How many of you put up a Do Not Distrub sign on your door? - clobo

Posted: Oct 04, 2010

I am really tired of always being interrupted during the day by people so I made me a sign stating I am working and to please do not disturb.  How many of you have done this and does it help keep people from bothering you?

sorry for the typo.....nm - clobo

I just don't answer the door or the phone. - Fingers

My family and most everyone I know already knows I am working. If I don't answer the phone, they leave a message. I do have people that I do not know come to the door occasionally. I just do not answer the door and they go away.

Have you been doing MT very long? I have been doing it long enough that it is not a problem anymore. If I am ever caught off-guard, I simply say I am working and have strict deadlines while I am actually walking away. Same goes for the phone. It is my phone and I have no hesitation about saying, "Sorry I am working and I can not take this call," click.... I don't even wait for a response.

The phone was my problem and like the other post, I have been at this a long time. I also have to stay off my PC regarding e-mails. Sometimes I think I need a distraction, because I get kind of numb sitting there, but again like the other post, I let the phone calls go to voice mail, only do the e-mails when I am not working. The more time I waste doing things besides work, the longer I have to work. Figured that one out w/o too much brain damage, so I just sit and work and then I am done and I AM FREE! Some days are better than others, remember that.

I made a small wooden stoplight with 3 round discs that I keep on the wall by my work station at home. When the green disc is showing, the kids can bother me for whatever. When the yellow is showing, it had better be a good reason to bug me. When the red is showing, the person had better be bleeding or dying! My kids and hubby seen to like the sign, and follow it pretty well.

I have a different problem maybe you all have some suggestions. My granddaughter gets on an off the bus here. Morning is not a problem. I started a new job and my hours are 1-3:30 and 6-10. This is only my second week. I took a break so I could help GD with homework etc. She is 6. however, I am finding that I just can't make a decent line count. I only work 32 hours Sunday-Thursday, but that is not enough. Anybody have any suggestions. There are no earlier hours. Thanks for the help.

I thought about it, but... - sm

I didn't put up a sign because I didn't really want strangers knowing I worked at home. For the most part, I just don't answer the door. On occasion, I've answered the door and told the religious proselytizers and salespersons that I'm busy. The package delivery people know me well enough now that they just leave packages at the door.

One Foot Out The Door...
Jun 06, 2014

I have landed a part time job (going full time soon) at a Pain Clinic - doing transcription - starting pay $17.  My 35 years experience with radiology helped me get this position.   So much better than the measly 11 I get from here.  This clinic had outsourced and the reports were horrible so they have hired back for inhouse.  There are just 2 of us.  I can get my self esteem back that this place has sucked out of me.  There is hope.... ...

Some Seem To Think MQ Door Is KEEPING Them From Family Time, Decent
Oct 26, 2010

that door as an entry way to better things. Go through it to another job, one that fits you and your family better.  They are out there but it is not fun or easy to find them.  Some, it seems, would rather stay put and whine rather than go after what they want and deserve.  If it is worth having, be it a better job, better life, whatever, it is not gonna be handed to you and if it is worth it to you, it is worth working for. ...

Advice Needed On Coding Career And Getting My Foot In The Door

So, I've been an MT for 8 years.  Previously, I did medical billing.  I am so burnt out from doing MT and having a dead-end job that I am working towards my AA degree in Health Information Management, then want to get my bachelor's, then would like to go to graduate school for Health Care Administration.  Anyway, if want to become a coder, as I am working my way up the HIM ladder, would it be wise for me to take a job in medical billing first?   I don't ha ...

Is This A Sign?
Oct 15, 2010

The other evening at the grocery store, I picked up the newest issue of Employment Guide. You've probably seen it - it's usually by the doors to the store, and it's a nationwide publication. It used to list actual job openings for the local area. Now, though, it seems to be mainly an ad newspaper for schools offering career training. Anyway, what struck me about this issue is that none of the schools that have always advertised in this paper list medical transc ...
