Anybody get depressed and just log off? - Tears on my keyboard

Posted: Oct 19, 2009

I'm so depressed, I could just cry. I am getting report after report of the worst mush-mouth, slurring/blurring CRAPPY dictators. I finally just logged off. Still have 4 hours to go and I just can't face leaving 15 blanks in every report.  Especially now that we have been told by our QC that we are being graded "harshly."  I have tried to leave 3 times and have made less than with the Q and came back.  I would go to Walmart, but a friend of our who works there just told us this morning that they raised the insurance premiums and her deductible to $3000 yearly.

Just wanted to vent/cry. Thanks

I understand completely. I just logged off, too, and it's not the end of my shift. If I get one more horrible dictation, I will cry, too. I'm tired of doing 100% ESL. I accepted another job this morning. I'm going to work FT for this other company and, hopefully, MQ will let me go PT with them.

100% ESL - poor dictation means less than minimum wage - TiredOfCrapMT

You are not alone. Scroll down the page and you will see other posts where MTs typing from 100% ESLs you also get poor audio quality. MQ does not care. Only concern is making more money to pay MTs less. Something has to give. This is just not right. They scheme and scheme against MTs constantly to pay less. Look at all the work MMEs have to do now for less pay. This is a shameful job now. I too am always embarassed to say what job I have. All of my nieces and younger cousins make at least $8 or $9 an hour and are in high school.

I would say... - mt

[ In Reply To ..]
It's more like we have respectable jobs, working for shameful companies. I gave up the work at home MT for a dependable salary as outside MT. The worry about how the bills are going to be paid is gone.

I'm right there with you. - Scooby-Doo

I have 2 full-time jobs so can't lose any time to log off but I often feel like it. I find that I'm burning out more and more with these horrible dictations which take longer and longer to correct in ASR. MQ has no idea nor do they care what working like this does to us; they just want us to crank it out faster and faster, and without any mistakes. That takes its inevitable toll on us.

I feel your pain. I had 148 lph last pay period and 20% to "QA." I pour myself into it and just can't get past the ESL and docs who obviously feel the dictation part of their job is not that important. I have done this for 15 years and feel like I am free-falling backwards. Hate logging on every day and it's everything I can do to keep going.

Another thing, talk about depression - oops

[ In Reply To ..]
I have been on "production management?" since I think May, can't even remember what it's called, because 60 days after coming back to Medquist I was not at 12% QA submission rate, also for lph. Haven't heard another word. Don't even know if I am still on it but afraid to ask. Ya, I'm depressed.

Another soggy keyboard - sheer frustration

I think for the most part, we all are in the same boat.

I had a horrible 8-hour shift for the Q and then went onto my 2nd job, only to receive a phone call that I had a report come back from the doctor! Ugh. I even sent this one to QA and they left 5 blanks in it, but it still came back to me!

This job must be more depressing than lining caskets for a living.

I think I am going to start my own pooper-scooper business. At least then when I am knee deep in poop it is of my own will.

My second job IS scooping poop - Scooby-Doo

[ In Reply To ..]
that is, I raise poodles. But scooping the stuff from my puppies is so much more pleasant than shoveling it for the Q.

I LOVE IT! Even my husband laughed. I GIVE YOU ALL CREDIT!!!! - Sunshine.

[ In Reply To ..]
Talk about being depressed! I GIVE YOU ALL CREDIT because you are working at least one full time job and either ANOTHER part time job or even ANOTHER full time job.

