possible that I may be a MQ employee soon - mommy2mad

Posted: Oct 20, 2011

Hi everyone,

It seems the hospital I am employed by may be outsourcing completely to mq. Rumor has it, if this happens then the 20 or so MTs will be going to MQ or not have a job. Can anyone tell me what I am looking at if that happens, trying to figure out if I should be looking for employment elsewhere.

here are my main questions:

1.  Is there a starting pay or is everyone paid differently?

2.  Is there a schedule or is it flexible?

3.  What kind of benefits are they offering now?

Anything else you think may help with my decision.

I worked for MQ many years ago and obviously there were reasons I left, but at this point, it is not my choice to go back, it is looking like I will have absolutely no choice at all, in fact.

Thanks for your input!

:)

Facts: MQ is owned 100% by Cbay, company based in India. Apply for other jobs and get out ASAP. Look through this board and spend most of your time searching for a new job -- opinion of most..

it's that bad!?!?

what are the production requirements?

Stay on and you'll see - up to you

Is it a job: yes. Pay good: No (if you were getting paid good that will last for a bit, but without a doubt it will change and sooner rather than later). Is it that bad: Ummm, browse throgh this board. Company is owned by India so seems rupees are the going rate these days. Sad situation --- All of the above, unfortunately, in the end, thanks to Obama and his requirement for EMR. It will get worse before it gets better .... very sad mostly for patients. But in the end after 2012, prediction is it will get better once insurance claims are denied (which is multiple are in the process now) because of simple bad quality and incorrect information. We'll see.

Do yourself a favor, at least get your foot out the door now! I worked for Spheris for 9 years, it wasn't perfect, but I loved the job and it paid the bills. Then came that awful day we were sold to the Q. The first 4 months weren't all that bad.... then I got an MT Reward (as they called it) giving me a 10% pay cut, taking away my Internet reimbursement and production bonus. I panicked and went to PT to get more hours with another employer. Things went along okay, well sort of, for a bit, then ANOTHER pay cut. Next, my account of 10 years "was experiencing low volume, and will be going away" (to India I presume.) By then I had been offered a full time job for better pay in a non-MT field.... I gave 2 days' notice. So start looking now before the bad things start happening, because believe me, they will. This is the Q's pattern, read through these posts. I used to think most of the folks on here were whiners/slackers, or they must have DONE something to deserve what they were getting, not so. Then the bad stuff started happening to me and my co-workers I had known for years! Run as far and as fast as you can!

Possible MQ employee - ea

Production requirements: 1200 lines/day minimum, 150 lines/hour full time employee. Insurance: Awful, HSA insurance. MQ gives you $500 dollars towards medical and the rest you pay until you reach $3000 deductible, then they pay 70%. However, you do get free mammogram, physical once a year. Flexible: No, you are required to work a shift, however, you can trade a day here and there for another day. QA at least every other month, 5 reports checked each time. Good luck!

dont forget to mention - this

[ In Reply To ..]
Anything over 5% sent to QA gets a pay decrease of 3 cpl. Therefore, if you are paid 4 cpl for ASR, your line count will drop to 1 cpl. Also, they require 99% accuracy, and anything under that will get you put in 100% QA. Also, dont forget that you have to punch a time clock, and some CCMs do not allow you to "change a day here and there." Lastly, dont forget to mention that some days, you will type for a minimum of 15 accounts, any account your supervisor has in the group is assigned to you and you just jump from account to account, having to check client profiles each time and they send a gazillion e-mails each day stating "this doctor wants his standard pulled in whether he states so or not" and "this NP dictates for these doctors but will not state which one, but put one in anyway" and "this doctor wants the date added to the first line of the report but do not add for any other doctor" and "on this account, you must add the CCs to the report as well as to the cc list and sorry but you are not paid to do that, but you must do it anyway and dont forget to verify that address because that is a HIPAA violation if you dont."

Is that enough to make you want to stab your own eye out with a pencil yet?

Thx for all the input. I will definitely start looking a bit harder for a different job :(

If you're work goes to MQ, I would look for work at a different company rather than go to MQ. I have worked for them and all of our work in the SE region got off-shored to India except for the very worst of the worst dictators. It was then impossible to make any money. It all depends on what region they put you in. My friend works in a different region and always has work and it is good work. But, I wouldn't take the chance!

It's called the Circle of Life, or as I call it, the - Kiki

[ In Reply To ..]
Circle of Death. I've heard too many stories of MTs finally breaking free of MQ only to be forced back in when MQ buys that company. So they try to find another job still, and MQ sucks that one up too. Back to square one. That's why I'm afraid to look elsewhere....I think I'll just end up back here in the end, making even less than I already am. Sad but true. Gonna be dropping to PT soon as, as CCM states, "the workload is going to be getting lighter so we will have too many MTs so some of you will be moved to other accounts" Here we go again. Just when you think you have your 16 accounts semi-memorized, you will get switched to 19 new ones.

So true, Kiki - Former MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Yup, and that circle is exactly why I didn't even bother looking in the MT field when I needed to move on. It was stressful enough going through all the buyout, benefit, pay cut, account of 10 years getting off-shored just once. No way could I go through it all again and remain a sane person. Best advice start putting your foot out the door now. I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way, but those who do not learn from the past are conedemmed to repeat it.

Statutory Employee Vs. Traditional Employee Status Inquiry

I'm seeing more and more job postings for statutory employee status.  I'm trying to figure out what an appropriate line rate request equivalent would be since I would be responsible for withholding income taxes.  For example if the traditional employee line rate is 8 cpl for transcription what would I need to request for statutory status?  The same or more? ...

Which Is Better, Employee Or IC?
Dec 16, 2014

I am a part time employee of an MTSO. In California the min wage is $9/hr, which means at 0.85/line for editing my LPH must add up to $9, while MTs in other states may only have to make $7.50 or so to remain employed. My Team Leader said that is somewhat unfortunate for me; as a 1 year out-of-school newbie I'm not as fast as other MTs.  A few years ago I was an IC and I recall they did have a minimum line count per day but I don't recall having to produce more than ...

IC Versus Employee
May 14, 2011

This post is not what you probably thought it was going to be.  I am not going to list the pros and cons of being an IC or am employee. It appears that MTSOs are "fudging" on these two classifications of workers to get the advantages. For example, as an IC you make your own hours.  There is no schedule; that is the nature of being an IC.  Yet these MTSOs want you to work a set schedule.  Another example:  You are hired as an employee.   Because you're an employee, you shoul ...
