With heavy heart - Rose
Posted: May 24, 2013
It is with heavy heart that I am giving up my career as a transcriptionist. After 19 years of transcription, with all the changes to the industry, I can no longer make the kind of money I used to make without working multiple jobs and endless hours just to get a decent line count.
I have taken a wonderful position in another industry and I am looking forward to my new adventure. First time in many years (longer than I can remember), I will be working Monday through Friday with all the holidays off.
I am going to miss transcription, as I enjoyed my duties for many years. I wish everyone the best in life.
Sad... - I left, too

I left in December 2012. People ask me if I miss medical transcription. I say "I miss what it used to be." I shed many a tear a few years ago, mourned the loss of what it once was. I'm a long-timer as well (15 years in the biz), and it all went bad probably 7 years ago. Got worse and worse and worse until I had to admit it's not going to get better (at least not in my working lifetime!)
I totally do not miss what it has become. In fact, the whole thing is a HUGE weight off my chest.
I, too, took a M-F, 9-5, paid holidays job in a small office just doing clerical work.

It has changed a lot. The hospital closed the transcription department down and replaced us all with scribes at 8 an hour. I tried working from home for a couple different companies since that time and just could not make ends meet with the lack of work. I was working two different jobs and still would run out of work often, yet be told "you must check in every hour for work." Many times I would do this and still have no work for my entire shift for both jobs. I wish you the very best in your new position.

I have made the same decision, have an interview next week for a records clerk at a rehab facility. It was a tough decision and I still have my moments where I think "just try one more company". I love being a transcriptionist. After 23 years I feel like a concert pianist, somehow I just hear the words and my fingers flow across the keyboard without thought. Just 3 years ago I was making 10 cpl and transcribing 1200 to 1500 lines in 6 hours. Now I fumble bumble around trying to do editing for 3 cpl and might get 1200 lines in 6 hours. I miss the days of being treated with respect, having the MTSO expressing gratitude for my dedication and skill, now there nothing is appreciated and nothing is good enough. I truly loved my work and will miss the days when it was a good job. Times are a changing. Good luck to everyone, whether you continue on or find something new.
I am also leaving - sad/relieved

I took a job as an office manager. Much better hours 9-5 M-F holidays off, better pay, and I was getting cabin fever being in the house all day.
So, long MT. I will miss you but am looking forward to my new adventure.

They Will Hire You - But You have to try
[ In Reply To ..]
Do not assume they won't hire you. You have to be proactive, as anyone else would have to be, young or "old." Go for it!
If anybody sits around waiting without trying (be it a 24-year-old or a 64-year-old), it won't happen. Our wishes don't just happen.

Shoot, 64 is young! I'm 69 and still looking at my options outside of transcription (began in 1962). You're only limited by the limitations you place on yourself!
Leaving soon too, - but no heavy heart.

I will be dancing and singing like Gene Kelly in "Singin' in the Rain." My only regret is that I didn't get out of this miserable cesspool 10 years ago.
wouldn't make me sad either - be glad

I would not miss this for a minute but so far I can't find anyone to hire me to do anything else.
All My Tears - are...

...for what this used to be, not what it is now. So, cry if you must, but cry for what it WAS. It will make it easier to leave.

Apr 07, 2012I hate these stupid headphones, they are heavy, I do not need a Britney Spears mic..and the cord twists onto itself so bad it is impossible to get a good fit.
