrect, when in fact when I double check to make sure, the spell check is incorrect. I think either there are a lot of new people messing it up (as I think it is "supposed to learn" just like ASR) or the Indians are messing it up. Either way, it seems like they are trying to set us up to fail. Why wouldn't they have one of their "tech people" monitoring this kind of crap. Actually, I think it has been going on for years, and it's just getting worse. Do they really want to make us screw up so they can get rid of us? I really am suspicious at this point. It is such a shame that all the time, effort, education and research I have put into this job is going to waste. This faulty spell check system makes me second guess myself and look up terms all over again, that before I was very sure about. The only spell check words I can rely on are the ones I enter myself. I do oncology and there are always a lot of new words, such as chemo drugs, treatment techniques and so forth that I take the time to look up and enter myself. Over time, it seems that spell check either changes the spelling or eliminates the word altogether. I think they do regular purges of spellcheck when they do upgrades. Why would they care, they didn't take the time to look this crap up without pay? Okay, done with rampage. I just can't believe what the MT profession has come to from the time I started it. There are people to blame for this, and I know just who. It's time to pay the price, ane karma will pay off!

As far as the conspiracy theory on the spellchecker issue though...and believe me...I'm not a cheerleader. I had that exact same problem for months before I could get to finally look at it. I was the same way...adding lots of words to the dictionary...to the point (according to tech) that the file got so big some of the components become corrupted. Get with tech and have them remove everything from your profile and set it back to default. You'll have to start over from scratch with some things not being in there. I'm slowly learning to live with that and not adding too much back in now. Yes, its slowing my production down big time.

Conspiracy theory? - Handicapping us

I don't know if what is happening is just byproducts of the system trickling down from their "updates" to the system, or whether they are downright trying to jeopardize us, but for the last 3 days, I'm getting some unusually horrible ESLs with dictations over 1000 seconds, horrible sound like speaker phones or something, right at the very end of my scheduled shift, forcing me to do the whole document. I've been going way past my scheduled time to clock out because of the length of these documents, as well as not getting that second job loading up after the first one. If I saw how long the document was, I could just sign off for the day, but once it starts to download, I'm stuck. I dare not abandon it.

I also notice that when I highlight a bunch of words to use a skip marker, sometimes one of the words is deleted. If I blink, I won't catch this. When I proof my work, it might stand out, but once it didn't when I had to listen to a particularly difficult dictation and saw a missing word right before a skip marker I inserted. That didn't happen with straight typing. They simply don't realize how much different this ASR is from our POV.

Here's another one - Handicapping us

I just finished another odd dictation. It was from an account I haven't even heard of, never done before, didn't recognize the CCM in charge of it. Okay, it's better than NJA, but I ended up having to leave a bunch of blanks and didn't send it to QA. I'm trying to fly under the radar. The dictator was one of those new residents that completely slurs her words as some young folk do these days. Is that supposed to be hip or something? I wasn't familiar with any of the doctors' names she gave, tried to search in our antequated Doctor List to no avail, so had to leave blanks for them. The strangest thing was, this job was actually RESERVED for me??? I'm no super-transcriptionist, so I'm leaning toward believing they are setting me up here. Any thoughts?

Be careful of the reserved reports....sm - mb

In my experience (I know other people here have posted otherwise, but this is MY experience) the reserved reports are the ones I have been audited on. It's not fair, I know, to audit you on something unfamiliar and I hope that's not the case with you.
That was my hunch - Conspiracy theory
[ In Reply To ..]
I know what you mean. That's why it was squeaky clean except for the mumbles I doubt any QA will get either. You're right - it isn't fair, but if it wasn't for this board, I wouldn't have thought the Q would stoop so low.

I have worked here 11 years and this is what I know to be fact. Sometimes the reserved reports (per my old CCM) are retypes...reports that were not good enough to send through the first time and they send it to a more seasoned transcriptionist to see if they have a better outcome the second time around.

That has happened to me and in fact a couple of times someone in upper middle management has called me to do the report saying that multiple MTs have bailed out of the report and couldn't finish it and telling me they have reserved it for me. Not sure if I appreciate it though.

Oh, and another one. - Handicapping us

[ In Reply To ..]
Same MT here. I just got ANOTHER reserved job for me, whole new client profile. Job was very short - 100 seconds, an ASR report, ESL. The client profile was pretty long. After I read it, I kept having to go back and forth between the report and the client profile and the ADT to make sure I wasn't messing anything up. There was a lot that I had to type into the ADT that usually goes into the report, and I don't get any lines for that either. It took me longer to read and follow the weird client profile with exceptions to every rule than to actually type the report. What a waste of time.

I have sympathy for you, handicapping us. sm - mb

[ In Reply To ..]
I truly hope you aren't being audited on these reports. I do wonder why they are reserving them for you, though. I'm getting so tired of these client profiles. Remember when we could just type and the doctors would actually trust us to format the report the right way? Now they are so picky.

Many times every week I wish I could just quit my job right then. I did do this once, and it was very satisfying! I worked for a small transcription service and the owner had retired and left the business to his young son. This kid had never even been to college and he was about 20 I think when he took over the business.

Anyway, he got a contract for a hospital with a 10-page client profile, full of exceptions and each different physician wanting his reports his own unique way, etc, etc. I struggled with it for about a week and one day I just had it! I was already working for Medquist part-time by that time so I just packed my bosses' computer into my car, drove to his office and plunked it down on his desk and said I quit!

That felt so good!!!

The kid lost the business a few months later. It was good I didn't stay there, anyway.

I don't know how much longer any of us have at Medquist. I'm looking for another job, but it won't be in transcription. I feel like a rat jumping from a sinking ship. I hope this rat lands in a nice place this time, though!

Not only that, but since MQ - sm

upgraded DQS, the physician name search box is a pain in the butt! Why change something that's working fine into something more inferior?? Their tech people drive me crazy.

I had this problem - see message - MTmama

[ In Reply To ..]
About a year ago I had the same issue. I started spellchecking my documents twice. I worked with tech support; we reloaded everything and it recurred.

My turned out to somehow be related to a KVM switch I was using (lets you use two CPUs with 1 monitor, KB and mouse). Not sure how or why, and neither was tech. support. I got another KVM and have not had the problem since.

Good luck! Hope you get it figured out.

I was just looking back through all my pay stubs from 2010 and MQ took out less than $5.00 in federal taxes. About The 500+ LPH, Here Is What I Noticed In My POD-sm
Jan 21, 2015

Of the 80 people listed, only 10 had a 300+ line count.  Of those 10, 4 had a high (highlighted in red) QA submission score.  The highest line count was 415 with a 24% QA submission score. The average seemed to be between the minimum of 150 and about 250ish.   Remember when ASR started and we were told eventually we could do TWICE as much as straight typing and thus the reason for the cpl pay cut!  So we all should be at 300+ by now dont you think??!! ...

My CCM finally called and left a message saying I hadn't been logging on and she would have to process termination if I didn't get in touch with her. "A phone call would be nice," I think is how she worded it. I didn't call her back.  I just sent her an email and told her to go right ahead and process termination, that I didn't call because I didn't feel that the Q deserved the courtesy of a call when they treat their MTs like trash. So I am officially free.  ...

"check document as you type," there is no delay while typing and there is no delay when moving the audio slider.
