getting out of MT altogether and going to work at Mickey Ds. It has been the BEST thing I have done in years. I get PTO, 401K, shown appreciation for my work (get told all the time good job) and just plain feel great about getting out of the house!!!

I remember you and congratulated you for getting out of MT. Kind of sad that one does better at McD's than at MT, but it's what it has become.

Do you mind if I ask how old you are? Just asking because I'm 59, and I'm not sure my body could take being on my feet for long periods of time.

And do you have "bad" hours? By that I mean having to work evenings/nights and weekends. I wouldn't mind working one weekend day, but I can't see working 2, and I definitely do not want to work past 6 p.m. How does that work?

working what schedule best suits you. There are people older than me (and you:)) there and they work out great. They find what work you can do and make it work. I kinda stuttered around when I found out this particular store is 24 hours, but I told him I could work anywhere from 5a-7p and they work around it. They definitely do what fits you and, my first day, they had me get on a ladder. The manager saw me having problems, came over and assured me it was absolutely fine I could not do it. Another manager said no prob, he couldn't do ladders either. Believe me, this particular store (and probably most others) shows you how much they appreciate you all the time. I say go for it!! I seriously doubt you would regret it! Best wishes to you!

I have a McD's about 2 miles from my house. I just may check that out.

I think I'm going to go for it. I had quit MT completely a couple of years back, and tried a couple of office jobs that just didn't work out---so maybe it's time for me to think out of the office box. I would seriously have to resist eating too many Big Macs, though--and fries.

Yeah, I was wondering how that works. I try not to eat too much junk food, but I have to say that it is a treat when I do!

I just applied via their website. I had to take what looked like one of those personality/psychometric tests. I hate those. They seem like trick questions to me. Did you have to take one of those?

I also applied to BK--there's one very close to home, as close as McD's. That was much easier, because you could just upload your resume---McD's you had to manually type your work history. And BK had no personality test thing.

and was told to apply online. I told the guy I already had....twice! So they let me talk to someone then and the rest, as they say, is history:) I do not remember any test, but I did do that for WM.

I say this because I have panic disorder and my first day on the counter I had a bad attack, but I got through it and am SO glad I kept trying. As their slogan is, I'm loving it! lol

I sure wish I knew how to get out of this field. Everyone says just go get a minimum wage job...hah! I think I have too much competition here cause I applied at Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Safeway, Costco, Trader Joe's to name a few and got nada. Is Mickey D's easier??? Good grief, its depressing. Costco and Trader Joe's start at $11 an hour so that might be why for them, but everybody else???? And I worked retail over 30 years ago. I'm 54, any suggestions?

With minimum wage going up, just about all jobs will start at $11 an hr. - sm

In my state, it will be over $11 starting January 2015. My daughter is a general manager at a restaurant and she bring home over $900 every 2 weeks. I wanted her to go back to school, but if she's happy, getting annual raises (which will also be a new law in our state) then I will leave her be to do her thing. She's doing better than I am right now.

This new law is going to put companies under, so she might do well to prepare for something else by learning a trade (besides MT of course!) or going to night college or something.

..everyone has always said it will put companies under, but it doesn't. People making a better wage spend more money which helps these companies. At least most studies support this.

I thought this was a really cute and interesting way to raise money for breast cancer awareness. Is this really true? I was already on the fence about it....I despise ADHI but at the same time realize having CMT could possibly help find a job and sometimes (rarely) get a CMT diff. Not to mention the test cost $300 whether you pass or not. So now you have to pay to pass the RMT? This can't be true. I mean, if you can pass the CMT you should be able to pass the RMT w/o having to PAY for it. ...
