Pell Grant question (hopefully this is the right board) - PennyLane

I recently applied for a Pell Grant through FAFSA, and I had to pick a college from their scroll down list, so I picked the closest community college listed as none of the online courses in which I was interested were listed as choices (unless I missed something). The preliminary report said it appeared I would qualify for both a Pell Grant of $2300 and possibly another grant that was about $9500.

Two days later I received an email saying I was my application had been processed and the information sent to my chosen school and they would be in touch with me.

Well, that's all fine and good, but I really don't want to go to the local city college and the degree is just as valid if obtained through online courses and classroom courses.

I've heard many a mention of Pell Grants on these boards and those MTs that have gotten them, so my question is, do you contact (in my case) the city college and request the funds be sent to you direclty so that you, in turn, can apply the funds to your online school of choice, or are you "stuck" with the college you must select on the application form? I realize with the holiday season no one is moving quickly int he administrative portion of colleges, but I haven't heard a peep out of the city college nor from FAFSA.

For those who have successfully applied for and received Pell Grants for online courses, can you let me know what my next step is or if I should just wait for the city college to contact me and ask them to release the monies to me directly?

you can go back to FASFA form and change your school choice and they will then change who they are sending your funds to but I do not believe there is any way to get the funds sent to you. If your school is not on their list maybe you could contact them by phone to see what they could do to help you.

Although I went to a "brick and mortar" college, I know that some online colleges accept Pell grants.

Each school that accepts a Pell grant has a unique identifier number. You need to go to your chosen online school's website and scour it to see if you can find the school number. If it is not on the website, you need to contact that school and talk to someone in registration to get that number. You can then, as the other poster suggested, go back into FASFA and change your school choice using that number. The funds will be sent to the school to apply toward your tuition and other costs. Any remaining portion will be sent to you from the school, usually after the halfway point in the semester. Pell grants are never wholely released to the student as they are meant to cover school expenses first. Hope this helps.

The answer is no. In order to receive a Pell Grant, it has to be with a school FAFSA approves to receive the funds. Most of the online courses or matchbook schools have payment plans interest free that allow you to afford the tuition without needing financial aid. If the tuition is a substantial amount that they need up front, then either they should qualify for FAFSA or I'd run fast. They NEVER send the funds to you to apply towards schooling...It HAS to be a school in their list or a school that says they accept FAFSA funding and in that case you would need their identifying number if not in the list.

They will not automatically send any funds to any school where you have not officially registered for classes and gone through that schoool's financial aid office. Like the other poster said, you need to contact the school you plan to attend (online or otherwise) and go through them to get your funds. Good luck!

You have to go back to FAFSA and put in your school of your choice. You can put in more than one school. They won't send you grant money. The only way you can get any cash sent to you is if you apply for student loans. You will also have to apply to the school you wish to go to. After you have been accepted then they will disburse your grant money to the school.

It is so very frustrating! I type for a wound care clinic, and, of course, a great deal of the patients there are diabetic, as am I. You see it periodically, OB, radiology, and something else but it's pretty clear the work will be OB. The test consists of 3 files (getting this from the ad) and you should finish it in less than 2 hours. 3 files? How long are the files? So, my real question is (the other two were thiinking out loud), does this ad get run periodically to clear out the backlog or is it really a legit job and why does it come up so often? I tried the swap yesterday. I put in to give up my shift on Friday, 4-9 as doing the Relay for Life walk that evening. It appeared to take as I had RECLAIM next to my shift instead of SWAP but when I went in today, it said SWAP again. It looked the same as it did before I put in to swap.
