Had a new student MT ask me a ?  she said

Have you ever hear of an OP series? I can't find it anywhere!! Patient has a 10-day history of watery diarrhea and fecal impaction.
I have actually not had this myself.. and wondered if anyone can help her.. Thank you so much.. ;)

In the morning we will obtain an OP series to rule out obstruction or lesions. It's all pertaining to bowels.

I guess I'm thinking abbreviation. They usually say it as O and P, but he may be clipping it and just saying OP. OB, as stated, is also a very good possibility.

maybe OB series, as in occult blood? - elaine

Sounds Like A Series Of "guppies" Were Placed

Spinal surgery at L4-L5.  Sounds like... "incision was made...   a series of guppies were placed.  Dissection was carried down to the fascia"  and later again, "Guppies were placed deeper within the paraspinal musculature."  One sound is exactly like GUPPY.  The other one sounds a little like GOLPY or GULPY. ...


Use Of "or" Versus "and" In A Series

This has been bothering me. I have one provider who says in her ROS, for example: "The patient denies nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or melena." I think the "or" should be an "and," as the patient is denying each AND every one of these things, not this one OR that one. Of course, I understand what the provider is implying, but I think the correct word used should be "and," not "or." What do you think? If anyone can give and answer and back up with a grammatical rule, I would greatly appreciate it ...