I am having a hard time typing just 24-26 hours a week with this job. I watch all my daughter's teenager friends make more money than I do. I have literally had it with 23 years of this CRAP! I applaud you all for working as much as you do!!!
My niece, my brother make more - Scooby-Doo
[ In Reply To ..]
The last time I had dinner with my brother's family I was so embarassed to discuss my job. My 21-year-old niece has been working part-time while going to college and makes $20 an hour. My brother just had hip surgery and the day after surgery while laying in the hospital bed he made $12,000 when his employee drummed up another account for him. He laughed saying he made $12K sitting on his butt. I just kind of sat there looking ill and told them I also make $12K sitting on my butt, but it takes me a year to do it.

then you deserve a scooby snack (nm) - steady eddie

sorry to hear it from another - so true

I feel your pain and sending a hug your way. You aren't alone. The logging off and balling at my desk or escape into the bathroom if the kids are around is becoming a regular part of this job, at least a few times a month.

I hope MANAGEMENT is reading all of these posts. Not that they care but hopefully someone with a little bit of passion and a brain can understand what they are doing to all of the good MTs. This is really sad and I am crying just reading all of this. Is it fair to put all of those DOLLARS in their pockets for the heartache they are causing? They have brought transcription to the lowest when it use to be a great profession. This is really sad. I am so FED UP with MQ. They are the worst company I have ever seen.

In the same sinking boat - mom2huskies

[ In Reply To ..]
I feel for you. I work for a different company, Spheris. Different company but a sinking boat nonetheless. It really sucks here too with almost all ESLs and VR.

Sorry for posting here but I just wanted to let you know that Spheris is just as bad.

Anyways, I hope things turn around for you at the Q.

Resumes/Leaving - Come on, Vikes! Beat the Streelers Sunday! Hubba

[ In Reply To ..]
I feel very sad saying this but on Sunday, I will be updating my resume and searching the 'Net for another home MT job. My previous employer asked me to come back a few weeks ago and I turned her down - a little less money and NO PTO.

Now, I know people don't like to give out names of good companies they are working for so those companies don't get flooded with resumes, but do any of you know of any ones out there with good reputations, or at least ones who don't rip you off? Something not quite so funny happened to me right before bed last night - my lines finally caught up with me. I printed everything out, matched up the dictation and job ID numbers, was only missing 3 dictations and had over 4500 lines of work. This morning, guess what? Most of it was gone again. MQ has made me very smart. I had copied and pasted EVERYTHING to word documents but I found a couple of them corrupted this morning. Now *that* is scary, but I still have the one for four days this with with over 4500 lines. I know it was really paranoid, but my printer isn't working and I didn't want to print it out at all at home, so I called Hubby at work, sent him the file and had him print 3 copies. They will be put into a fireproof box with the keys will hidden. I don't want to end up like Vince Foster. No, I'm not into conspiracies or anything. I do know our gov't hides a lot of stuff from us but I believe in the moon landing and the Holocaust.

Anyway, I am truly sad about leaving. I really only got upset with MQ one time when they dropped our ASR rate so shortly after starting the program. I really like my supervisor, her supervisor and the one who supervises the both of them plus me and my subordinates. They're all really great, and make sure I have enough work to do, are all really fair with me and always willing to help. My husband doesn't seem to understand why I'm reluctant to change jobs yet again, especially when they're ripping me off. We'll, let's see - he's has 2 jobs since he joined the military. Since we got married, I've had to change jobs something like 7 or 8 times, maybe more. I've lost count. I've about had enough and would like to work somewhere long term where I can retire from. *Sigh* Since Hubby is working afternoons, perhaps I'll go out and get a large Arby's roast beef sandwich, a large order of potato cakes and something massively chocolate, plus a carton of cigarettes. I'll share everything but the chocolate with the puggies and smoke until my lungs hurt. Then, I'll probably take a Xanax or two and go to bed. I must be crazy. I've yet to see anyone unhappy about leaving the big M, especially after having their money stolen right out from under them. I'm just getting too old to keep moving around with jobs and having to learn new systems, etc. And I'm just very very tired.

Take care, all, and God Bless. Many pug hugs to you all but you'd better have some kind of dog hair remover handy for afterward. LOL!

