I posted back in June as nervous about looking for a new job...well, I did it! I had a first and second interview at this hospital job, in-house, hourly, and I have just confirmed that I'm hired! Wow, it's been 15 years with various companies eaten up by M*Modal. I can't wait to start.

You know--I actually have felt my depression lifting. I hope it lasts. I realize that I've missed contact with the outside world. I don't need to be at home anymore really, my kids are older. I have been feeling a little better. Hope it lasts. I start in about 2 weeks.

I signed up with Indeed.com, which is free, put in key words, and got emails when a new job was posted--that is how I heard about the opening.

I applied on another site, but will add Indeed.com. I also have an appointment with a company that places medical personnel for next week. I miss contact as well!! Congrats for making the effort and succeeding!!!!

I've been thinking about this a lot today so your post is timely. I have been very nervous about getting an out-of-the-house job. I am realizing I cannot afford to work here for more than a few more months, savings dwindling. I am starting to feel desperate, but your post helps me to feel hopeful again. See what's out there by going online, I really recommend that. Some of the email responses I got were wrong, like "phlebotomist" and maybe it just included the word "medical" in there somewhere, instead of the whole MT key phrase. The interview wasn't bad at all, and I was not self-conscious about being size 18. I am able to find cute clothes at TJ Maxx and even Goodwill, where I found a couple of black skirts that'll work with a cute top.

I didn't even notice that it said "paints" -- I read it as "pants." :-) And I used to CONSISTENTLY get 100% QA scores on my straight-transcription reports! That's what ASR has done to me....boo hoo.

Is this for transcription, or did you have to branch out into another area?

I've been trying to branch out into something else within a hospital or clinic setting, but can't seem to get considered for anything but transcription. I live in a pretty big city, and I guess there are a LOT of other applicants who already have experience at being a Patient Service Rep or Outpatient Scheduler, etc.

I did get a phone interview for a transcription job, but they were only looking for night shifts, which I didn't think I wanted to do (working until 11:30 p.m. and later when overtime is needed), so I passed on it. I'm kind of kicking myself now, months into my fruitless search, even though I still don't think late nights would work very well for me.

Well, whatever you'll be doing, best of luck! Hooray for the great opportunity!

I guess I need to keep seeking out something that has at least SOME transcription duties. Switching to tapes might be a piece of cake for you, considering everything else you've probably put up with lately!

My family has noticed a huge change in my state of mind. I feel like a huge weight is off of me. My new coworkers are very nice. I have times during the day when I don't have to be keyboarding and nobody is e-mailing me chastizing me about it. I hope your new job is just as amazing.

Is there is quick way to add commas between items in a list? Of course, using Ctl K in front a word will change the punctuation, but it will also change a capitalized drug to lower case, and you will still have to get to the beginning of the next drug which will require 2 Ctl arrows and backspace. Ctl arrow takes you to the beginning of the next word, but you will have to backspace to put in the comma. Adding punctuation to lists is so time consuming! ...

If you are filling out a job application and it asks you what your last pay was at your last job, what do you put if Nuance is your last job? How do you write that? Just put 7 cpl? If you put starting pay and then ending pay, isnt that going to look terrible on you? Like they lowered YOUR pay so much as compared to when you started. I'm having trouble with the format of this psych consult. Under the DIAGNOSIS heading, the dictator lists the Axes as follows: Axis I: Adjustment disorder with anxiety, moderate in degree. Then he says, "new paragraph" but continues on with Axis I to say "Psychogenic amnesia." Then he says, "new paragraph" again and goes on with Axes II thru V. Since we have a (lengthy) Do Not Use list, I think the doctors should be versed in proper dictating form with a Do Not Dictate list to include "next", "next number", "new line", "skip line", "and", and "uh, uh, uh" and all those other little irritating words that ASR loves! Charge them 3 cents MORE per line of dictation if they can't maintain 98% with no blanks sent back to them!!!!!!!! ...

Here are some of my observances of chronic ASR errors, though sometimes it gets it right. Most are not a biggie, but one could get marked down on an audit. 1. BiPaP. Should be BiPAP. 2.
