Question about multiple accounts - tired

Posted: Oct 28, 2009

I have five accounts that I currently work on - three are considered my "primaries" and two are "secondaries".  Does this seem like a lot or is it just me?  I have to switch between three different platforms to perform the work and on a daily basis I work in at least four of the accounts.  I'd love to find a position where I just had two, maybe even three accounts - does this even exist anymore?

Sounds like too much work for me - Older broad

At my job I work only 1, was offered a backup account but did not want at all and made that very clear. My primary usually has enough work each day that I work and if not, then I take the day off and let others work. This does not happen all that much but hey, a day or two a month really not that big a deal for me.

Sounds like too much, especially if they are on different platforms. I used to do that, but I was paid a higher line rate for switching around. I think 2 or 3 is okay. There are still companies where you have only 1-3 accounts. I work for more than one company - just to make sure I always have work, but currently only 1 or 2 accounts per company.

I do approx. 6 different accounts for my 1st job, same platform, but very different client profiles.

My 2nd job, I do 2 accounts,same platform.

It is a lot to focus on and it sucks.

TOOO much, ridiculous!! different acct specifics too??? - darlene

There are very different account specifics for all 5 accounts I work on. It is really hard to keep all the specifics straight and I'm about to crash and burn. I'm a hard worker and will always go above and beyond, but this is getting ridiculous!

IMO, too many accounts - no. Too many platforms - yes. I have 8 accounts but they are all on the same platform. I've been doing it so long they have all become second nature. Granted I do not have every one of them every day, which is good, but it is no big deal for me. If you don't like working that way, you can probably be taken off a few accounts or ask to just do accounts with the same platform.

When are these companies going to realize that this is counterproductive and when the MLS production goes down, the company production goes down. The company I work for has multiple accounts on the platform I use and are hiring for those accounts but my secondary is on a different platform, which I was just trained on. Would it not be more productive to leave me on one platform, if there are other accounts on that platform?

I have 4 accounts. Although I enjoy the variety, -sm - Zircon

the thing that really cuts my production and ability to make any money at this is all of the nit-picky little details you have to know about each account. All day long I bounce from hospital to hospital. Sometimes I don't even remember which account I'm on - they all start to blur together. Even though much of the account-specifics are on file for us to look up, each one has tons and tons of it! Each time the account I'm on flips over to something else, that means I have to go back and read some of the "fine print" before I start. For the life of me, I can't understand why the use of all this detail matters to the client. With the wraparound feature of most MT platforms, what they see at their end is a jumbled mess, anyway. And it would be a lot less so if we could just go about what we're hired for - transcribing - in a simple, generic block form. Picky, picky, picky.

here's a trick I use to save my MT sanity (long)...sm - flybye

I so agree with all of you; I remember back in the day when they told us that XTML was going to "do the formatting for us" and we could just plain type and the software would *poof* format everything for us...uh...NOT.... =)

I currently have 8 accounts (gratefully on the same platform) and all the client profiles are different; referring to paper or e-profiles slows me down, so I created a post-it listing the following (all abbreviated/coded to fit a 3x3 post-it):
Ac=Account ID (Initials and Numbers)
F=Format basic info (flush, bold, etc.)
D=Date format (6 or 8 digit)
Dx=Diagnoses (expanded or not)
Sl=Slang (verbatim, allowed or not, etc.)
PN=Patient Name (verbatim or replace)
A=Allergies (B=bold U=upper _=underline)
B=Blanks (<24 tat no QA, etc.)
Si=Signature (special instructions)

The last word on the note is AUTOSAVE =)

Now when I'm hopping back and forth between accounts I just glance at one tiny post-it on my monitor and it keeps my hands on the keyboard and my mind in the game...

You might consider something similar....

Of course, for those nit-picky specifics like... "Dr. Xzygkhywqpwn wants his mumbled diagnoses listed alphabetically and in outline format in Roman style while including his templated normal text" (that has ERRORS in it) and while he omits every third word...and while you twirl in your chair until he finishes eating his tongue... I don't have a solution....

can you tell i've had an irksome day?

=) hang in there! don't sweat the small stuff, and it's ALL small stuff!

Good idea about the Post-It notes... will have to try it! - Zircon

on the same platform, and manage alright. I keep cheat sheets for each, ie, differences in account specifics to keep in mind, and it's not been a big problem. Sure, I'd rather have enough on one, but am thankful to have what I need to keep busy too.