I too am looking elsewhere. All my CCMs have been very nice. Everyone I've ever dealt with has been extremely polite and seemingly helpful. But that doesn't mean they're not lying through their teeth to you. You don't owe MQ anything. They've lied to you, cheated you out of money, and sweet talked you during the whole process so you wouldn't make waves. If you find a good, reputable company let us know. I've been with MQ almost 6 years and don't want to have to start over somewhere else either, but it looks like it's time to move on now. Likewise, if I find something that looks promising, I'll share it.

I'll tell you what else is depressing - Foz

I recently started on Facebook and was happy to reconnect with some old college & high school friends.  Then I started hearing about how some of them are actually retired from their lucrative careers or just back from some exotic vacation & I'm struggling to buy groceries.  Cry

I TOTALLY relate. I had the same account for 5-1/2 years that I absolutely loved. And it was not ASR. Then, suddenly, mysteriously, there was no work available anymore. I mean, all of a sudden, just NO jobs ever. So after about 6 months of NJA I told my CCM that I needed a new account. So I ended up with a crappy 99% ASR account with non-English speaking doctors. I wont call them ESL because they don't speak English well enough for it to be considered a second language, IMO. So now I totally dread logging on and barely manage to make it through each report. I work only the minimum hours required and if I have to leave 37 blanks per report, then so be it. I'm not wasting my entire day relistening to these a-holes who absolutely refuse to even try to speak halfway clearly. I'm to the point where I just don't care anymore if I have this job or not. I'm looking for something else. Maybe a small local private account with a doctor's office. I hate doing multiple hospitals full of non-English speaking dictators. I used to be able to make a living doing this, now I'm losing my house and my mind along with it. Seriously, I just don't even care anymore.

Don't quit caring. Just care for yourself. MQ is going to look out for themselves, so you look out for yourself. I don't blame you for looking elsewhere. Some days I consider McDonalds a step up. But just don't quit caring. Don't let them do that to you.

depressed too - hate it

[ In Reply To ..]
I absolutely HATE my job at the Q. I dread logging on at all and am very frustrated with the ESL doctors. I once got so frustrated I slammed my fists into the keyboard and broke it. I am seriously considering getting out of this profession totally and working at Barnes and Noble FT. At least I would be around something I love...Books.

Just Very Depressed
Nov 30, 2009

I know a lot of you are going through this...I totally understand.  I am in radiology and the workload has been so slow.  This has been going on even before the holidays, especially after I got moved to a different CCM.  She only wants to change my schedule which, according to her emails, would be foolish since the times she wants me to move to have no work either.  I would go above her but what good would that do? I have been actively applying to other places...but haven ...

Has Anyone Gotten Depressed About Sm
Apr 25, 2011

Has anyone gotten so depressed about how their transcription jobs are practically gone that they don't even want to sign in.  This morning I said why bother.  I am thinking of quitting because I waste time just sitting for eight hours. I would have to cut back big time but it is getting to depressing to sit here.  ...

Really Depressed
Nov 22, 2011

I just started with a new company and am really depressed about the "corrections" I am getting back from their QA.  I have 35+ years of experience and yet I can't seem to do anything to please them.  I'm told to type verbatim, but when I do, they "correct" that, stating I left "the" off when it was never dictated, etc., and other stupid things similar to that.  I am to the point where I wonder if I will ever please them because it seems that no matter what I do, they are ...

Getting Depressed Over Reports
Jan 03, 2010

I find that lately I am feeling depressed over the reports I've been transcribing.  Maybe it's because it's the holiday season and I can't help but feel badly for these people who are so very sick (I do acute care).  Lots of oncology these days, for some reason.  I wonder how MTs who transcribe for childrens' hospitals or cancer clinics handle it.  It must get to them. ...

Frustrated And Depressed
Apr 01, 2010

Is there anyone out there that is making the same or more money with MQ since all this has changed. I am an MME and I just cannot seem to make any money.   I try so hard to make ends meet, this is going to be the first time I will not be able to make my car payment.   When I get on a roll the system seems freeze up or I just get horrible dictators the rest of my shift.  I feel alone? If there was someone who can tell me, they are able to stay at same rate, then I can ...

