perform document scanning and indexing for all the hospital documents, correspondence and faxed documents they receive. We share office space with another practice. The other practice is a completely seperate entity with seperate payroll. However, we share a phone line and as a courtesy I do answer most of the other practices calls, schedule their appts, and because I set at the front window, I check in all of our patients and their patiens, mostly because the girl employed by the other doctor is basically a slacker. Recently, the doctor I work for sold out to the local hospital. The hospital administration has told me that I should continue answering calls and checking in patients, but that is all they want me to do for the other practice. No scanning or filing or anything else.
Now the slacker has started to whine because she is way behind on their scanning. We are talking 1000 or more documents sitting on her desk that need to be sorted and scanned. She's behind because she talks too much, is never at her desk, and basically has poor time management skills. I manage to man the front desk, transcribe the daily office notes, and maintain our scanning all in 8 hours. Long story short, the slacker has started whining daily to her doctor about the scanning. Historically, when she whines to her doctor, her doctor then whines to administrators at the hospital and administrators then ask me to do something for the slacker and they tell me not to worry, that things will change drastically soon, i.e. they are forcing the doctor to either sell out to the hospital or to move to a vacant hospital in the building next door. So I know that eventually I am going to be asked to help with their scanning.
So I am preparing for the to happen and I have decided to research the standard per page rate for scanning and indexing so that I can suggest that the other doctor pay me for my services so that I'm not working for free. So does anyone have any idea what the going rate for scanning and indexing documents is? So far I am seeing 4 to 5 cents per page.
Thanks!
