New MT needs practice test for all specialties - Lucy

I am planning to take an MT test at the libary. Never done it online before, or MT. Anyone want to help me know things I need up front, like what are good sources for using during test and just transcription? I don't even know what questions to ask. I've done MT before quite a bit but on analogue machine. I have medical terminology in chiropractic, mental health, neurology, and on a trial basis (the hospital). Should I order an overall practice book for all specialties and hospitals? Thanks, Lucy

Run the other direction. You are making a big mistake getting into MT at this stage in the game. If you are young enough, go to school and learn something else. Even if you are not young, do it. I am working on getting out of MT altogether.

I second that emotion! - Also trying to escape from MT.

I have 2 jobs now, 6 accounts, and both are nearly perpetually in no job status, so I have to work a little every day a week to make ends meet. I feel like the poor polar bears whose ice caps are melting, just keep swimming and swimming and swimming, never finding enough seals to eat and finally going extinct!

How can you do it at the library? Are you using a computer there, or your own? You woul have to plug in a foot pedal somehow and get that all arranged.

BUT, My first opinion like the other poster, is DON'T DO IT!!!!!! No Jobs, No Money, No Mind Left after working all day, or sittin all day waiting for work which I just did at my new job I started Sunday, because I was promised there would be tons of work. Yeh, right!! Get out now, start over somewhere else if you need to, BUT THIS IS NOT IT. I am thinking of working for the local Pamida store in stocking shelves. At least it would be a paycheck of some kind. The nearest hospital to me that has any MT working at all is about 300 miles so that is not an option to go out to work.

I would like to hear from current Transcription Doctors transcriptionists regarding the practice of penalizing them if they do not meet the required production rate, and also do they do the same if your QA percentage rate goes lower than what they require? I will use just one report I did today to illustrate. Template loaded for DS. Report was half a minute long. I am required to delete any unused headings. It was recently suggested to me that I get Dragon Medical practice Edition, Version 2 for use on transcription, coding, billing and editing. As someone who works from home, I am hoping to investigate the pros and cons of investing in this program and whether its worth it ($1,399.00!!)