Really Getting Frustrated And Depressed
Oct 08, 2010

I have been a stay at home mom since my son was born. During that time I also became a cancer survivor(ovarian). When my son started kindergarten, I decided to go back to school. Since medical transcription is really the only legitimate work you can do from home, I decided to go that route. I was amazed at the schooling and surprised at how well I did. I thought for sure, being an older student and out of the education loop for a while that I wouldn't do well. But I surprised myself. I real ...

Already Depressed And The Q Just Made My Day. NOT
Jul 11, 2011

I cannot take much more.  Those of you who don't have any compassion or feel the need to ever vent and just unload once in a while may stop reading now. I'm not writing to be bashed, stomped on, mashed, or otherwise abused and used more than the Q already does.  I catch this crap from them every day, I don't need to hear it from fellow MTs. We are all in this same rocking, sinking, Titanic together.  To make a very long story short here's the abbreviated vers ...

Totally Depressed!
Nov 15, 2012

My net pay didn't even hit 20K this year!  And then I see that MM is advertising for more MT's, and I haven't had a full day in over 2 weeks?  What is really going on here?    Okay, done venting now.  Thanks for listening! ...

Depressed With Work MT
Sep 19, 2013

I just started my first job as an mt nearly five months ago. I've struggled with production, quality, and pretty much any other issue you can think of. I've gotten more and more depressed because my confidence at work isn't good. I've been diagnosed with major depression before, so iknow itsnot the only reason. It just feels like it.   I have a lot of trouble concentrating when i have these upsetting bouts of depression. I had one today and only got 500 lines. I was ho ...

Broke, Depressed, And Can't Find A Job
Jun 24, 2010

I guess I'm just venting, but suggestions are welcome. The title says it all in a nutshell, but let me explain. I don't have any money. I am relying on someone else to buy food for me every week. I don't have a job and can't find one. I would give up MT and start applying outside the house, but I can't because I am depressed and have severe social anxiety disorder, so that won't work. If I am getting more depressed by the minute. If I even could get a part-time job, ...

I am so depressed. I guess I am trying to vent to you guys. I have taken 4 tests for companies and failed all  of them. I didnt even get an answer back from one. I have been doing this for years. I feel like a dummy. I dont think there are any good companies out there that any one of us can trust. I havent found one. I have sent out my resumes to at least 25 companies I got through my school and on the internet. I also was soooooo scammed through Dit transcription. I just dont know what to ...

MT Training - Depressed, Discouraged
Aug 28, 2010

I graduated back in May of this year, from the MT program at a local two-year college. The program was a one-year program, but due to the way the required courses were scheduled, it took two years of attending full-time to finish it. I'm starting to wish I had discovered MTStars before I enrolled in the program; if I had known then what I know now about the MT field, it would have saved me almost $10,000 in tuition for training that feels worthless now! As I read postings by experienced ...

Depressed, Frustrated, MT Sucks!
Jan 29, 2015

So, remember the days way back when we got paid well, were appreciated and could be happy to be MT? Wow I miss that! I hate MTSOs. They all act like we only have work to worry about, they trash you, but never say any good you do. One trainer or QC person grades your work as 99%-100%, another picks apart every comma, period, etc. calling things "critical errors", that honestly aren't! You ask to advance in your position, but no "you're not ready" (after 15 years and previously being a ...

Editing VR In BeyondTxt Has Made Me Severely Depressed.
May 02, 2010

I have never felt more worthless in my life.  I work for about half the pay, it takes longer to do because the drafts are so awful.  You get marked down if you don't use shortcut keys to navigate or whatever and the object is to keep you fingers on the keyboard, but you cannot keep them in the position you need to for transcribing or fixing all the problems.   I find my right hand is always on the control+delete key or end key, and my fingers constantly on the period or ...
