A request from an MME - giving up on jobs

I just typed three-quarters of a report out because the MT gave up after doing a quarter of it. This wasn't sent by accident because there was a QA not stating that she couldn't understand the dictator. I'm not angry, but want to relay that if you really can't understand the dictator, either push on through to the end or, as a last resort, break it and let your CCM know immediately with the job number. You will lose anything you type, but that's the price to pay. There just may be somebody who could understand that doc fine. I was able to do that report without much issue.

As an MME, we only get credit (at 3 cpl) for lines that are typed by the original MT. Anything we add we don't get paid for. So if an MT leaves only 1 line and gives up on the rest and sends to an MME and that MME types 50 lines, that MME only gets 3 cents for the time spent on that report.

why would you work for those terms? - not being snarky, I really want to know

So, you're working for the company for free, then, essentially in the situation you described above.

I don't understand why those terms are acceptable to anyone. I'm not saying this to slam anyone or be judgmental. I don't do anything for my employer for free.

They make it sound like a promotion - Luckily, I still am able to make almost the same

The MME position is made to sound as a promotion. In the BOB I was in, the MME position came with a 5% raise of your base rate, 3 cpl to fill in blanks, and 4 cpl for a full review.

For the most part, I've been able to make about even from what I made as an MT/ME, but I actually don't get a lot of QA work anymore, especially since First Time Right. When India was on full review for all their work, my pay went down for a bit, but for my BOB, I don't see many ILP anymore (when I do they are still awful). Occasionally, I get a report such as stated in the previous post. It's not very often and usually due to a new hire.

The fact that we do not get credit for what we type as QA is never mentioned; in fact, I only found out about it while looking through my stats and my CCM confirmed it.

Report that MT. Escalate the issue. This should be considered a critical error, simply because that MT isn't doing his/her job.

I'm an MT and I've shed plenty of tears over frustrating and horrible reports, but I worked through them and became a better MT in the process.

It's about MT integrity, no matter what we're paid.

MTs get them, too. I don't know how many - times I got a report

that had been started and apparently was too "hard" and they abandoned it thinking that all their edits would be lost and nobody would "know." I would get angry every time.

MTs are not allowed to do that. Turn her in to your CCM so you can - get credit for typing it. NM

Because I have had reports where for whatever reason I just could not hear them and QA somehow managed to get through...I do go all the way through and leave as few markers as possible..Do you prefer I do that or break the job as you say??? Keeping in mind that my CCM NEVER acknowledges my existence..I have turned in suspected cherry picking and never got a response either..

Although a report with dozens of markers all the way to the end may only pay a little bit more than giving up and putting 1 marker for the last three-quarters of the report, at least I know you gave it a good try and are attempting to learn the dictator. The more you type even the mushiest mouth dictator, the better you get at him/her and you get the ear for their mushiness. For me, even by the end of the report I have a better grasp on this new language, and can go back to the beginning and fill in a lot of blanks left previously.

I always want to make your job easier..for the life of me I never understand how you find half of the stuff some of these docs say..I always go through the reports like that once and then again, I will stay with a report for an hour or so just to learn what the heck they are saying..I go back through old reports also..They arent going to change so I have to invest the time to learn,,,cherry pickers and people that dump on QA like you said are just a pain in the butt to people that actually do the job...Been at it almost 15 years so I kind of heard it all,,,but every new account has those dictators that are just awful..I also seem to have a lot of trouble with female docs for some reason..I make shortcuts for every doc, its the only way to survive

And make sure you get in at least your minimum lines and keep your hands on the keyboard at all times and never use your mouse and never use the bathroom during your shift.

Thanks for explaining that. I am just a MT, but I have gotten reports in the past where there were blanks to fill in and on listening to it only half of the report had been typed, so I went ahead and made the corrections and finished the report.

Is it possible they lost the voice file and did not - want to lose their lines? see msg

I know that happened to me, but it was a straight typing report and I didn't have any blanks, got to the end and DQS froze up. I was able to copy the report and paste it into wordpad hoping that after I restarted and logged back in the job would come up as reserved, which usually happens.

Unfortunately in this case, the job didn't come back and I lost those lines. I was ticked to say the least it was an extremely lengthy OP note, all straight typing and it never came back in my que when I restarted and logged back in.

Im sure somebody got some quick and easy lines of that one.

With that particular example, I did mean I would get 3 cents for the entire report as the MT only sent 1 line through, whether I typed 50 or not.

Ask your CCM tonight to temporarily help out in the South if you are NJA. I hate to draw people to my accounts and risk running out of work, but considering these accounts are going to go late in a couple of hours and they have already threatened to leave if TATs aren't met, it's worth the risk. So last week I was "off the grid" at 98 something percent. Okay, so I'm getting 8 cents a line for that week. So, for this week since Saturday (I work Sat-Tues) they have done NO audits at all. it seems like when I request time off, maybe for 4 lousy hours or whether it be a whole day I either get audited or have a meaningless 1.9 long report come back to me within 20 minutes of requesting time off which the report had the word "the" left out which did not change the report "only educational for the MT" . Her CCM has told her to request PTO hours using TW. She (and I) have searched every buttom, menu, and left-click pick-list we could find, with no joy, in that miserably travesty of software. She called 1 800 dictate and the nice Indian gentleman there first proved he was even more ignorant of what TW can do then we are, then firmly stated that it "can't be done. Ask your CCM to do it."
