Can this be true? MQ contributes 50% match for 401k.... - Kiki1

Posted: Apr 30, 2011

Out of curiosity I went to the Merrill Lynch site.  I was looking around on my personal page; I had NO idea how much I had in there, and it showed me (I was surprised as I thought it was much less) But what do I know about it...never really kept up on it.....

However, I always thought MQ didn't contribute a CENT anymore?  I clicked on "Learn more about your company's match" and it said it matches 50% of the first 5% you contribute....WTH???  Can anyone confirm or refute this?

I was considering yanking all my 401k money out but if they really do match, I think that would be stupid.  But I just cannot believe that they would contribute anything at all if they didn't have to by law, and they don't.

Anyone?

Not sure about MQ but most 401Ks you have to quit before getting $$. - some not until you retire!

The match can be true in regard to the 401K. I don't work at MQ but my employer does that. It is true that you can't pull your funds until you leave or retire.

In our plan you can get your money out; I just did it. I rolled most of it over into an IRA and left a small amount in so that I can continue getting the benefit of the tax deferral. MQ has not matched any funds in years and doubt that they ever will again.
Interesting - Thanks for the info

You rolled it out while you were still actively employed? That's good to know. I was told by a ML rep last year that I couldn't do that. Once again, left hand, right hand. lol I don't really want to move mine right now because the earnings are so great. Last 18 months 23.3%, and last 12 months 10.6%. Must say thats not bad, and I have most of mine in some lower risk bonds so its not super risky either. But, its good to know for future reference that I can move it while I am still working here.

No match for me in years - but...

They only matched for the first 2 years I participated, then went on "discretionary" match based on company's performance. I haven't received a match since then. I am guessing that ML just never updated their site, however I will definitely be calling them on Monday to see about that! I must say that the MQ 401K is one of the best remaining parts of this job. My earnings are through the roof!! It is true that you cannot remove your funds without a penalty as long as you are still employed with MQ. If you leave for any reason, you can transfer the balance to another qualifying fund without a penalty.

They match at their discretion, decide at end of year. - NM

When you received your last match? I just want to make sure I am not missing out on something. My last employer match was in 2003, or maybe 2004.

i believe that is correct - sm - curious

i remember last year they posted that it was a "bad" year, so they did not contribute. Perhaps things are looking up, so they contributed this time.

I did just find out you can't take your money out, not - Kiki1

even to roll over to a Roth IRA while you are still employed. What you CAN do is take a "loan" up to 50% of your vested amount. I'm still confused on whether they match or not. The site DOES say match is 50% of first 5%, but like the other poster said, maybe their site isn't updated. Plus my gut tells me there is no way MQ would do a match if they didn't have to. Still, even w/o the match, I actually have amassed a good amount over the 10 years I've been here, so maybe I won't have to eat bird seed and noodle soup during my retirement after all. The best way to save I guess is to have it taken out before you even get it. I would have never saved that amount on my own that's for sure.

They used to match at a percentage, but have not for years.

I took a loan against my 401K last June and you pretty much just pay yourself back. It comes out of each MQ check. I had my check for my loan within a week and there were absolutely no problems getting the money. Easy as pie.

401K Match
Mar 12, 2012

If there is anyone who understands the 401K match, can they give us a sample, ie, if you gross 1000 per pay period what the 25% of the first 4% would be and how much you could expect.  The way I do it, I would get 80 cents, so hoping I'm wrong. ...

Anyone Get Their 401K Match
Jul 16, 2012

Before I start slamming this company yet again for not keeping their promises, did anyone check their 401K and see a contribution?  I know they were supposed to start matching after July 1st and the paycheck on Friday the 13th was the first one.  I expected when I logged into my 401k this morning to see a contribution and surprise surprise nothing. ...

Does Anyone Know If MQ Does A 401K Match Anymore?
Mar 23, 2010

I'm wondering if I should just stop contributing at all.  I remember they used to, low as it was, at least it was something--like IF they made money, MAYBE they would and then a very low percentage, like 25 cents to the dollar?  Prob a mute point even asking.....but just wondering if they nixed that.  My sister is complaining because her company used to do a 100% match and now she only gets 75%.  Boo hoo!  At least she has a match.....I'm sure ours is now so ...

401K Match Stinks. Needs To Be Improved.
Nov 19, 2013

Here is an article that talks about 401K. Mmodal's 401K plan stinks. "The most common 401(k) employer match is now dollar-for-dollar for the first 6% of income that an employee defers." Mmodal only matches 25% up to 4% which equals 1% in a lump sum which is even stingier than matching it each pay period to allow the participants to take advantage of compounding. The worst thing - We don't even know if Mmodal is going to match this year. In years past they sent out a letter res ...

Info On 401K
May 01, 2011

I don't know if they have just changed things but I rolled over a large amount from my 401K into an individual IRA just this past January.  The advisor at ML said that most 401K's did not allow this but that ours did.  I had been told in the past that I could get my money "any time I wanted to."  I suppose it is possible that so many people have taken money out that they changed the rules but I would check with ML to be absolutely sure.  ...

401K/benefits
Mar 12, 2012

It is nice, I suppose, for those able to participate in the 401K, and those who would gain from the benefits. There are paychecks where I have earned $8 and 9 an hour (I'm a tier 3) because of being jerked around on multiple unfamiliar accounts and crappy dictators. I recently applied for food stamps (or go hungry), and had to borrow against a small line of credit to make my rent.  All this "improvement" doesn't help me pay for just the basic high cost of living we all are struggl ...

401K, For Me No Way, But I Might Change My Mind
Dec 04, 2009

I could have participated in my company's 401K for 3 years now, but when I went to sign the paperwork and read through the fine print there were things stated in there like I could lose everything that I put into it if the investiment company went bankrupt and that this "IS" an investment and not a promise to pay..... 401K Company Contribution
Jan 24, 2013

Hey All - Greetings-!  Say, any of you who do 401K contributions at Nuance, supposedly the company matches 50% up to the first 4%.  Do they consistently do this every time, or is it contingent on anything (like quarterly earnings, etc.)?  Does their contribution show "every check" or is it deposited every month or quarter or something like that?  I could not get a direct answer on this when I emailed the company benefits administrator, so I'm skeptical.  Without the ...

Can This Be True?
Nov 11, 2010

I think full-time MT/ME's with benefits are required to do 150 lines per hour or 1200 for an 8-hour shift, right?  Full-time without benefits and part-time need 100 lines per hour. If the poster below is correct about newbies getting 4-cents per line ASR (no mention of how much for transcription), that means full-time with benefits will get $6 per hour = $48 per day = $240 per week = $12,480 per year, NOT including fed and state taxes, Medi ...
