This sounded familiar. It's a quote from a popular TV series in the late 1980s. - Des

Posted: Nov 30, 2012

Episode Street of Shadows of The Twilight Zone series, originally aired 1/21/1989.

CONSULTANT:  Very nice, very nice indeed.

OWNER:  You’ll notice the growth in the 4th quarter profits.

CONSULTANT:  Yeah, I can see that, but I still want the audit pushed through.  If there is any way we can cut back on expenses (salary, budget, personnel), do it.

OWNER:  I have to tell you that there’s going to be some opposition.  They say they’re down to the bone as it is.

CONSULTANT:  (laughing) No, no, no, they’re not down to the bone.  You know how you can tell?  They always start to yell when you’ve hit a nerve, not bone.  By the time you get to the bone, they’ve stopped complaining, because they know they could be next.

OWNER:  I'll do what I can.

CONSULTANT:  You do that.

Just a little too familiar.

addendum: This is almost verbatim what I went through when our MT dept got outsourced. - Des (no message)

Aug 23, 2010

Interview was Wednesday.  The company gave me a start date, talked about pay, schedule, kind of work, all that good stuff like I definitely had the job.  They said the next step would be to send me an offer letter via email and then go from there.  Well, I haven't gotten the offer letter yet.  Just wondering about how long I should wait. ...

Most Productive/popular Abbrev Expander?
Oct 21, 2009

The company I work for is changing over to ChartNet, with its ExpandText expander. I don't like that it has no way of adding/creating new shortcuts without using the mouse. The expander I use now is not compatible with ChartNet, and I'm wondering which expander is used by the majority of MTs....has no limit to the number of expansions/abbrevs it can hold, etc. Would welcome any suggestions. Thinking about Shorthand, but wondering what most MTs are using. ...

Contrary To Popular Belief, The MT Field May
Aug 05, 2010

This is not a post for the newbie board, because I would like to address the experienced transcriptionists to talk ABOUT newbies. ("Address"? Is this a speech or something? ha ha) There was a thread on the newbie board recently concerning whether we (as experienced MTs) should be encouraging, or discouraging newbies, or whether it is any of our business at all what they do. The last word was that we should be kind to them, which we can all agree on. None of us like to see any newbie duped i ...

Before It's Too Late
Apr 29, 2010

A note below states company is hounding her about equipment that she returned.  Before this happens to you, TRACK your equipment online and when it's picked up by your company, print it out.  I'm keeping mine for at least a year, maybe forever.  It shows the date, time, exact location, person's name who received it, etc.  There would be no denying that at all. Please protect yourself!  It happens more than you'd like to think. ...

Late Pay
Apr 30, 2013

I need some advice. I am an IC who works for a transcription company and is constantly being paid late. I am currently 4 months behind on pay. My daily emails for pay are not being answered and there is no communication whatsoever at this point. I love the hospital I work for and have stayed with this company a long time because of this. It is very normal for me to be at least a month to 2 months behind on pay at all times, sometimes 3-4 months. As an IC, do I have any recourse? Is there anythin ...

Late Payment
Nov 14, 2013

So, I have worked for this person since 2007.  In the beginning everything was WONDERFUL.  Great to work for, plenty of work, fairly decent wage, etc.  Now for the last couple of years pay has been increasingly late.  I was originally set for pay days on the 1st and the 15th.  A couple of years ago it changed to the 5th and the 20th, which is fine, I can handle that.  that started being late so I said I would change it in my mind to the 10th and the 25th so I wouldn ...
