what is make up pay - stumped

[ In Reply To ..]
Never heard of that in all my years here. Must be a california thing

Make-up pay is the amount of pay that MQ has to - kick in

on top of what you did production-wise to bring you up to minimum wage, which they have to pay you. Like if you did 100 LPH and get 4 cents a line and only made $4 an hour that week, then they would have to bump you up to your state's minimum wage requirement. I don't believe they can fire you for that as long as you are reaching their requirements line-wise of 120 or 150 LPH, depending on whether you are full or part time. If they paid a decent line rate, there would be no need for the make-up pay.

MUP - Toobigtofail

Funny how so quickly so many have ended up in the minimum wage bracket with MT. The MTSOs would pay MTs $2.50 an hour if they could get away with it. A decent line rate, decent sound files and good dictators would solve this problem pretty quick. Pretty deplorable at what they expect you to do for pittance and then they complain about MUP they have to pay out. Sad state of affairs for workers in this country.

New Job And Receiving Attachments From Them
Aug 23, 2012

I'm preparing to start a new job and they emailed several attachments.  On opening them, the data is there in the middle of a bunch of garbled letters and symbols.  I was going to let it go and just delete the gargled stuff but this is ridiculous.  We thought having Microsoft office would help but it didn't.  I was hoping someone here would know what I need to do before I have to call them in the morning.  I would really like to fix this on my own but I can ...

Receiving Only A % Of Line Count??
Dec 04, 2009

Is it typical to only receive a percentage of your edited lines because "editing is faster and better" than straight transcription?  I am new to VR, but this seems odd to me. No wonder I am being paid a decent rate.  LOL  So, when I edit a 50-line report, I only receive 60% of that report.  I'm just curious if this across the board with all companies?? ...

Statutory Employee Vs. Traditional Employee Status Inquiry
Oct 10, 2013

I'm seeing more and more job postings for statutory employee status.  I'm trying to figure out what an appropriate line rate request equivalent would be since I would be responsible for withholding income taxes.  For example if the traditional employee line rate is 8 cpl for transcription what would I need to request for statutory status?  The same or more? ...

Silent Type MTs - Will No Longer Be Receiving A Production Bonus
Jul 01, 2013

I don't remember being notified that we will no longer be receiving a production bonus with our twice a year audit. I'm not sure what else she can take away from us at this point. We have already had our PTO cut, PTO rate reduced, and now no bonus. Well, I suppose we could pay her to work there. Of course, this is JMO. ...

Worried About Being Able To Even Make What I Used To Make Doing
Apr 11, 2011

I seem to be spending an awful lot of time in VR documents, so I am confused as to why I am getting paid less for them.  This stupid VR system types whatever it thinks it might be hearing and sometimes doesn't type anything at all.  I hate this VR.  I am up to 1800 lines but usually do 2200-2500 a day on straight transcription.  I don't know how I am going to feed my children.  I am a single mom and the head of household.  Believe me the child support isn& ...

IC Vs. Employee

I have only had one long-term position as an employee for an MT company. Left to get some work out in the "real world" but am in a position to return to an at-home job. Possible That I May Be A MQ Employee Soon
Oct 20, 2011

Hi everyone,  It seems the hospital I am employed by may be outsourcing completely to mq. Rumor has it, if this happens then the 20 or so MTs will be going to MQ or not have a job. Can anyone tell me what I am looking at if that happens, trying to figure out if I should be looking for employment elsewhere.  here are my main questions:  1.  Is there a starting pay or is everyone paid differently? 2.  Is there a schedule or is it flexible? 3.  What kind of benefi ...

New Employee Help

Has anyone out there accepted a job but then not been able to work because of technical issues?  I accepted a FT transcription position, did the necessary paper work and went through the remote set up on my PC.  I trained on the platform for 2 hours and spent another hour or so beginning to learn the account specs and editing a few voice files, all of that went well. Which Is Better, Employee Or IC?
Dec 16, 2014

I am a part time employee of an MTSO. In California the min wage is $9/hr, which means at 0.85/line for editing my LPH must add up to $9, while MTs in other states may only have to make $7.50 or so to remain employed. My Team Leader said that is somewhat unfortunate for me; as a 1 year out-of-school newbie I'm not as fast as other MTs.  A few years ago I was an IC and I recall they did have a minimum line count per day but I don't recall having to produce more than ...

Does anyone else work for Medquist? I have been working for them for 8 years now and am getting really fed up with their unrealistic policies!! Statuatory Employee
Apr 27, 2010

Curious to know if anyone on this board is a statuatory employee with the company they are working for and outside of the company paying your SS tax and FWT, do you get any type of benefit, i.e., PTO, health, etc. Is it strictly just for tax purposes?
