Hi everyone. My supervisor recently added a new account to my pool and made it priority #1. Now I was just starting to get my line count up to where I could actually earn a decent living to support myself (I am newly divorced and trying to make it on my own in a 1 bedroom apartment yet still very tight). A little background--our company recently switched to M-Modal and the voice quality is horrible on a lot of reports and my pay had gone down anyway because a good majority of our reports are on speech recognition now. The only thing that started to help me is I was finally getting enough lines to get a production bonus and maybe make what I used to before we switched to M-Modal. Now, I can't reach that bonus because of the new account that has been made #1 in my pool. I emailed my boss and told her my problem and I didn't hear back. Now I'm not looking to be greedy, but I NEED the money in order to survive, especially since I'm the only breadwinner now. Does the supervisor have the right to alter your pool like that, even if it is negatively affecting your production and your income? I'm really annoyed.

I am a former Medquist employee (tier 3) who, because QA had "personal preferences" was placed on the 3 cpl dock in pay. As a result, I was going to be making approximately $40 per 8 hour work day....unacceptable. As a result, I was punished by being fired. Fine, I thought...I can do this on unemployment. Wrong! My state sided with them on appeal saying I had no reason to leave my job, ergo, nothing for me.

So, there we go.. they can do pretty much what they want. We are all "at will" workers.

to whichever MT they want. We have no control over that as an employee. You take what they give you--just like we have no control over whether we to straight transcription or voice recognition. You will more than likely get your count back up eventually, just as before. As for a response, what do you actually think they would say--Sorry about that, let's switch you back. No way that is going to happen.

I am currently on straight transcription, however after the first of the year my account is going 100% VR. We were asked our opinions on this, which I gave, but no response. Just gotten go with it.

Once they have an MT who is getting their production levels up to the point where they qualify for production bonuses or to the point where they qualify for the benefits program, they will purposely add new accounts and/or switch pools around to get your production level back down to a level where you won't qualify.

Unscrupulous? YES!!! But, don't shoot the messenger. This was actually told to me by one of the higher ups at a national MTSO who was also a personal friend.

Just shoot me now. I had some great accounts that are outside my area coming in. Unfortunately, now my regular accounts are showing up and my count is taking its usual dive. Bad audio, crummy output. It is still 150 lines/hr for straight isn't it? (I think I've gotten a total of 3 straight transcription jobs in the last month). So, is it 150 lines for VR too, which is what the majority of our work is? Or is the line requirement much higher for VR? This is all assuming there is work of course........ ...

I was just hired on with a company to do strictly VR. I am only going to be working part time so about 4 hours a day. I am wondering from those who do VR what kind of line production should I shoot for in 4 hours of work? What is the normal VR line count for part time? I have read that most who are working full time or 8 hours a day are doing more than 1,000, even 2,000 a day. The company I will be working for wants a minimum of 10,000 lines in a payperiod which the lady said even with part time ...

Is this correct? I type 70,000 characters a day. I am paid by the 65 character line so I would divide 70,000 by 65 to get 1076, then multiple that by pay per line, say $.10 and get $107. If this is not correct then what is the formula? And what is the average number of lines per day? Thanks so much for the info. ...

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is the easiest way to not count template lines when trying to invoice? I get a line count through Word, but I hear that Word counts blank spaces as well. I downloaded and use Flash Count, but it includes all 65 character lines, I beleive including the template headings. I hope this makes sense. Please help!! ...

I have been working for this company for about 18 month and so far so good. It was even bought out by a bigger company and everything stayed the same with no problems. They don't bother me, I do my work and everything is fine. I have been told that I need to increase my LPH. So last night I kept track of the lines of each document done by using MS Word. But later when I compared it to Nuance's line tracker (ichart) it only listed half the lines that MS Word listed. How can this be? So far, I have calculated the "count score" on Fluency at the new rate of 0.08/.048 vs per report rate. I 'lost' on average $165-175 per pay period over the past 3 months by the line count. My report rates are currently 1.20/.072. Anyone else? Please share. Also, the 'count score' is our line count, right?? ...

I used to do 250-275 lph fairly easily. Lately, I am typing as fast and furious as ever and struggle to get above 200 lph. Not sure what is going on, but I'm pretty sure it ain't me. Is it typical to only receive a percentage of your edited lines because "editing is faster and better" than straight transcription? I am new to VR, but this seems odd to me. What in the heck does .05 for every 43 black characters equal out to. It doesn't sound good but I'm no math whiz. Maybe, I'm missing something and who pays like that.
