Hello. I have been doing transcription at home for 15 years. I am looking for new employment opportunities. I have always been paid hourly, but now it seems everyone is paying by line. Could someone please tell me if I type 7000 lines a week, how many hours is that? Thank you.

The company I work for requires that we do at least 1200 lines a day or 6000 lines in a 40 hour week. Hope this helps. Good luck to you

It depends on how fast you type. On average in a 40 hour week I do 6000 to 7000 lines or a little above. So if you are typing at a good pace 7000 lines is probably 40 hours. Hope that helps.

I have been on one platform where I could do 300+ and another I couldn't get past 150. Then there is do they count spaces? do they count headers/footers? That makes a huge difference. You cant say how long will it take me because there are so many variables. Then there is whether you are straight typing or editing. You should be able to figure out from where you were working at the hospital. didn't they keep track of how much production you were getting?

Guess each of us is different as to lines. The hospital I retired from last year; a combination of voice recognition and straight typing, we were told we HAD to type 2,000 lines for each eight-hour shift; if not, we would get in trouble! That comes out to 10,000 lines for a 40-hour week! My "comfort zone" for straight typing has always been about 200 lines per hour. As far as voice recognition jobs, I really don't care what I did!

Too many variables to give you an accurate answer, which is one of the main reasons this job should pay EVERYONE by the hour and not by the line and then have production incentives on top of that hourly rate.

For instance, on a good day I can average 300+ lines an hour with straight typing. Then I get a report like I just had where it was a very difficult ESL and I had to research every freaking MD name, in addition to the system being slow. That just slaughtered my average, and if this is an indicator as to how my day is going to roll, it is going to take me 10 hours to do what I would normally do in just 6. And it kills my mojo in such a way that I do not want to load another job, which is why I'm on here.

There is no way to know. If you are typing 7000 lines a week, you have no idea if you'll be typing 7000 lines a week in your "new employment opportunities." If you work for one of the biggies, you will have multiple accounts with multiple account specs and hundreds of dictators.

What I'm trying to say is that just because you could do 7000 a week at your current job, it doesn't mean you will at your next job.

I edit 16000 lines a week - 40 hour week.

There was a post last week on Nuance pay discrepancies. I had a 3 hour discrepancy, didn't think too much of it. I thought maybe I made a mistake. This time it is a 5 hour discrepancy. I know I didn't make a 5 hour mistake on my time punches. My lines are not what they should be either. I am about to find another job. I don't make enough as it is without being shorted. Ok, I'm not as fast as I used to be and the doctors keep giving names of physicians that are not on their list and are spelled different ways so I take the time to look them up because blanks are not a thing I like to leave on a report. Today we get an email that we can no longer work off the clock which for me is a problem.
