for a psychiatrist as a scribe from home. He has also asked me to make reminder calls to patients for their appts the following day. I use my land line to make the calls which is not blocked and is listed in the phonebook. If the patient does not answer the phone I am to leave a message saying only "this message is for XXX, please call XXX at 123-4567 (his receptionist at the office)...as HIPAA forbids giving out any other information. Rather than listening to the message I leave, a lot of the patients just call my private home. I don't get paid for this as it's about a 60-second call each time, if that. Half the time I'm not even sure if it's one of his patients calling or someone else so I go ahead and answer the phone. Does anyone else find this a bit annoying/leary as these are psychiatric patients, mind you, or is this just the name of the game and I should just chill and be grateful I'm getting in an extra 30 minutes a day pay (a whopping $5) making the calls??? I'm probably more leary than needed, but you just never know what could happen.