I used to have too many accounts too - sm -

I now have 4 and it can still be too much though I don't even break $1800 a month on them. I used to have have another 6 doctors (3 accounts) but gave up 2, then recently gave up the one with 4 docs. Life is a bit more normal now. I was constantly behind before and would get 180 mins a day consistently sometimes, just way too much as I can at most do 100 mins a day, so I was just chasing my tail and pissing off doctors. If you are always out of TAT then yes, you have too much work. I still get behind at times but that is because one of my doctor's is lazy and does not do his dictation daily, then he dumps on me causing mega problems. But I am down to 130 mins a day at the most now and generally receive about 90 mins a day which is much more manageable. I still get behind sometimes due to kids activities, illness, etc., but not going so crazy now. I might actually get to have a day off this weekend as this week has been pretty good for a change!

Working On Multiple Accounts
Apr 30, 2010

I work for an MTSO and have been given 4 accounts. After my first one ran out of work they gave me another, and then when that one ran out they gave me another and so on and so forth. My primary and secondary accounts I like, they are basically sister hospitals and are pretty similar. My fourth account is very large and always has work and is a totally different type of hospital, but I like the work and the packet the QA people sent me is very informative and easy to find what you need. However ...

So Is QA Handling Multiple Accounts Also?
Nov 24, 2013

They darn sure are all over the map as well. This BOSS speaks to the problem we are all complaining about, multiple accounts cause multiple problems. If you actually sat down and DID your job, you could better track and send out work. There are ways, it takes time, and it takes extreme patience, and most of all it takes the loss of you TAT bonus for maybe a couple of months until you get it right. If you truly care, quality would come first. And QA, please stop the BS corrections, I ...

Multiple Accounts & Equipment Issues
Oct 08, 2010

Hi all, wondering if anyone transcribing from home has more than 1 account & therefore more than 1 computer? I have 1 monitor, keyboard/mouse & foot pedal that I would like to use for both computers & am wondering if there is a magic "switch box" or other device I could use so I don't have to buy additional equipment?  Anyone have any other ideas on how to set this up? ...

Keeping Track Of Multiple Accounts/jobs
May 18, 2010

I recently quit my hospital MT job and started working for a mid sized MTSO. This was a big change for me, different platforms, different rules, different type of accounts. I have 4 accounts with this job, all with their own little rules and formats and things. On top of that I recently was hired and quit with another large MTSO for weekend work (didn't like the QA or managers; I was constantly being forgotten). Anyway, I quit them after 2 weeks and was just hired as an IC for small MTSO an ...

Multiple Emails

Multiple Companies On This Account - Need To Know...
Jul 26, 2011

We are all wondering what is going on.  There are 3-4 companies doing this account.  Is one going to finally end up with it or is the account so huge that we are all going to do it...is the question.  If you are on it, you probably know what I am talking about (Companies including Keystrokes, Medquist, Keys, Healthscribe, eMTS). I hope this is not a ban-able question - just wondering if I am going to be out of a job - From where I am, the super says we are getting it - but I see ...

Is The CCS Exam Multiple Choice?
Apr 23, 2012

I was just wondering from anyone who has taken the CCS exam recently, is the whole exam multiple choice?  I ask because I am taking the Andrews course and using the AHIMA-published workbooks and they are all multiple choice.  I use a different skill set when doing these questions, work my way backward with deductive reasoning, reading the question and looking up each answer, eliminating the wrong ones.  This seems faster to me and I want to work as fast as I can on the test.  ...

Curious About Having Multiple Jobs
Aug 28, 2012

Would anyone be willing to weigh in on how many MT jobs they currently have? The couple of MTs I know said they all work for a couple of different MT companies so they have plenty of work, but I also heard someone say they work for 3 at once. I'm not sure I could handle 3 at a time but it sounds like it's smart to have 2 so you always have a backup. Thanks to any responders ...

Do Multiple Typos Drive You Crazy And When Does It Stop Being A Typo
Feb 28, 2010

Just want to vent a little about how lazy I think people over the age of 18 have gotten regarding proper grammar and spelling.  I am not just talking about typos.  I know on MTStars we are not supposed to point out typos, but I was just struck with the question:  When does it stop being a typo and start being laziness and sloppiness, or maybe even uneducated?  I just received an Email from my 19-year-old granddaughter that was full of those abbreviations that everyone uses w ...
