I haven't been on this board in many years since I stopped working from home. I just logged on for the first time this week after a long absence, and it really has changed.

It used to be that the regular posters used consistent nicknames for all their posts. That was nice because you got to know who was who, who was good for word help, etc. Now it seems almost no one at all uses a nickname and not only is it less personal but it contributes to the confusion in long threads. Nobody knows who is responding to whom, and there are a lot of "I wasn't talking to you!" comments.

Some of the old pages are gone, too....no more Pandora's Box. That was a real comunity at one time, sorry to see it go. Pandora, JaniceB, Talon, and others were very popular posters...anyone on here remember them?

I hope the MTs I used to chat with for many years have moved on to greater things.

You mentioned you stopped working from home. Did you also get out of MT? If so, what are you doing now? So many of us want out of this field because of the pay cuts and QA abuse, but we're at a loss as to finding a new field. Any advise from the "outside world?" TYIA.

Finished my master's in writing. While working on that I switched from an at-home position with a national to an in-house position with a local cardiologist. I do that part-time and also do freelance writing. My in-house position is stable and I can pursue the writing projects on my days off.

...sooo confusing within a thread when several people just use anon or sm or things like that. We don't know if it's the same anon or another anon, sm, whatever. I can understand not using the same thing every time, but anon and sm are getting waaaay too old.

I don't remember a Pandora's box, either, and I've been on here almost since its inception. But, having worked for MQ, I was mostly only on that board, so I guess I wouldn't remember anyway.

If you search on "medical transcription" and "Pandora's box" with the quotes, you will probably find it. I did. It wasn't hard.

Has anyone gotten any raises in pay over the past 3 years? I work in-house, got the news a week ago that the hospital has hired an outside company to take over the transcription, which will save the hospital millions of dollars. We have the option of going with the other company or simply going home; in other words, take it or leave it. Thought that after not having enough work for a couple years now and always chasing work, I'd now have a "real job" as an employee and wouldn't have to worry about a steady paycheck and paying the bills anymore. There is much speculation about the field of transcription - how many of us actually plan to be here 5 years, 10 years, 20 years from now. I realize that the field is going to change, which will contribute to your answer. Will there be enough transcriptionists/editors to fill the need in 5 years and in 10 years? All headers are now no longer counted in the line count. We're already out of work most of the time and now this. We don't get paid for cc's that we add or all the info on the pt before we ever start typing. I'd say when we do have work they're getting a lot of free work from us. ...

I have to reinstall the MTStars Flashcounter program, but I am not able to do it. I get a dialog box "Setup Initialization Error" that states "Setup has encountered an error in Registration Database". Does anybody know what this means? I have never had a problem reinstalling the program before. I do get a shortcut icon on my desktop PC that says "Demo has expired"..what does this mean? Any help would be appreciated. I realize that this is no longer being supported but was wondering if anyone might be able to help me. I have Windows 8 and Office 2003 and so far this program is the only one that is even working for me to get a line count (tried most of those found when searching in Google). It worked for me the first few times but now I am only able to say it in a .txt file which at least populates everything into a list but doesn't add it up so I have to do that by hand. I've talked with several MTs recently who work for different companies. The companies have to send out reminders to the MTs that they are supposed to be at work at specific times. They also are having trouble with MTs just taking off without arranging for coverage of their accounts. The list goes on and on. What bothers me most though is the attitude of workers.
