I have been accepted to law school! I went back to college about a year after returning to the Q after a long absence. When I saw how things had changed in the industry and at the Q, I realized that MT was not going to be a reliable source of income for me for more than a couple more years. I ended up leaving the Q shortly after starting college, also, and check in here now and then to see how bad things are. I do not doubt my decisions for a second after just spending 5-10 minutes a week on this page!!! I AM still working as an MT, but I took on full-time college in addition to part-time MT. I'm in my 40's, and I still have kids at home. It has been a handful, no doubt, but I have a 4.0 GPA and am also being offered merit scholarships to law schools. Very definitely well worth the time!
Anyway, my point is this: Thanks to the abysmal state of the MT industry and my husband being laid off 2-1/2 years ago with only staffing agency short-term jobs since (mostly unemployment tho), I qualified for 100% Pell grants and also state grants and also student loans (had to get the loans in order to eat, but the Pell and state grants would have paid the tuition without the loans being needed).
There is hope! The very first step is to CHOOSE to do something else. The next step is to CHOOSE what that something else will be - what inspires you? what makes you excited to wake up in the morning? Find a way to turn that into a paying career!!!!
